1  Sugar Scrubs! In fancy jars! Super simple recipe and lots of photos. in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by hellotheremary on: December 16, 2009 11:17:34 PM
So I decided to make some sugar scrubs for Christmas presents! It was my first time making anything bath and body related, so I decided to go with something super easy.
I followed a recipe I found somewhere online, it called for:

4 cups of sugar
along with
1 cup of vegetable oil.

I thought it might even be a little too oily, but that's helped to make my hands feel softer after washing with it.
I also added soap coloring and some scents.

ALSO, I really, really hate when people post blurry photos, but I've been having a lot of camera trouble lately. So I would like to apologize, this is the best I could do. D:

All of the containers together. They're all either mint, mango or... mystery juicy couture scent. They all have a little handwritten tag with simple directions on it, attached  with embroidery floss.
(I don't like how the bigger containers are only half filled. D: I wish I would have bought more supplies! I only used one small bag of sugar).

These are the tops of the smaller canning jars. I found them in Target, but there was only one set of four. Sad

Here's the tops of the other containers. They were just Target brand tupperware, with screw on lids.
I would have rather used more jars, but the only other kind they had were huuuge.

This one is for my best friend, it's my favorite!

Here's the inside of a mint!

And the inside of a mango!

And the mystery scent!

This is what I used for the scent.
The Juicy smelling one is a sample that my friend got, and passed on to me.
The mango one is a small body spray that I got in the travel-sized stuff at Target, it was only a dollar.
The mint is Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap. I think I'm going to have a problem with that, it looks like it may make the sugar kinda weird, but I'm not sure yet.

I just poured tiny bits in until it smelled "right".

Online it said they would last up to three months, and I'm hoping this is true! I hope the oil doesn't all sink to the bottom either.

Well, I'm proud of it as a first try! Cheesy
Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy it!!!

2  Re: OH DEER. Antlers?!?!? in Halloween Costumes by hellotheremary on: November 07, 2009 04:07:23 PM
OP is back!!! I'm so surprised everyone ended up being deer, it makes me so happy!!! Cheesy
I ended up getting gross-sick and not having time to get aaaanything done.
So 2 days before Halloween I ended up making some antlers out of Model Magic, since it was what I had lying around. I made ears, and a tail too!
I hot glued the ears and antlers to an old headband. I liked the way it turned out, because I ended up putting in a lot less effort then I wanted to.
Cheesy

My boyfriend was Speed Racer!

3  OH DEER. Antlers?!?!? in Halloween Costumes by hellotheremary on: September 23, 2009 06:10:39 PM

Ooh!

So this year, I wanted to be something super funky, but easy. I was lurking around the internet and found THIS picture. (NOT ME, or anyone I know, sorry if it is you).

SO I WANT TO BE A DEER. But I'd like to have some slightly realistic looking antlers. I plan on them being the thing that really "makes" the costume. I plan on wearing similar makeup and a brown outfit with a tail! Black shoes, black gloves. Something relatively simple.

So I made these antlers out of sticks, scotch tape, masking tape and gesso.
They got the general idea, but I'm not satisfied yet.

Here's a detail, so you can see how great they don't look.

ON MY HEAD. (do they look too big?) I plan on somehow attaching them to a headband?
p.s. I have a giant leaf!!!

SO I just wanted to show them off, ask for help.

So if anyone has an idea for a better technique, or how to improve on these, thank you in advance!
Or any deer costume ideas?
