1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: What is the name of this fabric? on: June 11, 2013 02:15:06 PM
I think I've solved it. After several long attempts at googling, I think it's Batiste. It seems to fit the description anyway!

looks like it could be handkerchief linen...either natural or possibly polyester...mixed with ramie, maybe?

take a bit of it and hold it over a lighted candle flame...see if it burns or melts...melting would mean it is man-made of some sort...

The label says 100% cotton, I'm just trying to figure out the actual name of the type of cotton, because it's nothing like any of the 100% cotton in my local fabric shop. It's light and floaty but not too much, and perfect for summer.

Here are the pictures finally. The first with light behind it, the second flat with white fabric behind.

Thanks for the suggestions, and sorry for the delay in coming back to everyone. I don't think any of them are it though! I'll come back with a picture in a couple of hours.

I've had a look in the fabric shops that are easier for me to access but no luck so far. Nothing can compare to the soft floaty feeling of this fabric (it's not particularly sheer though).

I'm looking for some help on identifying the name of a specific type of fabric. I have done a lot of googling to no avail.

I have several skirts I want to replicate, and they all say 100% cotton, yet the fabric is so light and has such lovely drape it's not like the usual cotton I can get from my local fabric shops. It's not particularly sheer, and when it's used it seems to be in some sort of circle/half circle skirt, certainly one that uses a fair amount of fabric around. Could you suggest any fabrics that this could be, so I can go and buy some? Thanks!

Glad you loved everything becca, it was funny because I realized part way through the summer that I had bought patches everywhere and started to feel silly about having so many of them.  It seems to be what everyone has for souvenirs right now.

It's no problem! You don't see them much around here so it's something a bit different  Smiley

Here are the pictures from Monty's trip to Canada. It looks like he had a fantastic time and he brought back some lovely things!

First, the scrapbook.

Next, the souvenirs!

A really really pretty box, that took me a little while to figure out how to open!

Thank you kjlutz for being such an amazing partner and for looking after Monty so well!

Indeed thank you! My photos still haven't arrived! I should be able to send on the new send out date though! I hope.

Ah good I'm not the only one panicking! We did so much, now I have to sort through sooo many photos and choose ones to print and what to put in the scrap book (it would be huge if I put everything in!) and how to make it and I still have a few things I want to do with Ellie! Going to be a rush, but I should make it.

Ended up at the emergency room last night (don't worry nothing too bad) and it was funny because after waiting for 3 hours I think my biggest concern was that I had forgotten Monty so he missed out on the joys of waiting in emerg.

I'm glad it wasn't anything serious! I'm sure Monty wouldn't mind being forgotten on that occasion!
