2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / chicken jumpers - to keep a hen cosy in winter! on: September 18, 2011 03:26:52 AM
http://littlehenrescue.co.uk/jumpers.aspx

a neighbour asked me to make a chicken jumper for her bald hen for the winter, and i have had a go -wondering if anyone else has made a hen warmer before and has any pics/tips?
i'd love to make a whole wardrobe for poor Mrs Chicken (named by my neighbours 18months old girl!)
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / bread - what am i doing wrong?!?! on: January 28, 2011 01:38:07 PM
i'm a fair cook, my boys and husband are very kind in their praise, but for the life of me i cannot do bread!

i've tried a staright white loaf, wholemeal, italian foccacia and ciabatta and followed recipes to the letter as well as winging it instinctively.
no dice, can't do it. they usually come out very very heavy and dense *sigh*

is there a 'knack' that i just don't have?!
4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / new girl on the wheel... on: January 10, 2011 06:21:55 AM
...and the spindle! i've been practicing and have begun to produce enough to actually work with after being so precious with my fibres and fretting over using it all up at once! Cheesy

a small amount of colour experimenting - very happy colours, i wish i had done more when i was in the flow!

my very first go evar! (you can see the box it was delivered in!)

made enough to actually do something with of this one! (still only 87 yds!) this was on the wheel and took a coupple of afternoons.

currently on this lovely foresty greeny blue ^_^

cc welcome, any hints/help?

thanks!

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / carol service hall decorations on: November 10, 2010 06:40:54 AM
hi peeps,
i've been asked for some creative input for decorating a school hall for a carol service on the 18th dec.
one of the drawbacks of hiring a school hall is that nothing can be fixed in such a way as damages the schools property, so staples & nails are out!

i'm thinking that a classic red & gold palette would be best, and i could use helium balloons tied to chairbacks would give height and drama for such a large space.

perhaps wide ribbon/fabric strip bows on the back row of chairs, maybe every 3rd one...

any other ideas you's care to offer?
i think those who have designed and decorated their own wedding reception venues would be very helpful, as their experience would translate well Smiley

hope you guys can help - and i promise i'll post piccies Wink

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / another stitch marker swap? on: September 22, 2010 03:50:10 AM
anyone up for a small, low pressure swap before christmas?
i need some crochet stitch markers, so i had a look and what do i find? of course it's been done before!

there's a lot of OTT swaps around, but this would be for maybe 5 stitch markers, knitting or crochet as your partner desires.

what do you think?

9  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / narrowing down what i want to do! on: August 10, 2010 07:42:01 AM
hi all, i've already read so much helpful advice on this board - what i'm having trouble with now is narrowing down what i'm actually going to do and sell.

i'm sewing, first things first - and after making tag blankets and bibs and toys for friends babies i'm finally thinking i could make some money if i would sell it. but then talking to neighbours i realised there's not many suppliers of larger sized bibs and washable swim nappies for older, disabled and special needs children/teens. (my neighbour has a 9yr old affected by meningitis and another neighbour works in a special needs senior school)

so should i specialise? do you think it would be a bit of a jumble sale if i started by selling one or two of this and that?
i have no real capital, only stash! so i need to make what i can really to earn enough to buy more materials... i'm just  a bit overwhelemd by the whole 'homesewn for baby' industry and having serious confidence issues about finding sales.

hoping there will be some feedback, all welcome! Cheesy
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / steampunk inspired set on: August 05, 2010 07:00:42 AM
these were made for a friends 40th, i was just messing really with a box of clock bits, buttons and beads and it developed into the necklace first and then the ring (which i had a hard time giving up! she's lucky i love her! Cheesy)

anyway, my first things this style, so feedback appreciated!

oh and the gears on the necklace still turn! *happy* Grin
