1  Tibten Prayer Flag recons from old t- shirt in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by colorxmexstupid7 on: May 01, 2009 05:12:54 PM
Okay, so I am getting more and more embarrassed by my posts on craftster because I realized that everything I put up is some hippy-dippy shit that makes me look like an LSD pusher.

But, I digress:

I love Tibten prayer flags, but I'm sort of broke, so I reconed these from old busted-ass t-shirts.

(They are hangin inside right now, because I won't be in my house till august.)

this next one is special....I am a big Janis Joplin fan, and these are prayer flags,so I included theses lyrics from "mercedez benz"

I mean, as far as my alchy ass is concerned, this is all the praying I'ma ever need to do:

P.s.
So, I don't go to Michigan State. This is my boyfriends room: ergo his wallpaper.
Although it doesn't matter, I'm a Bronco- not a Spartan. : )

2  Peter max inspired desk recon. in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by colorxmexstupid7 on: April 30, 2009 06:13:08 PM
P.s. No tracing done at all on these bitches! I am actually sort of proud of that....

If you don't know who he is, Peter max is a pop artist.

His art "style" was copied by makers of the Yellow Submarine film, and he inspired many trippy poster, or so I am told by my mother, who says she had one.
In the fall of 2007, I got to meet him at a gallery and I pretty much fell in love with him and his art.
I also, recently, came into possession of this ugly wooden desk that had been mauled by a sharpie,  and I couldn't get it off, so I decided to paint it and  theme it after Peter Max and his art.

And the submarine....

This is one of the sides,(the other one looks even worse):

As always, comments and criticism appreciated.

3  Going "Furthur"... a trippy end table. * Camera Obese.* sorry sorry sorry in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by colorxmexstupid7 on: April 29, 2009 09:38:55 PM
In a nutshell, my boyfriend and I will be living together in August, and I want our house to be awesome.
So, I've been working hard painting our furniture to be awesome.

I'm a big hippy, and I'm super inspired by Ken Kesey and all of his Merry Pranksters- I tried to channel them with this table.

I would appreciate any feedback you have.

Sorry about the quality of the photos.

Have a nice day....

This is the top of the table. It's got tons of stuff hidden in, as well as a bunch of groovy quotes.

Hidden stuff?? Why look, it's a little deady skull

Here is one of the sides, it says "Come Together."

The "love child" side.

& who doesn't love Bob marley?

"Furthur!"

4  Janis Joplin Vest Pattern in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by colorxmexstupid7 on: March 19, 2009 06:14:39 AM
I adore Janis Joplin, but I truley adore this vest.

I've found a few pictures of her in it, but I can't find the pattern anywhere.

Does anyone know of a similiar pattern?
Or, Should I just try to make it up?
Also....is it even crochet?
I think it is, you know, or I would have posted it otherwise, but is it?
& also, if I do figure it out...what color is it even supposed to be? ( B&w photography is awesome, except at times like this.)

I would appreciate any insight into this issue.
thanks.

5  Ringmaster/ Grenade "Tough Love" Jacket Recon- camera skank warning. in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by colorxmexstupid7 on: March 12, 2009 05:41:15 PM
(Preface- I need to say something in my own defense before I launch into the actual project.

1. I am In college- I have access to almost nothing. No sewing machine, no craft room- nothing. I live in a dorm room, and hardly have a car. So, please take into account that I have:
a. No sewing machine.- I know my sewing can be sloppy but it's by hand. Give me a  break.
b. hardly any resources to make stuff.
2. It's a recession- So....I can't, you know, get more resources. 'cuz I'm broke.)
( Oh...and Props go out to my model, who is also my boyfriend. Thanks for posing.)

So, I would appreciate any feeback/constructive criticism anyone has, but please understand that I don't have a sewing machine.

Okay, the Jacket:
This was one ugly thing before I found it( the befo' pic is at the very bottom.)
Anyway, a friend of mine was kind enough to give it to me, so I tore it up and made it into this:

The Front:

The Grenade was based off of a picture of a grenade I found on the interweb. The detailing was done in the bright blue of an old drama club t-shirt.

Seriously: I told you it was old-man-tastic. It even has those old man pocket for pip tobacco and a monocle inside.

