1  Re: Make-a-Friend Round 6 -- Summer 2010 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by southernstitcher on: August 17, 2010 04:40:00 PM
Since my partner received 2 weeks ago and has not posted photos, I will go ahead and post the crafted items I sent.  What I didn't take pictures of are a small Christmas type tree which I spray painted black so she can decorate for Halloween, and a resin candle holder I saw with both argyle and fleur de lis design on it that I knew she'd like.
Here is everything else.

First, a laptop/messenger bag.  This thing is HUGE.  It's a McCalls pattern.  It has a long adjustable strap.  I used denim and quiliting cotton.

This is the outside of the bag under the flap, a panel with plenty of pockets.  It also has an inner zip pocket and the whole back is a large pocket for papers.

Then I did a wall hanging, as she indicated she needed things for her craft room wall:

Finally, I embroidered these Halloween designs - they are called Scary Windows, by Dru's Designs, found online.  I framed them, but she can remove them and sew them to whatever, or use them in some other way.  They are 4x4.

Ready to wist?  I received the best package 3 from Nostephot - this is incredible as it scratches several things off my "to sew" list!  I love the colors, and she did such a great job!  Thanks sooooo much Candace - I LOVE IT ALL!!!  Like others, I was having a troubled week and this totall cheered me up!!  And she has offered to send me the remaining fabric so I can make more cool kitchen stuff!!!

Up first is the towels and fabric bowls!   If anyone in my house uses these towels to clean up a kool aid spill they will be beaten, lol!

Next we have a lovely very needed ironing pad for my craft room.  I can roll it up and tie to to take to classes!  It's just the right size, too!

OVEN MITTS!!  I should post a picture of my present ones.  No, I shouldn't make you go "eeewww".  These are fabulous and oh so needed!!

And, finally, the best of all --- NOW I CAN REMOVE THE MAIL SORTER FROM MY WIST!!  This thing is fabulous.  It's made so well.  There are places for pens at the top, and the top pocket is different from the rest, so it can hold things that might fall out of the others.  I'm so sick of mail on my kitchen table, so this is just perfect-o!!

Candace thank you thank you thank you!!  This was very fun, and I was so blessed to have you as a partner and now, friend!

So excited that I received an awesome package from nostephot today!!

Above is a complete jewelry making kit - complete with everything I will need, and an adorable "Jewelry Making 101" binder that she made full of inspiration.  It has a ring at the top so I can hang it up.  Also seen is a CD of great New Orleans music.

Next up is fabric bins and an adorable stuffed owl.  And, she used some of my favorite fabric to line the bins that I sent her in package 1.  And I love me some burlap!  How nice was that?

Here we have some cute magnet buttons which are a tease for what is to come in package 3!!!  It came in a cute red drawstring bag which I forgot to photograph.

And finally, an adorable zippered bag with great big handles, again made from the fabric I sent, and the CUTEST EVER cross stitch to hang in my craft room!!  That little bow on it is tape measure ribbon!!  I have a daughter who is giving me fits right now, so I need to heed that phrase - a lot!!!

Thank you so much Candace for a wonderful package that is just my style - I love it all!!!

4  Glow Worm in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by southernstitcher on: May 25, 2010 12:38:47 PM
Okay, so he's NOT anatomically correct as a glow worm, or any worm according to my husband, but my swap partner liked him!  I "crafted a song" after shuffling all the songs on my Ipod, and came up with "Glow Worm" sung by the Mills Brothers, a swing music/vocal jazz group from a long time ago - you can search them on You Tube and see them performing this song in a 1966 video.
Anyway, I just had to make this for my partner, and yes his mouth is crooked, not perfect on purpose.  I wanted him to have just a slight edginess.

5  Decoupage recipe box, 4 pics in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by southernstitcher on: May 25, 2010 12:28:07 PM
I had no idea where else to put this, so I hope it's appropriate.  I did this for my 1st package in the Make a Friend swap.  I wasn't totally satisfied with it - there are wrinkles, and the Mod Podge isn't smooth as glass - but I'm sort of proud of the design itself.  I tried to incorporate some Louisiana and Texas food themes as well.
I certainly enjoyed making it, and have been scouring magazines and cutting like a madwoman so I can now make ME one!

So happy to be the 1st recipent!!  Nostephot sent me the best package 1.  We are so much alike!   She is from New Orleans and was displaced by Katrina - and NOLA is my favorite place on earth.  I live very close.  So, her package was a combo of NOLA stuff, reflecting how much she misses it, and her new life in Austin.  My new friend is very talented also!

The above is now my favorite tee shirt, from her favorite Austin Tex-mex restaurant!

