1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / What are your Halloween costume plans for 2014? on: September 11, 2014 08:04:46 PM
I'd love to hear about what everyone is working on for Halloween 2014 costumes!

Since I've recently confirmed that I DO have Halloween activities to attend (perhaps even 2 sets of them), it means I get to make costume plans! Here's my possibilities so far:
- Ursula, the Sea Witch (with a skirt that brings to mind tentacles though, rather than actual tentacles)
- The Riddler, done up femme
- Selina Kyle a la The Dark Knight Rises
-  the Masque of the Red Death (the Phantom of the Opera's costume of Poe's short story... done femme as well. Like http://mina-d.deviantart.com/art/Costume-of-the-Red-Death-female-286128986 plus http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=413813.0#axzz3D476xL2Q)
- Vincent Van Gogh, with my sister as Salvador Dali (if we end up doing something together)

What are YOUR costume plans?

6  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Pinback buttons on: January 19, 2013 05:10:32 PM
I have a pretty large collection of awesome pinback buttons (some vintage, some of bands I love or have loved, anything that has to do with my hometown or school). .  . but they sit in a ziplock bag in a drawer. Any idea of how I can show these off to their fullest potential?

Thanks!
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / International Christmas Dinner Party - Planning Thread on: November 08, 2012 09:12:17 AM
I have an annual, themed Christmas dinner party (last themes: Classy, Creepy, Glam, Kitschy, and Candyland). This year, it's going to be "A Very International Christmas!" Likely there will be about 10-12 guests, all in their 20s.

In past Christmases, I had made a meat dish (ham or roast beef usually), a potato dish (usually mashed), and one "custom drink" and asked guests to fill in the rest, based on my organized list. Smiley I'm going to pull back a bit this year and just ask guests to pick a COUNTRY and a COURSE - and hope it all goes well (and I'll encourage everyone to be creative with countries and not choose the same ones as each other). Most of my friends are adventurous eaters.

I'll do a drink (Gluhwein, German hot mulled wine), and I think I'm doing Champ (like extra buttery mashed potatoes with green onions from Ireland), and some other main-ish course. Suggestions welcome, though I won't do Italy because I know a few of my guests will probably want to!

There will be a game of basically match the country to the custom (kind of silly, but should be fun). And probably a $5 or $10 random gift exchange, though I'm not sure if that should also be international themed.

I'm not sure of my colours or decor yet. I'm thinking I'll need some international flags somewhere (toothpicks? a bunting-type thing?), and maybe different areas with different themed things - like Chinese lanterns or Mexican luminarias. Though I don't have a huge home. . . hm. I've got a Pinterest board going: http://pinterest.com/psyche13/international-christmas/

But does anyone have any suggestions for decor, or anything else?

8  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Black & (Faux) Fur Aviator Cap on: October 23, 2011 07:48:49 PM
I made this aviator hat for the Apocalyptic Fashion swap. I don't have much hat-making experience (in fact, I made 2 other versions of this before I got the sizing right. . . ), but I was really pleased with how this turned out!

I used some stiff black canvas-y material I found in remnants, white faux fur for the ears and front section, and the strap and D-Rings. I used this basic tutorial, at least roughly (basically, I looked at the picture of how the pieces were cut, and then just went for it! http://cristophine.deviantart.com/art/Aviator-Cap-Tutorial-84150949

One action shot before I got it out in the mail. And yes, all of these photos were taken in my car.

9  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Reading Swap - ANGEL FOUND on: June 10, 2011 06:01:06 AM
Angel found already! Thanks, Confuzzle.

I need one angel for the Reading Swap - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=373245.0.  What you would need to send is 2 books (used is fine!), plus 3 "small" crafted items. Check out the gallery to see how people did (yes, some partners decided to send more than the requirements!). http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=375190.0

We need an angel for rantyhippie. Here is a portion of her questionnaire:

Do you have any allergies, aversions, or sensitivities that would affect what you could receive in this swap?: no

What are your favourite genres?: romance, mystery, science fiction
What are your favourite authors?: charlaine harris, stephen king, neil gaiman, catherine coulter, christine feehan, jane feather, jk rowling
Are there any specific books you want to receive?: nothing comes to mind. I really love romance novels though. A few of those would be nice. I like the bodice rippers set in europe from the middle ages to the victorian times, and also the cowboy romance novels.
What are your least favourite genres?: horror (confusing cause I said I like Stephen King, but I consider him to be more of a mystery/science fiction author than a horror author
What are your least favourite authors?: i never met an author or a book I didnt like.

What sort of book-related crafts would you like?: reading lights, eyeglass holders, book covers
What are your favourite: colours, themes, or books you would like crafts themed around?: purple, polka dots, animal prints, maybe something that says "Fuck off! I'm trying to read!"
Is there anything you don't want to receive? bookmarks (I have a million of these)
Do you have a Wists or other wishlist? wists.com/rantyhippie

Please PM me (psyche) if you are interested!

I'm sorry Google Chrome, are you subliminally trying to insert the word "hanky" into my head? If so, be a bit more subtle. I actually laughed out loud when I saw this.
