1  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: 14 Quilt Projects in 2014 Quilt Along! on: April 14, 2014 06:59:09 AM
Love the bag. Did you put pics on it or is that the fabric print?

Sorry for the delay in answering and getting more pics up.

donniesgirl: all the fabrics on the bag except for the purple are from Michael Miller's "Ghastlies" line. The pockets with the portraits are pieced together from 2 separate fabrics. You can see them better in my previous post.

The purple is just plain kona cotton and the green on the inside of the handles is cotton duck.

Thanks for the "warm fuzzies" everyone!

Purple is my all-time favorite color so I had to put it on somewhere! It'll also be the lining.

Honestly as frustrating as it was to sort out and put together, it has been a lot of fun. A good chunk of the issues stem from the fact that my patience is next to zero and I have back issues that prevent me from going on good long sewing binges.

But if anyone decides to try it this year, there's all sorts of blogs out there with advice and I'd be more than happy to add in the tidbits that I learned from working on it.  Grin

After running away....I mean taking a break from this. I finally decided that I can't work on another quilting project til I finish this sucker!! I still have to assemble and sew in the lining, but not gonna lie. I'm pretty proud of myself for finishing the outside!

I'll get some better pictures later, this one was from last night, when it was late and I wanted to set this bag on fire.

You should definitely try it MareMare!!! Okay, I know I don't paint a pretty picture with this, lol, but a lot of it is my own personal "sewing demons". When I'm working on it and I'm not having "technical difficulties" I'm having fun, the second it annoys me I make myself take a break from it. But I will finish this bag if its the last thing I do!!! Thanks cursive_queen! I did manage to find more of the fabric for not too horrendous of a price.

Every time I run into an issue I walk away from it for a few days. I ended up remaking an outer pocket panel instead of unpicking 10,000,000 stitches, time off til the fabric arrived, couldn't decide on an interior/piping/handle fabric. I'd rather it take me a month to make than come out with something that's done half-a$$ed.

I do have such a deep love for the Ghastlies though! There will be a couple more relatives popping up on this bag Grin

Getting jealous of all the progress everyone is making!!!

In other news...I'm pretty sure the weekender is eating my soul Huh

Idk what it is about it, but I equally want to get it done and throw it in a drawer for awhile. Its like a great big time suck, I'll work on one small portion, think it only took an hour and it takes 3!!! Also when I originally bought the Ghastlies fabric, I had no idea what I wanted to use it for, so when I started this I realized I didn't have enough and had to track down more, because apparently what I bought previously is being discontinued and is a BEAR to find!!! However I will say that Elizabeth Hartman's method is less headache inducing than the original instructions with a thousand sheets of peltex.

Outer panel with side pocket:

both pieced side panels:

interior one with 2 big pockets, the other side will have a zippered pocket:

Still have to make the piping, top/bottom panels and assemble....Pretty sure I'm going to have to start seeking assistance from a Mr. J. Daniels soon.....
7  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Starting a new quilt, not sure how to go about it. on: January 22, 2014 08:04:09 AM
Have you considered reverse applique, I think its also called mixed mola where you stack multiple fabrics and cut through the layers to get to the one you need?

Outline the design of the animal, cut away the top layer of fabric around it. Leave that alone and quilt the rest.

This is the basic idea.

Thanks! Grin I get so nervous about making things and giving them to people who aren't my Mom, who will love it because she has to haha.

LOL on the kitty butt rug!! He has this obsession with super soft things, that red blanket under him was one I brought out especially for him and scrunched up into a nest for him so he'd leave me alone while I quilted  Roll Eyes But he does need something for his carrier other than a folded up towel, so I think tonight I'll be breaking out more mylar and some fleece for a new kitty butt rug.

It's finally done!!! So basically it broke down like this:
Took all of "P.S. I Love You" to unpick the machine sewn top stitching of the binding. Started hand sewing while watching "Easy A", finished sewing and burying threads just before "Now You See Me" ended.

And I think I'm officially in love with Clover Wonder Clips Roll Eyes

And of course nothing I do is ever done without Murphy's approval (aka, human didn't realize she'd made a kitteh heat mat, must make one for feline overlord asap!)

I have one of those mini irons but I never remember to use it!

Cute table runner. Aw man, picking out binding sounds like the least fun thing ever...except maybe for picking out quilting!

Yea I'm not looking forward to it. It's 33" by 12-ish" so its not super huge. I machined the binding down when I should have just hand stitched the final part. So I really only have to unpick half of the binding, but still....not my idea of a good time!
