1101  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: I Have a Disease Round 4 (sign up Jul 12 - Aug 2) on: July 28, 2009 09:59:18 PM
faren, i almost feel retarded to admit that i have honestly never even thought of that. sometimes the most obvious solutions slip right past us! but maybe because i've worn a two piece my whole life. i get shots of steriods pumped into the scar (ouch!) and that's supposed to make it lighter and not raised, but it hasn't helped yet. the scar goes from my belly button allllllll the way down. the doctor said when he cut it out it was bigger than a football, he was shocked, i was too! he also said my lungs, stomach, and all my insides were pushed up into my ribs. no wonder i've had an extra hard time breathing lately! i just thought my asthma was getting worse!

so i forgot that i have ovaries that love to produce cysts. how does somebody forget that? probably because i try so hard not to think about it. i didn't even know i had a problem till i got in a car crash and they did a cat scan of my belly, they told me i had a cyst that i should get checked out. so i went to the gyno and it turns out i had a 6x7 INCH cyst on my left ovary. now this is big, but it's even bigger considering i'm only 90 pounds. so i had surgery to remove it along with my left ovary/philopian tube. i now have an icky 8 inch scar down my stomach. i look like i had an emergency c-section. so as much as i love summer i am glad that it's almost over, i am tired of people asking me to go swimming and me having to decline because i am ashamed of my scar.  Sad i hope i will get used to it but this was my first summer having it. no fun!

I don't think anyone should shy away from this swap because they're not "sick enough". For one, I think most people tend to underestimate the severity of their own disease. I meet sick people all day and the ones with serious chronic diseases are usually the sweetest ones.

I wouldn't mind partnering up with someone with trichotillomania, and I know it can be a real tough disease to cope with, especially when you're young. I bet there are tons of crafty things that could help you...

That's just the thing. We are experts on our own diseases, but it can be a real eye opener to get a glimpse of what others go through and try to make them happy by crafting awesome stuff Smiley

i guess i never look at it this way! but i think i'm going to join just so i can do my best to make someone else feel better!! it's always wonderful when someone else tries to step into your shoes and help.
1110  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / help with pattern on: July 27, 2009 01:15:36 PM
the pattern says:

"you need to either change your printer settings to have the pattern exactly as it was intended to be used, or if you don't know the printer you're working with that well you can select "scale to media" in the printer options. THEN YOU WILL NEED TO ADD 1/2 INCH SEAM ALLOWANCE TO ALL SIDES WHEN YOU ARE CUTTING YOUR FABRIC!!"

does this mean i only add 1/2 inch if i can't get it to print right or NO MATTER WHAT i add seam allowance?

sorry if this is a dumb question and thanks for the help!
