1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Soft structured carrier for a doll on: May 02, 2011 01:11:56 PM
Since my littlest has a doll he likes to carry around every now and again, I considered buying him a mini-version of one of the soft structured carriers (SSC). After checking the prices of the mini-Ergo, I wasn't so sure. It was perfect, then, to find some rucksack straps that I've kept "in case I'll need them for something"  Roll Eyes after discarding an outworn backpack.

Being quite a happy-go-lucky crafter, I took some brief measures of the doll, picked out a wrap scrap and a piece of vintage bedlinen and made an impulse carrier in 45 minutes.

My little babywearer instantly took to it, but I wasn't entirely happy. The body of the carrier was too short, so the doll's head (it's a JOYK newborn with a convincingly floppy head) was falling every which way. You'd be able to see that if the only position the kiddo was willing to hold still in hadn't been "look at me, I'm a turtle". So after the holidays I unpicked the very solid stitching (when will I ever learn not to be so sturdy when I experiment) and made it longer. I also took it in a tad on the top to avoid the shoulder straps slipping from the wearer's shoulder. Presto: Better carrier. (According to my son, the doll is not smiling for the photograph because: "He can only play that he smiles, and he doesn't want to do that now.")
