2  Re: Old Fashioned Book Lover's Swap GALLERY, send by Feb 26 2013 in The Swap Gallery by pcollins399 on: February 28, 2013 01:24:19 PM
Pcollins, the artwork based on the book cover is truly amazing! Can you tell us how you made it? The robot bookmark is really cool too, working in paper seems to be your thing!

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this.

Here's another photo that I took before sending.

The whole thing was actually inspired by a project on the show "Art Attack" that I saw when I was a kid.  Here's a link to the segment I'm talking about!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECsMWkLEFGE

The basic concept is that each element is in its own separate layer to give some depth.  The original idea is to use cardboard frames and glue saran wrap onto them, then paint on your scenes.  I wanted to have something a bit more sturdy so I picked up some display boxes from the dollar store and took the front panels off of them and ta-da, wood frames with a hard plastic surface to work on!

From there it was really just laying out each layer and then putting it all together.  The buildings and the flames are both actually painted onto the plastic whereas the paper man and the books are *of course* paper.  Once everything was dry just glue them together and paint!  The whole thing is actually close to an inch thick because I used three of the frames.

The hardest part of the whole thing was actually putting the paint on thick enough that it wasn't spotty when you looked at it.  Also, making the paper man was a bit of a pain but I'm pretty happy with how he turned out!

Well I received on Friday but haven't had a chance to post my wonderful package until just now.

Fancybutch sent me a copy of 1984 by Orwell, a book that I've been wanting to read for a long time but have just never gotten around to.  I'm super excited about it!

The bookmark and the item that she sent along with the book are both themed around the book itself which I love.

First the bookmark which includes one of her favourite quotes.

Front:

Back:

and finally she sent along this sweet blackwork hoop.  She's told me that the image of "Room 101" is something very significant to the book and I'm very interested to find out more about it.

Now that I've received I just want to say thanks to the organizers because I think you've paired us up pretty well!

Thanks again fancybutch!!!

4  Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 8 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by pcollins399 on: November 08, 2012 04:17:57 PM
Hello folks!!!  So excited that I get to be the first to receive and post for this swap!  (For those wondering what took so long a piece of the package was mischievousness and hid on dfabbric when she packed up the rest.  It was subdued and sent along a bit later and really CanPost really dragged it's heels getting it here.)  But anyways...

I couldn't wait til Christmas to open it, and now I'm really glad I didn't, plus I wanted to put my stocking up as early as possible.

Here is everything all together.

And now for some close ups...

The AWESOME stocking!

It's modeled after Link from the Zelda franchise.  The front is his tunic and the back is his shield and sword.  So cool!

She also sent along a pot holder made of epic Zelda fabric and and embroidered Link from my favourite game "The Wind Waker".  As well there is a nice embroidered tea towel in the same style.

The third item that she made for me is this nice bracelet with a triforce on one side and the Hylian crest on the other.

You can also see from the first picture that she sent me some of the same fabric that the pot holder is made of, some nice fleece Superman fabric, and sweet decals of the Hylian crest that I have yet to decide what item I posses that is worthy of such greatness.

Super happy with this swap and very envious that my partner was able to send out so early.  Now back to work on hers to make it equally as awesome!

5  Re: Weird Stuffie Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by pcollins399 on: January 12, 2011 07:25:02 PM
So I received my package from Rousseline and it's FRIGGIN" AWESOME!!!  I can't believe how cool and awesome it is!!!  I've always thought that a couch stuffie would be awesome and I thought that it would be a good idea to send that along with my themes at the beginning.  What I got was way better than I could have imagined, so without further ado here is the... Makar Couch!

So not only did I get my couch but she also tied in my love of Zelda from the Makar stuffie that is on my wist.  The couch itself is so well done, I know that even if I could knit that I could never in 100 years make something this good!

and here he is without the pillow...

and then on top of that is the awesome extra that she sent along, an ami Link!!

Seriously, Rousseline's skills are the bomb!!!  This crochet is wicked and I love it!

