2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Emergency kit swap??? on: April 12, 2011 02:33:24 PM
On of our local channels has aired a thing about emergency kits and having them ready so you could evacuate your house in 10 minutes.  I'm updating my kit and was wanting to add some homemade things to it, like colorful bandanas to cover your mouth/nose or for use as bandages or hankies.  Maybe make some laminated checklists  or binders of emergency tips for our partners.

Is ther any interest in doing a swap to help us get our emergency/72-hour kits together?  With all of the earthquake activity going on I know there's been a lot more talk about them.  Also, it's tornado season in tornado alley, then there's hurricane season on the eastern side of the states.

I was thinking of opening it up for sign ups in May and sendouts mid June.
3  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Super Spectacular Placemat Swap Signup thru April 4; Due: May 13 on: March 21, 2011 03:49:50 PM
Are you looking to jazz up mealtimes?  How about some spicy placemats?  What about something really fun for the kiddos?  Remember those solitare games at restaraunts with the pegs, maybe we could work something like that into placemats.  How about some nice spring colors to get us out of the blah's of winter.  Did you know blue is an appetite supressing color?  Might help with those weight loss goals a lot of us have.  Maybe you've got more than enough traditional placemats, but would really love a set of smaller lunch mats/mug rugs?  We could work with that, too.

I'm going to open this up to sets of 4 & sets of 8.  That way, we'll hopefully get all family sizes covered.  If you've got other ideas feel free to work with your partners.  There's lots of room for customization in this swap, so please talk it up with each other.  If you've got ideas of something you'd like feel free to add it to your wist or link it here in the thread.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Placemat swap on: November 13, 2010 09:36:28 AM
What do you think about a placemat swap?  I'm a quilter, so these are sort of  instant gratification projects for me.  Which I love.  I've also received some great knit & crochet ones as well.  We could start sign ups in January if anyone would be up for it.  What do you think about swapping for a set of 4?

7  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Christmas Stocking Stuffers 2009 version 2.0 Send by November 30 on: October 19, 2009 12:22:31 PM
Are you the person who wakes up on christmas morning to an empty, skinny stocking,

Lady lanalla started this thread http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=312862.0
and wrote 'It might sound petty of me, but the child inside me (the one I let out regularly) looks at my stocking on Christmas morning and whimpers a little "how come me stocking is so empty?" the answer is I'm the one who puts the stocking stuffers together! I fill my families stockings full to OVERFLOWING with goodness and fun, which I love to do, but somehow each year my DH forgets that one little chore of filling mine. He does okay on the present front. Not great mind, but okay, except he forgets this area. My mom tries to help, but... well. I think it wold be more fun if I got to open some true surprises from some fantastic swapper.' the discussion went to over 24 pages and many people shared stories of being single moms, having broken up with SOs, living away from home, or just living with otherwise wonderful people who just dont get the importance of christmas stockings.

If this is you and if you want to spoil a fellow deserving craftster...then read on!

this swap is to craft a bunch of stocking stuffers for a craftster who really needs a little spoiling at christmas. Around 20 smalls, (30% purchased and 70% crafted) all wrapped to add to our stocking. If you wish, you can nominate someone to receive the package and stuff your stocking for you, so you wake up to a stocking overflowing with fun, good cheer, joy and a little bit of love.

There is also an optional extra component, this is to craft one large item as a christmas gift for your partner, this will be wrapped and put under the tree. You can sign up for the stuffer only, or the stuffer plus gift. Your choice.

Check kishcrafts notes on the 12 days of christmas swap, it contains very useful info on mailing, flat rate boxes etc. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=319693.0

Please think long and hard about signing up, the purpose of this swap is to bring some holiday love and good cheer to someone, please do not sign up unless you are sure that you can fulfil the terms of the swap. It would be heartbreaking to work really hard to make someone's christmas and then to get let down by being flaked on.

Of course if you are not alone at christmas, if you have dozens of people to fill your stocking, but want to share some of your good fortune...then you are more than welcome to sign up too!..

Please remember, this swap is more than just beautifully crafted items, it is also about love and care for someone who might need a touch of it on christmas morning, so communicate with your partner, get to know her and please please spoil her rotten!!
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Ron's Blanket Swap on: October 14, 2009 09:21:43 AM
I've been browsing peoples wists and have noticed a lot of people love Ron Weasley's knit & crochet blanket as much as I do.  Basically, we would swap  5 or 10 (or whatever) 8 inch squares in worsted weight yarn that can be knit or crochet.  Size is important because all of the squares should line up.  I think it could be a great stash buster swap as Ron's blanket is a hodge podge of colors and patterns.  My blankets get used a ton so I'm hoping everyone wants to use fiber that can be machine washed.

I'm not sure if it's OK to post swaps from another site, but here's a link from where all of the pictures are coming from.  If I need to edit this part please let me know.

I'm willing to give organizing a go, but if someone with experience wants to jump in that would be OK, too.
9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Blue/Green Buttoney Goodness on: September 30, 2009 09:40:51 AM
This is a quilt I made to hang on my family room wall.

My girls made these beautiful water colored picture and framed them in these bright blue and bright green frames that didn't match anything in the room.  So, wa-la here's a quilt that matches.  The center of the flowers are some of the gazillions of white and/or pearl buttons that seem to be multiplying in my button box.
10  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Flannel - my new obsession on: September 30, 2009 09:36:46 AM
Mmmm, I love the smell of flannel in the morning.   Grin  My friend introduced me to the warm, snuggly joy of a rag quilt.  This is the first one I made.

It's for me.  I swear it is.  I just can't convince my family it was made for me, just me.  They all love how soft and snuggly it is.  In an effort to reclaim my blanket I'm making each of my family members their own for Christmas.  Hubby's is already sewn, so is his moms.  I've just got to clip all of the seams.  That takes FOREVER.  Talk about a hand cramp, ouch.  There are only 2 1/2 to go, so I've got plenty of time.  As my reward for finishing all of the Christmas quilts on time I get to make myself a pink & brown rag quilt.  I'm hoping with so many roaming the house I'll be able to snuggle under at least one of them.

Hope you all enjoy.
