that's awesome!
did you get the calvin image from a pattern, or did you just improv it?
312  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: First Time Making Skinny Jeans on: December 31, 2008 07:41:31 PM
nice job!  i've been thinking about  doing somthing like this... maybe you'll be my inspiration Smiley
313  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: I am a newbie to sewing and i am kind of taking a poll type thing on: December 31, 2008 07:39:57 PM
my first projects were a stuffed pig (class project with a pattern) and a pair of boxers.  I would definatly suggest boxers (making them longer into pants wouldn't be much harder) because they are simple enough, still have some skills that you learn, and you can make cozy pjs and lounging clothes Smiley

good luck, and keep us posted!

317  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: clothing-make-along - a new year's resolution on: December 28, 2008 02:44:17 PM
january - hats - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=286177.0

okay, so here's the plan Smiley
each month i will start a new topic for whatever the project of the month is, so that people who are looking to make, say scarves, will be able to find our scarves without going through 11 other projects.  Links to previous projects will be in each new topic.

as discussed, everyone will be working on the same sort of project, but will choose one that challenges their own level of expertise - each project must teach you something, or force you to grow as a crafty person!

here are the ideas for topics i had - there are more than 12, so if people can PM (private message) me with what they would like/would not like to do, i will make the final list of 12 reflect what we want.

undergarments - undies, boxer shorts, corset
jewelery item
skirt (boys - maybe a kilt Tongue )
hat - touque, top hat
bag - clutch, purse, luggage
costume (october)

on the 31st i'll post what our first project will be, and i appologize in advance for the short notice!
318  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: DeStash-Along 2009 on: December 26, 2008 01:31:44 AM
i'm totally in!
i'm doing an apparel based craftalong this year (item per month) as well, but this sounds like a good idea!

a quick question though - a lot of my "stash" is stuff that i mean to upcycle, modify, etc.  it's often not actual craft supplies, in the conventional sense (some of it is though, of course).  I'm wondering if that's okay?
319  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: large bow belt on: December 26, 2008 01:18:14 AM
i love this!  i think i might give it a go in knitting form!
320  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need help, please. on: December 26, 2008 01:15:50 AM
try searching on youtube or other video websites, if you are a visual learner.
i find them very useful, because i can pause, repeat the video, and often find one person who has put up a few good ones, once i find an inital gem.
i'd go try and find one now, but the computer i am on has no sound Sad
just try "how to knit" in the search engine, watch a couple, and see what works with your learning style!

good luck, and keep us posted with your progress!

oh, and before i forget, don't be worried if it takes a while, or if your first project (or first few) aren't what you were hoping for - my first few turned into washcloths, where perfection doesn't matter Tongue !  Knitting is a series of patterns, and it can take some time to learn the patterns, and to understand what the piece is telling you when there is a mistake.

have fun!
