21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: For a guy friend, and I want it to be awesome! on: December 03, 2006 09:39:20 AM
a few ideas:

A fisherman's hat made with cool manly fish fabric
a journal for his poems
checkout line themed marble magnets
improv in a box: decorate a box with whatever you want, include in the  box one bag of slips of paper with verbs and one bag of slips of paper with adverbs. To play, choose one from each bag and "Dance" "Crazily" or whatever the two say. The other person or people have to guess what the slips say. You could also make a couple really tiny dolls and a teeny park bench and play mini park bench (another improv game) acting out the scene with the dolls.

that's all I can think of for now  Smiley

Thanks for the ideas!  Smiley I was also pointed to this link in another thread - it has a long list from several different countries as well!

I originally posted this in Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage on the Holidays and Occasions board, but I think I will get more answers here.

Here's the story: my secret santa is in Australia. I wanted to send him some goodies like candy that are manufactured/sealed in case he has allergies or something. I was originally going to send chocolate dipped peanut brittle, but I know some people with peanut allergies can get a reaction just being near them, and since my package wasn't hermetically sealed, I didn't want to risk it. Can anyone give me an idea of some US candy or something to send that isn't available in Australia? I want it to be something he can't just go to a convenience store & pick up. It's not the only thing I'm giving him but I thought it would be a neat addition to the gift.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

That's kind of a tough theme to work with... Can you draw? A nice portrait of some of the characters might be nice. Or perhaps a journal with the phantom on the front and musical notes in the pages?

I really like your super girl in a box idea! If you do the nail polish thing, include some toe separators and a nice pumice stone - she can give herself a mini-pedicure! You can add some nail clippers and some little jewels with nail glue to apply after the polish. Maybe some lip balm or something too. All cheap, but put them together and they are a cute and thoughtful gift for your friend.

How about some fingerless gloves? Maybe a reconned journal with motorcycle pictures? Or if you are into buying something, a motorcycle magazine subscription? I got one for my boss' husband and he LOVED it. What about making a christmas stocking with a felt motorcycle on it? Or a motorcycle survivial kit in a decorated altoids tin? It could have sunscreen, lip balm, one of those cap things you put on the air valves of tires (I've lost several of those in my lifetime)? Just some ideas to work with....  Smiley

30  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Gift for a good hawaiian/music lovin' friend? on: December 01, 2006 07:49:47 AM
catchy trumpet phrase? How about "blow me!"  Grin

What about a tote or purse with hawaiian/hibiscus print fabric? That would be really neat with bamboo handles.

Hawaii in a box would be neat too. I would of course include macadamia nuts, you could easily make a lei (or mini lei to be worn as a bracelet) with silk flowers, some beads, and some clear fishing wire type thread. And maybe a book about hawaii with a hibiscus themed bookmark?