And here is a pic of Link just chillin' on the couch!

THANKS SOO MUCH ROUSSELINE!!!  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!!! (yes, that demanded the CAPS)

6  Re: Sock Monkey/ Sock Critter Swap Round 2 - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by pcollins399 on: August 24, 2010 03:42:30 PM
I received from titaniumhip today!!!!

I have to say that I was quite excited to get it open.  All you Doctor Who fans are going to die for this monkey!

Here he is, the 11th Socktor in all his bowtie and fez wearing glory!!!!

And what is that!  There is a plush Dalek in his midst (or his lap rather)

I actually quite admired this when I saw that titaniumhip had made one of these for the Doctor Who swap that is just finishing up.  I'm so lucky to have one of my own now!!

And here are some shots of his details...

His bowtie (because bowties are cool!), wristwatch, and double hearts! ( I thought this was quite clever)

And a close up of his lovely face so you can admire his suave haircut.

THANKS SOOO MUCH titaniumhip!!!!!

I love this monkey so much!  I will hopefully be sending yours out in the next few days, there is just one more element that I want to finish!

7  Re: February 2010 Birthday Swap Gallery/Discussion in The Swap Gallery by pcollins399 on: April 07, 2010 07:33:32 PM
Sorry bout the delay, finally received my much awaited package from goktrose (must have been extra delayed because of Easter) and then forgot about it because of my class/exam study schedule.

Here is everything that she sent me

An awesome gameboy iPod cover in my favourite colour  (and don't worry goktrose, it fits perfectly)

And some sock monkey fabric that as of right now I don't know what is epic enough to make out of it...I'll need a bit to think on it.

She also sent some hot chocolate along that I have already enjoyed...

Thanks for the wonderful package goktrose!

So I received my birthday package from alwaysinmyroom yesterday and boy was I happy!

Here's a shot of everything that she sent me:

Here's a closeup on the most excellent hook roll that she made me that looks pretty much exactly like the one on my wist!  I love that you did the checker pattern and the lime green on the inside is pretty darn cool!  Plus she also sent me a few hooks along with it.

And here's some of the extras that she sent along to me:

LOTS of chocolate and some hot chocolate that my housemates and I are definitely loving!  We all thank you!

And here's some yarn that I'll work in to something amigurumi in the summer once I have no classes.  PLUS some freezer paper that I will definitely be using for some stenciling.  For some reason I cannot find this anywhere so it'll make it much easier on me.

Thanks SO much alwaysinmyroom!  I love the hook roll and everything else that you sent along with it!

Just recieved my package from mouser882 today!  Was anticipating it the whole time that I was working on a group project.  I think that everything in it was purely awesome and I think that I got a great first swap!  So with no further ado...

P is for Piranha Plant Scarf!

I absolutely love this thing!  I posted a comment on the original persons thread and was actually thinking about making this for myself somethime.  My girlfriend also thanks you mouser becuase she's apparently been trying to figure out how to make this for me lol.

A is for Accidental Ornaments

And the backsides

Apparently these wre originally meant to be coasters but I think that they make some darn excellent ornaments.

T is for TRIFORCE Pillow!

By the way mouser, Link totally loves this as much as I do

R is for Robot Potholder/hot pad

This is pretty cool.  Can't imagine how long that took you...not sure if I'll ever use it for the intended purpose, it's just too darn wicked to risk getting messy!

I is for video game Items candy tins

(This also has K in it...)

These are a pretty SWEET! lol  The candy is most deffinitely tasty and I'm sure the tins will get some extra use.

C is for Retro Video Game Coasters

So happy with these coasters...especially because they feature some of my favourite video games ever.  Love the Windwaker & Galaga!

K is for Name Keychain (See picture for I)

All in all I have to say that I'm really happy with everything that I've recieved.  That scarf is definitely going to come in hand once winter hits.  Thanks SOOO much mouser!!!  Thanks for the excellent swap!
