My family has always been understanding of my vegetarianism and now veganism and I find it very unfortunate that your family is putting you in this position! I think that since it is your house, it is your beliefs, you should have the last word. If you don't want a corpse in your house you shouldn't have to be put in that situation. Think of all the stuff you have to do in preparation for this dinner, clean, cook, make sure who is and isn't coming, etc. I think it's rude to be such a demanding guest. I don't think its selfish to ask them not to bring the turkey. Tradition is no justification for the slaughter of an innocent life, and if you don't want to be apart of that, you certainly don't have to.

The apple/cranberry crisp sounds perfect, I've made a raspberry one before. I'm sure its the same.

Anyone have any idea's for desserts? I was thinking a strawberry/raspberry pie, as well as the old fashioned pumpkin pie. Anything more interesting?

I did the same thing, I wish I had a camera, but I used fabric paint and type-writer font stamps. It really came out cool and I have my very own customized "vegan" bags.

there's a chocolate chip cookie recipe in one of sarah kramer's books, maybe la dolce vegan, it calls for silken tofu, and they are always really soft and chewy for days.

I was at Linen's N Things last night and I thought about getting some new towels (they are having a going out of business sale) and they had pretty nice towels for like 3.49, and I am pretty thrifty, so I passed... however I will be making a trip back their so I can fancy up some towels! I love this idea!

We make this salsa-type bean dip. Try getting the smallest cans that you can because it ends up being a lot of food.

1 can of pinto beans
1 can black eyed peas
1 can of black beans
1 can of corn
1 avocado cut in small pieces
1-2 tomatoes chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic, smashed/chopped
1+ jalapeno, finely chopped
chopped cilantro (as much as you like)
juice from one lime
1 tsp salt

You can add spices to taste like cumin, coriander, etc. and you serve it with chips.

So it can be done! The recipe looks so long, I don't have the confidence that I won't get bored half way through. Well done!
