3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Chalkboard Frames - Help? on: August 14, 2016 02:21:18 PM
Hello all! I ended up with some glorious, ornate vintage frames that I plan to turn into chalkboard-style signs. These suckers are also huge! Almost 5 feet long and 3 feet wide, or so.

They're going to be wedding decor first and foremost though I'm still not 100% sure what I will use them all for - seating chart, bar/beer list, menu, welcome, schedule... but I have plans on how they'll look.

I plan to paint them gold (or at least the two that had been painted before - I'll probably leave the original in the middle), and then use this great tutorial to make the signs:  http://imgur.com/a/s6sCJ, however, I hit a snag. These are empty frames, so I have nothing to paint with chalkboard paint.

Any ideas of what I could use to fill the space, that won't break the bank (keeping in mind these frames are huge)? Plywood? Cardboard somehow?

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / A (General) Halloween Swap on: August 05, 2016 12:13:23 PM
I know there's a vintage Halloween swap in the works, and I don't want to take away from that, but what about a general Halloween swap?

I'd be thinking about a month of crafting, signups at the end of August, sendouts near the end of September. Not too big: maybe a medium, a small, and a trick OR a treat. Wink

Anyone interested?
5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / What are your Halloween costume plans for 2014? on: September 11, 2014 08:04:46 PM
I'd love to hear about what everyone is working on for Halloween 2014 costumes!

Since I've recently confirmed that I DO have Halloween activities to attend (perhaps even 2 sets of them), it means I get to make costume plans! Here's my possibilities so far:
- Ursula, the Sea Witch (with a skirt that brings to mind tentacles though, rather than actual tentacles)
- The Riddler, done up femme
- Selina Kyle a la The Dark Knight Rises
-  the Masque of the Red Death (the Phantom of the Opera's costume of Poe's short story... done femme as well. Like http://mina-d.deviantart.com/art/Costume-of-the-Red-Death-female-286128986 plus http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=413813.0#axzz3D476xL2Q)
- Vincent Van Gogh, with my sister as Salvador Dali (if we end up doing something together)

What are YOUR costume plans?

It's another embroidery/cross stitch/multimedia/etc. hoopla swap! This time the theme is WORDS - WITH OR WITHOUT WORDS. The idea comes from a lovely chat in the discussion thread. Basically, you list at least 5 of your favourite words, quotes, or phrases, and your partner interprets in a hoopla design - with or without any actual words.

- Please only send your completed hoop. No extras.
- There are no hoop size requirements for this round
- Your hoop must fit the theme
- You may opt to have 2 partners. See notes below for more info.*
- Posting to the thread is required at least once every other week. Once the swap starts, I'll post a check-in question on alternate Fridays, so you can check-in by answering that if you'd like.
- Have fun!

*Selecting Two Partners
If you opt for having two partners then you will be paired up twice. This will require that you communicate, craft for and send a hoop to two different partners. See the example below...

10  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Pinback buttons on: January 19, 2013 05:10:32 PM
I have a pretty large collection of awesome pinback buttons (some vintage, some of bands I love or have loved, anything that has to do with my hometown or school). .  . but they sit in a ziplock bag in a drawer. Any idea of how I can show these off to their fullest potential?

Thanks!
