1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / CALLING FIBER ADDICTS! Spinners in sherman oaks/los angeles/santa monica? on: June 01, 2011 12:54:19 AM
im sorry mods if this was the wrong place but i figured "discussions about spinning" was appropriate.

is the anyone is sherman oaks/santa monica/los angeles who spins? who might want to get together? maybe even start a spinning/knitting/crochet circle? d love to meet some crafty people in the area and spin with some others. i taught myself how to spin and i sure i do it completely wrong (or different as i like to call it). i thought maybe a spinning circle would be fun to trade tips and tricks, drink some tea and just have some fun with other fiber addicts!

3  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / what color should i use for the back???? please help! on: January 28, 2011 02:01:53 PM
so this is my first quilt and i dont know what i should do for the back! the pattern is from the spring issue of "STITCH" and i feel like the patchwork back suggested will just be too busy. i did alter the pattern and make the border 1 1/2" larger than suggested and just used scraps from my stash to make the whole thing. im just not sure what color would be best. and should i do a small print or something? i figure in order to pull the backing into the front design ill just add another border around the patchwork one. what do you think? all suggestions, comments, and critisism welcome!

4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / more hand carved stamps...comics crafting and keys! on: January 13, 2011 11:00:54 PM
so here are some more of my attempts at stamp carving.

first a vintage-esque sewing machine. i love it so much. about 2"x3" out of giant eraser.

scissors. i think i could have done better but since its a little bigger than an inch, i thnk i did alright i did just start carving anyways =]

skeleton key. i just liked it. i think this is the worst one ive done though. somehow wonder womans face was easier than symmetrical details on this

another smaller wonder woman. i love it.

and of course, pow!

heres the bunch!

and including my first two! all o my stamps!
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / russian dolls and cupcakes... yes please!!! (bag and wallet) on: January 09, 2011 04:01:25 AM
so i havent posted stuff i have made (other than in swaps) for a while so here are two things i whipped up two nights ago. i recently became obsessed with those cute little russian doll prints but having no fabric of that sort at my disposal i used some wonder under (first time playing with it) and random fabrics from my stash to make a new purse. i was too lazy to use interfacing too but i wanted a nice drapey bag this time so its cool.i love the result

my own pattern, meant to be sloped up on one side, has a zipper packet  on the outside back and an open pocket on the inside (forgot to take pistures of but ill add them) fully lined and edged with a decorative blanket-like stitch.

now the cupcakes

i picked up a remnant of awesome cupcake fabric for about $2 please random scraps from my stash. i looked at it the other night and said "you are going to be my new wallet!" and then it was

snap closure tap (covered with a decorative button), one side: 2 full length pockets for cash etcs and zipper change pocket, other side: one full length pocket plus 5 card slots and id viewer pocket, with a strap with snap to keep those cards inside. cardboard inserts and interfacing to keep it stiff

ps please excuse lint and cat hair! =]

thanks a bunch for looking!

c&c always welcome!
6  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Wonder Woman Stamps (first stamp carvings!!!) on: January 09, 2011 03:49:53 AM
so i received stamp carving supplies in a swap recently which is great because ive been wanting to try it and what better thing to try carving than wonder woman?!?!?

first (which was actually the second stamp i carved) is an image of her, traced from a comic and transfered using tracing paper, which i found out gets kind of blurring after a bit of carving haha. this one was made from a speedball block and is about 3" x 4"

i love how it turned out. im so excited im going to be stamping everything haha

please excuse the messy-ness of it, again, first time carving stamps

then the first stamp i carved, i just drew right on the eraser freehand and then went at it. this one is from a giant eraser, about 1.5" x .75" i still need to clean up the edges. i was to impatient to find my lost craft knife

comments criticism and tips are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

sorry for bad photos, i have to use a camera phone for now =[

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / classic universal moster movie swap? on: August 30, 2010 07:20:50 PM
is there anyone else out there as in love with the classic universal monsters as i am? how about a swap dedicated to them? i thinkn it would be fabulous to get some frankie or creature of the black lagoon goodies! AND IT WOULD BE THE PERFECT TIME OF YEAR FOR IT TOO!

basically id be thinking frankenstien, dracula, mummy, bride of frankenstien, creature from the black lagoon, the wolf man, invisible man, and phantom of the opera

we could always grandfather a few more in but those would be the man guys.

anyone?
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Butterfly dress, vintage inspired swim attire and booty shorts - OH MY!!! on: August 21, 2010 03:59:11 AM
so i have been forgetting to take pictures of some of the recent stuff i have made and finally i went on a picture rampage...aka i get dressed and say " hunny bunny could you take pictures of me?"

pictures also make me very uncomfortable when i am the only one in the shot so i apologize for the funny faces!

first the butterfly dress. i found some awesome debbie mumm fabric that reminded me of clothes from when i was a kid. so with some whimsy i came up with this. the giant bow is actually sewn into the seam (yay for no falling corners!) there are also pleats around the entire skirt (i burnt myself three times with the iron) and fully lined

BACK (there isnt actually a ripple in the zipper it was just the way i was standing i promise)

i love the pictures of girls in high waisted shorts and tops at the beach so i took some inspiration from that a came up with some beach attire. the top fits really nicely but looks like it has a bit of a gap in the picture. just the angle (i disrupted the hubby while he was laying down reading)

now the booty shorts. i didnt make the pattern for these. i used the free one from Collete Patterns. i like it enough to use it again but i had a few mini complaints. there was one seam that didnt match correctly by about an inch, but it was easily fixed. i will definetely use it again since they do turn out supper cute (though if you are uncomfortable about the largeness of your derier you probably shouldnt make these, as you can see from the increase in my already large rear end)

comments and critism always welcome!

thanks for looking