6  "Santeria" by sublime inspired recon in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by colorxmexstupid7 on: March 09, 2009 02:19:14 PM
From what I can tell, Sublime gets an incredibly little amount of love on the Craftster forms... So I decided to recon an old plaid man's shirt to fit in with one of their best songs.

Some of the lyrics of Santeria are:
"Tell sanchito that if he knows what is good for him he best go run and hide.
Daddys got a new .45.
And I wont think twice to stick that barrel straight down sanchos throat.
Believe me when I say that I got somethin for his punk ass."

So, here is the back:

& then:

I stenciled the gun and it turned out fine, but I never should have done the lettering the way I did, I hate it. : (

To compensate, I added some things to the front with a contrasting plaid, there is one of these on each shoulder.

& in the front:

I think plaid is hilarious, so I wanted the whole thing to have some rugged lumberjack look- I think it turned out alright in the end.

7  "One Movie"Summer Hat- With Pattern in Knitting: Completed Projects by colorxmexstupid7 on: March 08, 2009 11:45:06 AM
The boyfriend is a super nerd, and dragged me out to go see Watchmen 3 times this weekend.
Three- and I've read the graphic novel.

So, on the third showing I brought along some knitting, just to occupy my hands.
Before it was finished I'd pumped out this:

I've been working on making an openwork hat for the summer, since my current one is hot as hell.
Just thought I'd include the pattern for anyone else who is looking for a nice openwork hat.

It's really, really simple, so more advanced knitters, please don't scoff. I know my "mad skillz" are a little sup-par on this one.

One Quick Note:
I like my hats to have a little "give" or slouch. I'm not really into hats that squash mah hair, so this hat has a little room built in. If you prefer more slouch just make the "body" of the hat longer before you start making the decreases, but keep in mind that the decreases add some length too.

You don't want to end up with some ginormous Dr. Seuss creation.

What You Need:
-Size 7 DPN's. (I always use 3 instead of 4)
- Chunky Weight Yarn-One ball, or as many colors as you like.

Gauge:
(3-3.75 sts/inch)

What to do:
1.Cast on 18 stitches between each DPN.
2-5.Make 4 rows of 4x2 ribbing.
6. * YO, K2tg
7. * Knit each stitch

Really- when I said simple I meant it. That is all you do until you decrease.
I made mine 5 inches before I decreased it.

Decreases:
1. *Knit 5, K2tg
2. *Knit row
3. * Knit 4, K2tg
4. *knit row
5. * Knit 3, K2tg
6. * Knit row
7. * Knit 2, K2tg
8. * Knit row
9. * Knit 1, K2tg
10. * Knit k2tg
11. Bind off.

happy knits

8  Prom Dress- Remade from Ugly Corset- Pic Heavy. : ) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by colorxmexstupid7 on: February 25, 2009 08:15:00 AM
I can't take full credit for this because my mother helped me with this a whole bunch.
The dress was originally a corset- but a really ugly one. It was some awful shade of light pink, way way way too big, and had stains all over it.
So, we re sized it, gave it a skirt,& sewed a bunch of nick-nacks all over it.

It's really campy and goofy, but I wanted it to be.

The whole dress:

again, at a different angle:

Me and My date- also, a shot of the bow in the back

A close up:

The head dress:

thanks for looking!

P.s.
Ahhhh! Thank you for all the feedback! I figured that I would elaborate on this post by showing more of the jacket my date had on.
Once again, I can not claim full credit for how this turned out, since it was a joint effort between me and him.
I would like to add that I am sorry there aren't more pictures of his coat, since the back was very cool.

My date's DIY Jacket:

& the grand finale? Pre-Prom dance pics- because we actually choreographed a dance like losers.

Boys are hard to craft for.

My boyfriend is very into D & D and other role play systems- so, for a gift I made him a few miniature versions of some of the races, and well as a mini version of him.

All of these are based on patterns from the "Creepy Cute Crochet" book.

The Half-Ling.

10  Alice in Wonderland Guitar in Completed Projects by colorxmexstupid7 on: February 24, 2009 03:35:30 PM
I got this guitar for free, and though it needed an overhaul.
So, I themed it after Alice in Wonderland, which is my favorite story.
The guitar hasn't been colored all the way yet, but I'm almost done.
I wanted the whole thing to feel "trippy" so I just sort of free handed it.
