1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Space Race Swap on: August 28, 2011 12:41:15 PM
Calling all budding Space explorers! Come and join the Space Race! Smiley

So the basic idea of this swap is that in each partnership, one partner would be "Russia" with the other one playing "America" in the Space Race. With Send outs on April 12th (points if you can tell me why!) each partnership will craft items based on 3 or more missions that took place on their country's behalf with the aim of each partner being to send out first, gaining a point for their country! At the end of the swap, the points would be tallied and the winning country of the "Space 'Craft' race" announced at the end of the swap. Smiley

Some possible key dates might be;

12 April 1961   First manned spaceflight (Yuri Gagarin)  USSR

7 March 1962   First orbital solar observatory  USA (NASA)

16 June 1963   First woman in space (Valentina Tereshkova)  USSR

21 July 1969   First human on the Moon and first space launch from a celestial body     USA

15 July 1975   First multinational manned mission     USSR   USA (NASA)   Apollo-Soyuz Test Project

So... What'dya think? Sign-ups 12th-24th Feb 2012?

Thanks,

Rebecca.

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Extending Sign-ups? on: July 12, 2011 01:36:34 PM
Hi,

I'm started to feel really stupid; this is my first time organising and my second question here. Wink

Basically, sign ups to my swap are supposed to be ending today but at the moment I only have a couple of swappers despite enormous interest in the beginning. Also, due to the fact my time zone is GMT, I would have to close sign-ups tonight at 7pm EST at the latest, which I think might mean that some people hoping to wait until the last minute may not be able to join. How would I go about extending swap sign-ups? I think I would probably like to give it until the weekend, so just another 4 days or so. Would that be possible?

Thank you,

Rebecca.
4  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 64 ENTRIES / Scrabble Shoes on: July 10, 2011 04:01:35 PM
Hi all!

Nice to see you again. Smiley This is is a whole deal of firsts for me; not only is it my first foray into shoe making, but it's also my first foray into challenges and my first real try and mixing media! I hope you like my entry; I certainly don't expect to win, but I hope you like my idea, anyway!

Here's a little peek;

It was my prom on the 1st July, and as I was unable to make my own dress (due to a crummy back injury) I decided instead to make my own shoes! Well, sorta. Smiley I started out with my favourite pair of heels, which were getting pretty destroyed. They were scuffed and losing colour so I decided to beef them up a bit.

First, because it didn't even occur to me to just polish the shoes, I decided to colour them in with a black fabric marker. I then attached a shorter silver chain and a longer black chain, before attaching 8 scrabble tiles. Smiley They turned out looking like this;

Action Shot on the night!

I really like them, and they were a hit at Prom, but I had to walk around with superglue in my bag, for every time the shoes broke. They hold up pretty well, but I think the chains were a bad idea as it makes them quite easy to break but I still love them. Cheesy

Hope you like them too!

Thanks for reading,

Rebecca.
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Swapper under 16- How to get approval? on: July 04, 2011 01:30:21 PM
Hi,

I'm currently organising the Andrew Lloyd Webber swap and my sister would like to join. She has been a member for about a year, but as never participated in a swap, and is 15 and 3/4s. Is it possible for her to get Swap moderator approval? Or can I let her join anyway because I know she is reliable and she will be 16 in a few months?

Any help/ advice would be great.

Thanks,

Rebecca.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Buffy swap, Round 5? on: May 19, 2011 02:30:30 PM
Hello Scoobies,

I was wondering if anyone would be up for another BTVS swap? The last one was ages ago, and having only just got into Buffy about a year ago, I'm raring to do one. Would anyone be interested at all? I was wondering if sometime over the summer would be nice?

Here are some links to previous galleries, to get you going;

8  COOKING / Dessert / My first forays into Cake decorating on: April 19, 2011 06:18:54 AM
Hello!

I made and decorated these cakes a LONG time ago... And I'm actually missing the pictures for a couple of others I made including a Superman and a Star Trek one for my 15th and my sisters' 14th Birthdays, respectively.

The first is one I made two years ago, for my sixteenth birthday, back when I was an avid Twilight fan. I still like it, only I'm not as obsessed as I used to be. I tried to incorperate aspects from each of the 4 books; the Chessboard for Breaking Dawn, the Ribbon for Eclipse, the Flower for New Moon and the Marzipan Apple for Twilight itself. I actually even stuck an apple sticker from Forks, WA on it, which was from an apple that was handed out at one of the Press screenings I went to.

Plan view:

Apple Detail:

Flower detail:

The flower did actually have icing sugar on it to make it resemble the orchid on the book cover, but that doesn't seem to show up on the pictures...

The Second cake was one I made for my Form Tutor at school, when his birthday co-incided with the day he left. Sad Amazingly, however, the clock was actually made to the exact time he was born! Completely by fluke...

Anyway, thanks for looking! Hope to see you here again soon. Smiley

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / To craft, or not to craft?- Homage to Shakespeare bracelet on: April 19, 2011 06:05:56 AM
Hiya!

I'm (finally) forcing myself to upload some of the stuff I've made to Crafster, because I always forget. Smiley I made this for my friend's birthday in November 2010, using printable Shrink plastic. She's an avid fan of Shakespeare (as am I) so I threw this together.

Please bear in mind that the pictures are hideous My photo-taking skills have since improved. Smiley

Enjoy!

Bracelet in Box I made, which was decorated with Quotes from Othello and Macbeth:

The whole bracelet laid out on a tatty bit of paper:

Half action shot 1:

Half action shot 2:

The Charms included a picture of Shakespeare's head, and the book covers for; All's well that ends well, A midsummer night's dream, Anthony and Cleopatra, Love's labours lost, A Comedy of Errors, Trollius and Cressida, The Tempest and Titus Andronicus. Not actually my favourites, but the prettiest book covers. Smiley

One problem that I think was probably had with this is that I didn't seal it... Which (given the current state of similar bracelets I have made) means that the colours probably ran a lot. Does anyone have any tips for sealing?

Thanks,

Rebecca.
10  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Can you help me find a pattern for a "Fairy Queen" Dress? on: January 17, 2011 12:34:58 PM
Greetings all,

I have been taking part in an English May Queen Pageant from about the age of 3 and this year it's my turn to be Fairy Queen. Great! Except we can't find a pattern.

I've looked through everything;  Burda and Bridal, Simplicity and Special Occ, but I have yet to find 'the dress'.

I'm looking for one with probably a corset top and quite a large 'fwoofy' skirt, to hide my huge hips. I quite like the idea of off the shoulder, long drapy sleeves. And Petals. On the skirt. Smiley

Something like these below would be great;

Another problem is that my 'seamstress' is my 92 year old Grandmother and she doesn't want to do anything too complex. She also doesn't like altering patterns.

Any help you can give me would be great; I understand that I'm asking for a lot.

Thanks,

Rebecca.
