1  Re: 14 Quilt Projects in 2014 Quilt Along! in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by noturavggeek on: December 22, 2014 01:19:54 PM
So I haven't touched my 14 quilt projects list much, but I'm finally back to quilting! For my niece and nephew I made quilted pillow shams in their favorite characters, Rainbow Bright and Boba Fett

I dug up basic pics/stencils from the interweb and made templates for the appliques. The backs are the same fabrics as the outer border and just straight stitched quilted. They're now on their way to Florida, hope the germ goblins like them!

After running away....I mean taking a break from this. I finally decided that I can't work on another quilting project til I finish this sucker!! I still have to assemble and sew in the lining, but not gonna lie. I'm pretty proud of myself for finishing the outside!

I'll get some better pictures later, this one was from last night, when it was late and I wanted to set this bag on fire.

Getting jealous of all the progress everyone is making!!!

In other news...I'm pretty sure the weekender is eating my soul Huh

Idk what it is about it, but I equally want to get it done and throw it in a drawer for awhile. Its like a great big time suck, I'll work on one small portion, think it only took an hour and it takes 3!!! Also when I originally bought the Ghastlies fabric, I had no idea what I wanted to use it for, so when I started this I realized I didn't have enough and had to track down more, because apparently what I bought previously is being discontinued and is a BEAR to find!!! However I will say that Elizabeth Hartman's method is less headache inducing than the original instructions with a thousand sheets of peltex.

Outer panel with side pocket:

both pieced side panels:

interior one with 2 big pockets, the other side will have a zippered pocket:

Still have to make the piping, top/bottom panels and assemble....Pretty sure I'm going to have to start seeking assistance from a Mr. J. Daniels soon.....

It's finally done!!! So basically it broke down like this:
Took all of "P.S. I Love You" to unpick the machine sewn top stitching of the binding. Started hand sewing while watching "Easy A", finished sewing and burying threads just before "Now You See Me" ended.

And I think I'm officially in love with Clover Wonder Clips Roll Eyes

And of course nothing I do is ever done without Murphy's approval (aka, human didn't realize she'd made a kitteh heat mat, must make one for feline overlord asap!)

Here's my first project without binding, its a table runner/hot pad for my friend Lyds:

I put binding on it after I took the pic and of course am unhappy with it so Ill be spending this evening unpicking it Sad

Also, I really need to work more on "pressing" vs "ironing" and patience, lol. I am a lot better at slowing down and spacing the project out though, so that's a plus Grin

Thanks soozeq! I've made slipper socks before but they were constructed differently, so this is my first attempt at turning a heel. Still have a lot to learn with these but I finally conquered my sock fear! Grin

7  Anna's Garden in Quilting: Completed Projects by noturavggeek on: March 08, 2013 06:58:30 AM
After marveling at the farm playmats on here I decided to make a version of one for my cousin's daughter who just turned 2. After finding all the fabrics, I realized its more of a garden than a farm, but eh, it works Cheesy

This being my third quilt, I'm still learning quite a bit, but some tidbits are finally sinking in:
  • spray starch is your friend
  • pressing and ironing = 2 entirely different concepts
  • when all of your local craft stores are out of basting spray, Elmer's washable glue sticks work (Thanks for the tip Mom!)
  • Probably should have pinned the strips as I was sewing, but the crookedness adds to the charm I think  Grin

Front and Backing:

I picked up the critters from the Fisher-Price store
