1  Re: Fiber Friday may 20th, 2011 in Spinning: Completed Projects by brielauren on: May 21, 2011 12:48:46 AM
here is my first ever fiber friday! i got my spindle about 2 weeks ago and then got some fiber from http://www.etsy.com/shop/FiberFancy and gosh is it gorgeous! its a 19micron merino and its so soft! its a little thick and thin which is not a decision but rather just my troubles with drafting. still a little hard to get it even but i think it works for this yarn. sorry for the photo overload! im just excited! its still on the niddy noddy because i havent set the twist

and http://www.etsy.com/transaction/49869375 is the original roving

4  what color should i use for the back???? please help! in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by brielauren on: January 28, 2011 02:01:53 PM
so this is my first quilt and i dont know what i should do for the back! the pattern is from the spring issue of "STITCH" and i feel like the patchwork back suggested will just be too busy. i did alter the pattern and make the border 1 1/2" larger than suggested and just used scraps from my stash to make the whole thing. im just not sure what color would be best. and should i do a small print or something? i figure in order to pull the backing into the front design ill just add another border around the patchwork one. what do you think? all suggestions, comments, and critisism welcome!

6  more hand carved stamps...comics crafting and keys! in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by brielauren on: January 13, 2011 11:00:54 PM
so here are some more of my attempts at stamp carving.

first a vintage-esque sewing machine. i love it so much. about 2"x3" out of giant eraser.

scissors. i think i could have done better but since its a little bigger than an inch, i thnk i did alright i did just start carving anyways =]

skeleton key. i just liked it. i think this is the worst one ive done though. somehow wonder womans face was easier than symmetrical details on this

another smaller wonder woman. i love it.

and of course, pow!

heres the bunch!

and including my first two! all o my stamps!

7  russian dolls and cupcakes... yes please!!! (bag and wallet) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by brielauren on: January 09, 2011 04:01:25 AM
so i havent posted stuff i have made (other than in swaps) for a while so here are two things i whipped up two nights ago. i recently became obsessed with those cute little russian doll prints but having no fabric of that sort at my disposal i used some wonder under (first time playing with it) and random fabrics from my stash to make a new purse. i was too lazy to use interfacing too but i wanted a nice drapey bag this time so its cool.i love the result

my own pattern, meant to be sloped up on one side, has a zipper packet  on the outside back and an open pocket on the inside (forgot to take pistures of but ill add them) fully lined and edged with a decorative blanket-like stitch.

now the cupcakes

i picked up a remnant of awesome cupcake fabric for about $2 please random scraps from my stash. i looked at it the other night and said "you are going to be my new wallet!" and then it was

snap closure tap (covered with a decorative button), one side: 2 full length pockets for cash etcs and zipper change pocket, other side: one full length pocket plus 5 card slots and id viewer pocket, with a strap with snap to keep those cards inside. cardboard inserts and interfacing to keep it stiff

ps please excuse lint and cat hair! =]

thanks a bunch for looking!

c&c always welcome!

8  Wonder Woman Stamps (first stamp carvings!!!) in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by brielauren on: January 09, 2011 03:49:53 AM
so i received stamp carving supplies in a swap recently which is great because ive been wanting to try it and what better thing to try carving than wonder woman?!?!?

first (which was actually the second stamp i carved) is an image of her, traced from a comic and transfered using tracing paper, which i found out gets kind of blurring after a bit of carving haha. this one was made from a speedball block and is about 3" x 4"

i love how it turned out. im so excited im going to be stamping everything haha

please excuse the messy-ness of it, again, first time carving stamps

then the first stamp i carved, i just drew right on the eraser freehand and then went at it. this one is from a giant eraser, about 1.5" x .75" i still need to clean up the edges. i was to impatient to find my lost craft knife

comments criticism and tips are greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

sorry for bad photos, i have to use a camera phone for now =[

R is for Resin to get me started. ive wanted to try resin for a while and my goodness it was so exciting to se this. though some seeped out of the bottles, it didnt completely harden and ive already cleaned off the bottles. it also didnt get on anything else thanks to plastic baggies!

I is for inspirational carving tools. i also happened to mention that i picked up a stamp carving block but not the carving tools and somehow tada! they were in my package haha there was even a gigantic eraser to carve with!!!!

A is for Awesome Aquatic koi fish box. my goodness this is gorgeous. i wish i could photograph it better so you can see the incredible detail in it. i love it so much and the koi fish happens to have a special meaning to me. (i also have a tattoo of one on my hip/leg/back)

N is for Necklace featuring a tree of life. this is beautiful and just my style

N is for Nifty sweater guard, also in my favorite colors! I love sweater guards and love this one! defintetely a love addition to my collection and i already know whihc sweater im wearing it with tomorrow haha
