21  Red Panda in CHALLENGE 68 ENTRIES by Bakeneko on: October 31, 2011 06:15:12 PM
Red Panda

This year Mr. Bakeneko and I were Red Pandas for Halloween. Unfortunately my camera will not download so I only have Mr. Bakeneko’s photos, which do not include him.  We went to the pumpkin enrichment at the Potter Park Zoo.
I am particularly proud of the mask, although they are not a bespectacled girl’s friend.

No matter how early your start a costume, you will always in up sewing part of it on the way there.  I had to attack the mask ties in the car.  The mask are made of fleece, felt, fake fur, heavy dutry interfacing and glue lots of glue.  They are tied with elastic or twill tape.  The tails are basically pouches with a belt loop. They are made of fleeces. You can see that colors are off but it’s a close are JoAnn’s get to Red Panda red.

22  Re: Mug Rug Swap R2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Bakeneko on: October 19, 2011 08:21:25 PM
I received my mug rug today from fiddlegirl8.
I was dazzled when I opened my package a vibrant kaleidoscope of ponies was inside.

I have always wanted some Laurel Burch art (the horses are the best).  I have never seen it as fabric for purchase. I love the stitching detail around each horse and the perfect binding.  These are perfect for me.

It a raining, cold, dark day here prefect for mug rugging it up, but I can’t bear to put a cup on them because they are too pretty. This winter when the snow is pile high and the only light is gray I am going to use these to ward of the blues.  Thank you very much fiddlegirl8 these are beyond cool Cool

23  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap for July 2011 in The Swap Gallery by Bakeneko on: August 01, 2011 02:50:51 PM
It is generally referred to as cloacal breathing.  Turtles don't have an anus, technically it is a cloacae. Just thought I would supply some turtle butt facts Smiley

Wow, what excellent ATCs! I love the chicken at the beach.
Here's an ATC that gozer made for my "Random Fact" theme:

Did you know that?
I believe the term is "anal breathing/anal gasping" - when I took marine bio, we learned that sea cucumbers do it too.
Thanks gozer!

Slovakiasteph Thanks for the hat! I got to wear it today. Thanks for the silver lining to the fact that it is snowing in April.

The large is an etched copper necklace of a turtle. I have no idea how you would even do that! It's really cool.

In a bucket of acid in my basement like a creeper.  I am glad you liked everything. I was working down to the last minute on the necklace I needed it to get warm enough for the acid to etch.  It was fun crafting for you but my husband wanted to know why it was all dead trees.  Smiley

I received from Slovakiasteph Thursday but have not been able to upload pictures to craftster. I used foxfire and it worked today so here is the awesomeness.

A pillow that matches my cat

A sweet hat to wear in the cold

I have totally been wearing this around the house
Totoro spoon rest and Jelly fish pal.

The inside of the sweet panda bag. It is totally going with me to the Humane Society’s Furball tonight.

And the back

Thanks so much Slovakiasteph you are such a good secret swap partner!

27  Light a Finch for me. in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Bakeneko on: February 12, 2011 10:51:28 AM
Light a Finch for me.  The whole Nikki paints glass thing is Tasha’s fault, a former student and friend. I posted on facebook and asked for someone to save me during the super bowl and Tasha said she would pray to Darwin for me. So I replied “Light a Finch for me”.  The next day I wanted to make a finch candle but I don’t have a finch mold just lying around but I do have glass paint. So I whipped out the candle holder before I had to go to work.  Then it just evolved to glasses.  I painted these yesterday. I had to wait until today to take pictures so they could dry. Today is  Darwin’s 202nd Birthday.  So Happy Birthday Darwin, 202, I’ll drink to that.

28  Snails in my garden-Irish Chain in Quilting: Completed Projects by Bakeneko on: November 17, 2010 06:06:05 PM
This is my first quilt. It is your basic Irish chain. I named it “snails in my garden”.  It is hand tied with polyester batting.

It is not perfect by any means and I am sure there are mistakes I don’t even know enough about quilting to see; but I have slept under it for two nights and have had no technical difficulties.  I think it is safe to day it works.  There may be too many pictures for a simple Irish chain but I am quite proud.

30  narwhals narwhals swimming in the ocean in CHALLENGE 56 ENTRIES by Bakeneko on: November 03, 2010 06:25:19 AM

So basically these costumes are pillows shaped like fins and safety pinned to our coats. This is a good costume method if you don’t know how cold it is going to beforehand, and need to travel in it.  The horns are made of rolled card stock cones with muslin glue over it and held on with an elastic and stapled head band.  Cheap and comfortable. We wore them to the zoo for pumpkin enrichment.
