41  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Cat barrettes on: September 15, 2009 09:29:14 PM
I may have gone full cat lady with these but they were really fun to make. They are etched copper barrettes.  The first is similar to a japanese wood cut and the other is a Japanese Cat Collage.

I like the cat in the bag.
42  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / I saw a Totoro on: September 09, 2009 09:51:51 AM
So I made some shrinky dinks. They were a pain to cut out. I think I need new scissors.  I have been on a My Neighbor Totoro kick lately.  So I wanted to make Totoro earrings. I baked them but broke the hoop sanding them so now they are magnets. The rest are still earrings.  There is a Gila monsters, Rosy finchs, Archaeopteryx fossils, and a cat and the moon.

43  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Copper pendants on: August 24, 2009 02:52:34 PM
I made these pretties this weekend. After much practice I have finally got results I like with the pendants. Do the findings and need more zazz? I don't know what to do with them after I make the pendant. I can not braid hemp any more I makes my hands ache. I have tried vinyl bead cord with these. Comments and criticism welcome. Thank you for looking

44  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Earring weight on: August 19, 2009 01:03:25 PM
I have searched craftster and not found any answers. So I am posting here. I want to make some earrings but I don't want to make them to heavy. How heavy should earrings be? Or were could I find this information. I googled it and all I could find was don't wear heavy earrings. I want to make them for other people so I don't personally know what is generally to heavy. I like big danglely earrings so I will wear what is probably a bit to heavy.

All input is appreciated.
45  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Copper pendants on: July 14, 2009 07:00:53 PM

Oh my

It seems like I have not posted in months. I have been in swap limbo.  I was waiting to post these until my partern received hers. I try to learn something new for each swap I do. I wanted to get into metal jewelry but was scared but after some encouragement and advice from Bionic Dingo I used the Celtic arm band: Photo-Etching Tutorial by I Eat Art ( Thank you both) and made these guys.

So you can tell  I am pro frogs, this guy is the symbol for the Amphibian Ark.

I am also a big fan of Horn-lizards. This pendant is also oxidized.

This is a mistake that I love it looks like an old weathered image of horses.

This I made for my Venture Bros. SWAP this front is Hank and Dean.

The back is Hank and Dean clone sluggs.

Thanks for looking.

46  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Metal smithing questions on: May 05, 2009 09:11:56 PM
So the other day I decided to learn metal smithing. Crazy? yes. But I was welding when I was 13 so maybe I can solder. Someone is going to show me how to solder. I have read The Complete Metalsmith: An Illustrated Handbook by Tim McCreight which is a good read for several reasons. So what else should I know? Is metal smithing do able? I am a way out of my league? Just wanting to talk to people who do this stuff.

Comets

I am on an invertebrate kick lately

I love these and wear them all the time

These are just experiments with findings

48  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / why don't we own book marks? on: March 16, 2009 10:02:56 PM
Last night I wondered "Why don't we own book marks?" They are pretty easy things to make and cheap to buy. I longed for the days of book fairs at school.  So I made us some on the computer.  I was proud of them so I decided to post them but just clicking print does not make it a paper craft. I like the collage effect of them together I figured it is more graphic design then anything. So I put it here, if it does not belong let me know and I will remove it.

Butterflies and their larval host plants

"Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, but set a man of fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life" ~ Terry Pratchet

I don't know why I went with a fetus for life but it a cute fetus Undecided

"If that unspeakably glorious spectacle is ornithology, then I am an ornithologist." ~ Patrick O'Brian
For the ornithologist of the household, sand grouse of course

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth!" ~ Patrick O'Brian
Because what is for fun than a drunken sloth

"He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it."~ Douglas Adams
Check out the cup. This is my favorite
49  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / abstract earrings on: March 13, 2009 10:17:10 AM
Here are some earrings I made to show a potential client. I was showing diffrent styles and findings. This is my first attempt at wire wrapping and selling things I make.

I am happy with the way these turned out.

These are just playing around. They have dust on them from taking pictures outside. Macro setting, you show all my flaws.

50  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Jelly fish necklace and braclet on: March 10, 2009 09:21:41 PM

So I finished these this weekend.  I took pictures in my yard, I did not notice the rock dust on them until I downloaded them but I am to lazy to take more.  Macroshots are not forgiving. I can see my finger prints, I guess I should have sanded and bluffed. They don't match but both are cool jellyfish, jewelry.  Jellyfish are very forgiving for you first try, the more distorted they are the more real they look. They are made out of polymerclay.

I hand rolled all the filler black beads, i like the mate look but I am not doing it again. It's not that much fun. I like my crafts to be more fun than work.

The bracelet has metallic blue acrylic paint antiquing, with image transfers on it.  Why not antique with blue?  Grin I like the coral pieces I made to join it together. I got carried away with them and now the bracelet it to big for my tiny wrist. Smiley Thanks for looking and critiques welcome.
