11  Re: Monster Swap 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by leslieyam on: August 08, 2011 06:11:00 PM
I received an awesome package from Pioneer9!  First the largest item was a sweet mini quilt featuring an adorable purple monster.  She nailed my favorite color combo.

Here's a close up of the stitching.
And next a great little 5x7 monster collage framed and ready for hanging.  I love the metalic used here.
And finally...two great hand drawn magnets.

I really love everything.  This is truely a great package.  I hope pioneer9 likes the crafts I am making for her and much as I dig these!  Thanks so much!

I received parts one and two of my package from estar23!  They were filled with some very cool stuff for me and my family.  (I asked for things I could give my Husband and Mom as gifts - both big DW fans)  The first thing was a Matt Smith T-Shirt for my hubby with a bowtie attached.  If it's not clear in the picture the powder blue tie has little blue stars on it.

Next was a cute little amaguri duck wearing a fez.

And the large was a dalek lap blanket for my mom.  It must have taken a lot of patience to follow a pattern so intricate.  It's reinforced with fleece too so it is very warm.

She threw in some fun extras too...including a paper mache star box, acrylic paint in tardis blue, some blue notecards, and a dalek magnet.

Thanks so much estar23!  Great stuff! Fun swap!

I received my package from TheSavoyTruffle last night!  She chose Hansel and Gretel from my list.  I love it!  Very cute and detailed.  It's also kinda Christmasy, so it looks great in my apartment right now with the tree and other decorations.  Thanks so much SavoyTruffle.

My angel is awesome!  arimethia made me this amazing (and roomy) hot air balloon bag.

Here's a close-up of the design:

She also made me this kick-ass pair of earrings and this necklace made of sea glass!  The green and blue look great with my complexion and red hair!  I totally would have picked these out shopping for jewelery.

I love it all!  Thank you so much!  arimethia rocks!

I'm not sure if I am doing this in the right order, but I've been low on communication lately and since she asked me to take the pictures, I wanted to make sure my partner knows she's getting some cool stuff.  I will be mailing this package out tomorrow on my lunch break.  I'll be sure to PM my partner the DC when that is done.  First, here are my materials and receipts.

Dollar Store Materials:
1 Hanging wooden shelf
2 eye masks
1 pack of buttons
1 cameo hair accessory
1 dog leash
1 eye glass chain
1 pack of glow bracelets (extras)

Total: $8

Some of the materials did not make it into my final projects.  I hope that is okay.  I got frustrated with the ribbon yarn and the dog collar ended up looking too much like a dog collar.

For the large I painted the compartments in this little shelf in some of gala_apples' favorite colors and made some little polymer clay objects (that I think she'll like after browsing her wist) from scraps in my stash.  Then I finished it off with the dog leash as trim.

For the medium I took the two eye masks and sewed them together into a pouch and used the loop from the dog leash as a handle.  The decorations are the buttons from the $1 pack I bought and some scrap felt and thread from my stash.  This picture was taken while the pouch was still in progress.

For the small I took the cameo from the hair accessory and attached it to the eyeglass chain.

18  Pasta Salad with Tuna and Veggies in Recipes and Cooking Tips by leslieyam on: May 04, 2010 03:47:39 PM
I've been trying to figure out a way to enjoy whole grain pasta.  The texture has always bothered me.  I thought I'd try it cold in a pasta salad mixed with lots of other textures, to make it more palatable.  I had some tuna on hand, so I thought I'd add some for protein, and this dish started to come together.  It's a good light and somewhat healthy meal for warm weather.

Ingredients:

1/2 lb. whole grain rotini
1 can solid white tuna packed in water
1 roma tomato seeded, cored, and diced
1 stalk celery
1/2 cucumber diced (I like to leave some of the skin on for extra fiber)
1 handfull of green olives cut in half
1 pinch dried thyme
1 pinch dried basil
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/4 cup light mayo
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Cook and rinse the pasta, chop the veggies, and break up the tuna.  Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, cover and refrigerate for an hour or so until its nicely chilled and all the flavors have a chance to mingle.  I don't like raw onion, but you could use raw onion or scallion instead of the onion powder.  Capers might make a good addition.  Grated carrot would be good too.

I received an awesome package from Lady_sepulchre yesterday!  Thank you so much!  I love my new green treasures!  Look out guys, this is going to be a pic heavy post.  I guess I'll go largest to smallest starting with the most adorable amigurumi dragon ever!

Here's a side view...showing his little shamrock tattoo.

Close up!

Next is a beaded jar.  It's for my paint brushes  Smiley

Here's a close up of the bead work.  Check out how intricate this is.  Lady_sepulchre must have a very steady hand.

And here we have a lovely dreamcatcher which includes a feather from her dove.  Here it is in the shade.

Here it is in the sun, catchin' dreams  Smiley

And finally, a very pretty necklace, which I am going to wear as soon as I have an occasion to go out.  She definitely picked up on my love of emeralds.

I feel lucky to have such a thoughtful and talented partner.  Grin Now I just hope she will like what I made for her.

20  Re: Wizard of Oz 2010 Gallery! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by leslieyam on: March 06, 2010 08:59:01 AM
Hiya everybody!  I just received the best package ever from amydice!  I should have taken pictures of everything beautifully wrapped in different colored tissue paper and little notes attached explaining each thing, but once I remembered to do that I was half way in to it acting like a crazed tissue shredding machine, but this picture gives you an idea.

The large is a representation of the moment Dorothy's house falls on the witch of the East in pillow form!  I think it's so cool how she captured the sepia tones from the movie.

Ok, this one is my favorite.  I am amazed at Amy's crochet skills.  She must have lots of patience.  She captured every detail of the Tin Man's mechanical heart.

Funny story about this next one.  I wanted to make sure I got a good shot of these ruby slippers on my feet, so I went out on my balcony and because the bars from the railing was casting a shadow I decided to hang my foot over the side.  My husband saw me from the couch and said "Don't jump!"  I joked back that I thought maybe they had magic and I was seeing if they worked."  HAHA

Next was a lions, tigers, and bears...oh my! charm bracelet.  Awesome!  I'm going to wear this when I go out tonight.

And finally...I got some really nifty extras!

I am so happy with everything.  I owe amydice a big thank you!  I only hope she likes her stuff half as much as I love mine.  What an awesome partner!
