1  Re: Butterfly swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by BrooklynMermaid on: July 31, 2010 12:28:45 PM
I received my package today!!! IT'S BEAUTIFUL!  I'll be posting my pictures in a little while once I get them all uploaded!  PICTURES!
The whole thing:

Close up of one of my red, white, and blue American University butterflies: ( Grin)

The other one:

And my favorite butterfly, a purple and green one!  (Two of my favorite colors!)

The text says: Yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery.  Today is a gift, that's why we call it the present.

This is so beautiful, I can't imagine how much work went into it!  I've already changed my entire dorm decorating plan to center around how gorgeous this is!

I'm sorry the pictures are so bad, Craftster wouldn't take my camera's photos, only my phone's.

Thanks bmd1011!

2  Rainbow Cupcakes! in Dessert by BrooklynMermaid on: June 15, 2010 05:15:37 AM
I discovered a way to make cupcakes rainbow inside a few months ago (which I'm sure you all already knew) and I made them for my GSA.  Everyone loved them and I was only able to get one picture of the inside of one before they were all eaten up.  They were chocolate frosted and put in plain cups so no one knew until they bit in.  Anyway, on to the one, crappy, cell phone picture!

This wasn't the best one cause I ran out of blue so I had to make blue out of green and purple which ate up my green and purple supplies.  Lesson learned: Next time use two boxes of cake mix!

4  Altered Altoids Tin --> Treasure Box! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BrooklynMermaid on: June 13, 2010 09:14:57 AM
I had this old Altoids tin that I'd altered when I was about 5 with white paper and markers.  It was cute, but not very usable since I'll be going to college in the fall.  So I re-altered it.  I used black cardstock, some rhinestones, hot glue, glitter hot glue, and a random charm I found.

My name starts with a J and so does my boyfriend's, so I put two Js since it held a necklace he gave me and a pair of earrings with two intertwined hearts.  (Along with lots of hair beads....)

5  Floral Wristlet & Sewing Pouch! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BrooklynMermaid on: June 13, 2010 09:08:54 AM
So, I needed a pouch to carry my needles, thread, pin cushion, etc when I take them with me somewhere, so I whipped up this quick drawstring pouch.  Then I fell in love with doing drawstring pouches, so I made a wristlet one and it made me happy too!

Sewing Pouch:

Wristlet:

To fit inside it I made some money holders and posted them here:

6  Money Holders! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BrooklynMermaid on: June 13, 2010 08:56:49 AM
My wallet won't fit inside my little wristlet since the wallet's actually bigger, so I figured I needed a couple of new things to hold money in when I use the wristlet rather than just throwing it in there.  So I pulled out an old drawing book I never use and glued these guys together:

7  Re: Sea Life Swap Round 2 SLS R2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by BrooklynMermaid on: June 05, 2010 05:00:42 PM
I received confirmation that Suzuka got my package!  I really hope she likes it.  TheSapphireMoon asked me to post pictures so here we go
First, a squid of some sort.  It's made of an old rainbow scarf that I've made several other things from as well.

Second, I made a bag.  It's a blue gradient type fabric with white flowers and it reminded me of the sea.  I sewed the handles on wrong and I hope they're not too short.  They're a dark blue semi-mesh like fabric with turquoise zigzags in the middle.  The turquoise thread is actually antique thread from my bisnonna (great grandmother) who was a seamstress.  The thread is almost a hundred years old.
I appliqued a whale zig zagged with the same thread.  I used fabric paint to add an eye and a mouth and bubbles, then realized that whales don't give off bubbles....well at least it's cute!

I also included a necklace with a hematite dolphin pendant and two shell beads, but I didn't get a picture of that Sad

Last but not least I sent an extra, a wooden turtle charm I got as a free gift when I bought some beads several months ago.  You can see it in this picture:

8  Re: Sea Life Swap Round 2 SLS R2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by BrooklynMermaid on: May 20, 2010 01:48:52 PM
I received my package from Veri today, which was motivation enough to get my sick self up and dressed and off to the post office to send my package!  I even brought my new whale with me!

I got a whale!!  I'm so happy with him!  I decided it was a him because for some reason almost all of my stuffies are male.

With me

With a whale I made myself a while ago.  Veri's whale looks so much better.  I'm glad Large Whale (the one I made) has a new pal in New Whale (the one Veri made).  I'm not terribly creative with names am I?

Even the packaging was amazing, although unfortunately it was damaged when it got to me Sad but it was so beautiful!  My boyfriend greatly enjoyed correcting my pronunciation of Slovenia.  I pronounce it like it's pronounced in Italian cause my mom does cause her mom did cause her mom was from Italy.  It provided him hours of fun.

Now I'm super excited for Suzuka to recieve!!!

9  A whole new outfit! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BrooklynMermaid on: May 11, 2010 07:54:15 PM
I made an apron today, which I'm so proud of, cause when I cook or bake I get ingredients all over me which is so unnattractive.  So I pulled out an old curtain that smells comfortingly like grandmothers and old houses.  I cut it off at about a foot and a half and used the whole width, then made ties from two strips.  I added pockets also made from the fabric and re-placed the lace from halfway down to the top on one but not on the other.  On to the pictures!

The shirt/skirt was the bottom of a drop waist dress that I cut the neck and arms off of and turned over.  I sewed three smiley-face buttons on too.  When worn as a top the buttons go in the center, when worn as a skirt they go on the side.
The jeans I refitted from flares.
I'm so proud of it all!

Blurry action shot!

For the pattern:

You can also see one pocket here.  The one with the lace moved to the top Smiley

10  Old Pants --> New pillow! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by BrooklynMermaid on: April 25, 2010 01:11:37 PM
I had old PJ Pants with fish and words like Groovy, Fabulous, & Cool all over.  So I didn't wanna wear them anymore so I cut it up and sewed it and stuffed it!  I also added some Route 66 imitation-vintage buttons I had lying around for fun.

Whole thing:
