1  COOKING / Dessert / Baked Cheesecake on: October 23, 2010 08:12:06 AM
Something I had never had before or even thought sounded that appetizing, but my friend convinced me.

The recipe made soooo much! We had to go back out and buy mini crusts (ten!) and still had a little left over. We bought raspberries to top it with.

2  COOKING / Dessert / Brown Sugar Cake(?) on: October 23, 2010 08:10:15 AM
My friend just got her dream job in New Orleans so I made her a cake!

The cake part itself was titled "Plain Layer Cake" with whipped vanilla frosting (tinted yellow) and a lemon filling.

I found the recipe for this cake in an old cookbook I got from my mom. It's from 1968 and all the recipes call for brown sugar rather than regular white sugar. Does anyone know why that is? Was only using brown sugar a weird health thing back then?

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / my first PAIR of socks!! on: October 23, 2010 07:53:21 AM
I've knitted one sock before, but never made its pair...maybe someday I'll finish it...

I tend to make my socks a little long, hence why one sock has a different colored toe :]

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / lionnnnn stencil. on: August 12, 2009 06:14:07 PM
I decided to stencil a shirt for my friend because he's always sending me neat little packages and I've been lacking in my replies. I got the shirt at Walmart and found the stencil on www.stencilry.org -fabulous site.

yay for crappy webcame photos :[

crappy close up of lion; i splattered black and yellow pain -and purposefully smeared the black- over it, the lion was lonely.

and my friend wearing it :]. He loves it, I'm so happy ^_^

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / i'm easily distracted when cleaning... on: June 13, 2009 08:20:18 PM
by all my junk!

I was cleaning my bookshelf, stumbled across these babies and [insert insta-inspiration] voila! I cast aside my swiffer dusting thing, bucket of soapy water and sponge and skipped off to my pants.

I couldn't decide which showed 'em off best.

I simply squeezed some acrylic medium in (I found it works best if you do this part first), added acrylic paint and pounded, directed, swished it to the desired effect. Affect?

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / tan sweaters are a no-no. on: June 13, 2009 03:13:43 PM
My aunt gave me his rather hideous tan sweater for Christmas recently. After sitting in my drawer for ages I became "inspired". Ya know.

Before:

After:

I used an old tie for the strap.

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / wild thing. on: June 12, 2009 06:02:17 PM
I hand dyed the red/pink shirt ages ago (it was supposed to be red, I swear) and one day, silly me, was finger painting, wiped paint-y hands on paint shirt and guess what? The paint bled through. So then I had blue paint on my pretty, hand dyed shirt. Fuck.

Enter Where the Wild Things Are. I lovedlovedloved this shirt when I first got, even as it slowly shrunk and barely could cover my tummy. You can see where this is going.

I cut out the graphic from my Wild thing tee, sewed it to my red/pink shirt, covering the paint, used my new fave stitch, added a few buttons (one of which needs to be moved...) and voila!

detail shot:

I have to start sewing more because once I move into my apartment and am on my own, I won't have as much money to spend on clothes :[
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Because I live in Michigan on: February 21, 2009 05:41:13 PM
and it's a common occurrence to be stuck in your house from snow (I've decided there's conspiracy, it only snows heavily on the weekends these days, wtf!?), I decided to spend my afternoon wisely...after crying over P.S. I Love You  Wink

Anyway, using patterns from the book 108 something-or-other t-shirt something, something I reconstructed three of my former favorite t-shirts.

Une.

(front)

(back)

(on me!)

I cut out the neckline and a strip from the bottom; accidentally cut through both sides when I was only supposed to cut the front; laced fabric from bottom through to create rouched effect (quick summary, sorry). I tried doing the same rouch thing to the back but it looked stupid, so I'm just going to leave it be.

Deux.

Standard off-the-shoulder shirt; cut off neckline and part of the sleeves...a cover up for a mistake on a previous reconstruction project  Embarrassed

Trois.

(excuse the dumb face  Tongue)

Cut out the neckline, sleeves and through the shoulder seams; punched holes around shoulder & neckline; laced shoelaces through.

Voila! What do you think?

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Mix tape suggestions please! on: January 26, 2009 07:37:28 AM
My boy and I have an interesting relationship. We haven't been together for long, but we don't call each other boyfriend/girlfriend. Our...thing is exclusive, but nothing formal (it's wonderful :]). I always make mix cds for birthdays, holidays, etc. I've entertained the idea of making an old school mix tape before, but have never done it. This V-day, I want to step it up a notch. But I'm limited because we haven't used the "L word" yet, so please take that into consideration.

So, any kick ass songs you think should be included?

*no country, stick to more rock/alternative/indie stuff, please :]

Thank you!  Smiley
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / sometimes i get a little carried away with my machine [suggestions plz] on: January 04, 2009 10:06:19 PM
Well, I have to first thank everyone for inspiring me enough to finally get my butt in gear! Half of what I did on this shirt I tried before but cast the project aside; I wasn't sure how it would work originally. I'll probably try it again since i was quite successful on this one.

original shirt:

I really like the color but it looks awful on me. The sleeves are too short, for one thing, and it fit odd. So, I hack off the sleeves, added some elastic and fabric on the bottom (it was also too short).

Voila!:

On one of the sleeves, the hem was too high compared to the other. In a sudden strike of crafty problem solving-ness, I decided to just go over it again and let it be wild. So, I did the same to the other sleeve, the neckline and the bottom. I added some black fabric from a shirt so it look better.

Close up of crazy stitching:
I basically just let the sewing maching go and redirected it when it started to get a little out of hand.

On me: (ignore the terribly messy mirror and green tank top..)

you can see the stitching better in this one...

Last bit of rambling: I think the shirt needs something more, any suggestions?
