1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Mat. Leave and crafting on: April 20, 2009 01:05:35 PM
I have a question for you crafty business owners:
I'm in the process of setting up my own business.  I'm going on mat. leave in a few short weeks and was hoping to have some of the "business" stuff done so I can concentrate on crafting in my "spare" time ( ha Wink! ).  Anywho, while on mat. leave, I'll be getting EI payments.

Now, my question, if I made any profit from my business while one EI, do I have to claim that as income or can I do something like this on the side without it interfering with my benefits?  Does anyone know how this works?  I do know that if I were to go and get a part time job, those earnings would be deducted dollar for dollar from my EI, but does it work the same if I'm considered self-employed and could potentially not make any profit?

I cant find too much info on the gov. site (btw, I'm Canadian) but I'm hoping maybe someone here has some light they can shed on the situation....

Thank y'all!
