1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / self-striping worsted weight yarn... I cannot remember the name of it! on: November 20, 2005 08:32:43 AM
Does anyone know the brand that makes self-striping worsted weight yarn? I seem to be suffering from pre-holiday related memory loss! Thanks.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone know how to knit a "shawl collar" or have a pattern for one?? on: November 08, 2005 06:25:24 PM
I'd love to make this sweater but am not sure about the "shawl collar" construction. Would I just cast on and increase gradually at the edges?? Do I increase in the middle (of the back) AND the edges or do I just knit up and up..??

Any ideas, hints, or pattern leads close to the picture below would be appreciated. Greatly.

The sweater is from Anthropologie's newest catalog.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / For those of you who've knit lace scarves.... on: September 22, 2005 05:14:17 PM
does it bother you that there's a wrong side and a right side? Does it look weird when the scarf is worn (vs. lying flat on a surface?)...??

Has anyone found a lace pattern that is reversible?
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / I have one skein of koigu... on: August 23, 2005 10:14:16 PM
any ideas about how to use it??

Thanks!
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / anti-pastel baby hat on: March 23, 2005 05:58:25 PM
I wanted to make something to match a pair of black and white and orange booties for a new baby boy. Here's what I came up with (if anyone wants the pattern, let me know and i'll be happy to type it up):

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / my first intarsia attempt: a sweater from Zoe Mellor's Animal Knits on: March 23, 2005 05:42:21 PM
I let my daughter pick out the sweater she wanted from Zoe Mellor's Animal Knits: 26 Fun Handknits for Children and Toddlers. I did a bit of tweaking in the sizing department (making it narrower and longer than the pattern called for due to daughter's enviable proportions from some recessive, elusive gene that must skip many generations). Also changed colors (black instead of navy, just to be cool or maybe because I didn't trust the navy swatch on my monitor). I used merino yarn from knitpicks and, all in all, I'm really pleased with it.The yarn came out to maybe $22 - $24 and I have SOOO much left over: enough for a felted bag for me and a couple of hats.

The yarn is really soft--my daughter hates wool but not this stuff.

I was so nervous about intarsia--thinking I'd have holes everywhere. Happily I didn't. Weaving in all those ends took hours, though.

7  ASIA / Japan / Can someone fluent in Japanese help fellow craftsters with a translation?? on: February 05, 2005 03:25:04 PM
Many of us are in love with this scarf. We think the directions are for crochet. We'd be soooo happy to be able to read the directions posted here: http://www.puppyarn.co.jp/02school/amz01.html

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knitpicks yarn? on: January 21, 2005 03:08:08 PM
I just received their catalog and the prices are so great, I'm wondering if there's a catch (the catch being that the yarn is horrible, etc.). Has anyone tried their house brand?

9  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / newsboy hat on: January 18, 2005 02:02:28 PM
Here's my first attempt at the newsboy hat. It's adult-sized but my model isn't:

I went the cheap route and used elann wool from my stash. I love it but it's a bit big, next time I'm going to make it a 1 inch smaller around.