Above is the beautiful fleur de lis cross stitch in a frame she did for me - it's on display in my LR now - I LOVE this!.  Then there are some great smalls like the pins, drink mix (which was perfect as I don't drink soda but do drink these and she didn't know that!).  She made those fleur de lis notecards - love them!  There is gum, a Burda Style personal measurement card (I do lots of garment sewing - how did she know that??)  "Be a New Orleanian wherever you are bookmark", and a great smelling candle.

The above shows the really great yo yos and fabric flowers she made.  I was looking into learning these not long ago.  There is a journal and a matching pouch for my purse filled with lip balms.  There is a scrapbook all about her that she sent.  Such a cool idea, I really enjoyed it.  The best ever necklace in the middle of the photo - it really deserves a pic of it's own so I will do that later.  I'll be wearing this a lot.  It's made with glass Mardi Gras beads she caught this year - the best Mardi Gras ever that NOLA has had.  So special!!!

Above are some of the fabrics in the box - I LOVE the green and blue screaming kitty!!  In the back is a cool red and black.

Is this not the coolest Halloween wall decoration?  Here is a closeup.  Sorry I didn't press them, I was wanting to take the photos right then!

Above is a great yarn basket that's in my bathroom now, an Austin cozy, Austin postcard which is going on my wall of cards and letters I've gotten from sewing friends, gummy worms, and a New Orleans Saints themed bookmark she made.  Love that, cause I really needed one!

Above is a close up of the beaded necklace!

Thank you, nostephot!!

7  Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, First Half 2010 in The Swap Gallery by southernstitcher on: April 14, 2010 06:01:58 PM
Sapphire Moon contacted me about the note in my signature saying I had some nice garment fabrics I'd like to swap.  So I sent her pics and descriptions, and she chose the fabrics she wanted.  In return, here is the lovely jewelry she made for me.

Up first is the black bead set.  I've been wanting a plain black bead set like this for a while, but couldn't find it anywhere.  Now I have exactly what I want!

Next, the bracelets she made.  I sent her some necklace and earring sets and she made these to match them.  Can I say they match perfectly?

Then, the "piece de resistance".  She made these sets from some a three strand bracelet and some loose crystals I sent her.  They belonged to my mother, who is gone now.  I have another 18" necklace just like the one she made, so now my sister and I will both have a set from all of this.

Finally, my surprise and extra.  I totally wasn't expecting this, so it was sure a nice thing, I love it.

Thanks again Sapphire Moon!

Yaaay!  I received from jennilocker today!  Thank you sooo much!  You crafted and sent just what I love....  Grin

First up, two drawstring bags so hubby and I can store our safety glasses for our "Cowboy Action Shooting" competitions.  They each have a small pocket on the inside for our earplugs, and are made from adorable cowboy hat fabric - I LOVE THEM!!

Now the fabric!  She and I both love owls, and we sent each other the same owl fabric. LOL!!  But that is a great thing, because my DD grabbed Jennifer's owl fabric and demanded me to make her something from it, but I'd only kept like a half yard for myself, so this turned out PERFECT - now I have enough to make her a cute bag!  And the western fabrics are perfect - love those cowboys.   The blue with flowers is very pretty!  Honestly, it's all totally ME.

Here are the supplies!  Jennifer sent exactly what I asked for - tote bag handle yardage.  I totally forget it's real name - in just the right colors too - thanks sooo much.  And there is a really nice seam ripper, piping, and magnetic snaps for all the purses and totes I make!

Here is my book:  A Quilting book since I'm trying to learn that.  And it seems to be very NOT fussy - just my style.

And the totally unexpected extras:  A great 50's themed journal with pen (you didn't know I'm a coffee addict!), an easter candy I just devoured, SHARPIES -- another thing you didn't know - I'm a Sharpie freak and I have never seen an industrial Sharpie before - so cool.  Then, from mywists a dishtowel hanger, so now my wet dishtowels have a home!!

Jennifer, this was all so perfect, and I thank you so much.  You were a great partner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10  Re: How do you organize your stash? in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by southernstitcher on: February 12, 2010 09:56:30 AM

Here is mine, and I hate it like this.  I think what I hate the most is having these two shelving units crammed into this tiny 10x10 room.  It's mostly for garments except the top shelf.   I roll it and the shelves need to be deep.
I'm looking for a closet system so it can all go in there with minimal hanging space.  I have finally convinced my husband to get rid of some old clothes so I don't need as much hanging room in there now.
The man occupies a reach in and a walk in closet in the master bedroom.  I have one reach in, and the sewing room closet.  I would LOVE to get my hands on that walk in closet for my sewing stuff, but he officiates both football and basket ball and does competition shooting, so it's crammed with all that.
