Here's what I've been up to!

I finished knitting and blocking a scarf made from my handspun:

Finished spinning and n-plying this one... it's about 12-14 wpi.

And dyed some Polwarth, which is split up for fractal spinning:

*gasp* no Fiber Friday?? I guess everyone was busy "celebrating" 4/20, hm? Wink Kidding... haha.
Anyway, here's all I have... I will have some more finished stuff for next week, though!

100% merino wool
approx 60 yards
super bulky, 5-6 wpi

Spun it for the April birthday swap. Smiley

And some fiber I just dyed:

What should I name this?
100% fine merino wool, 21μ
4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / keep it simple cowl on: March 16, 2012 04:52:05 PM
So... I usually wear blacks and grays and figured it would be cool to add a bit of color to my wardrobe. I left my favorite scarf (which was black) in a bar a while ago so my neck has been cold all winter. It's almost spring, but the weather in the SF bay area is sometimes hot and sometimes cold. Right now it's raining, but about a week ago it was beautiful and warm outside. Anyway, I made a cowl! I'm really picky about what goes around my neck, and merino is just perfect. It keeps me warm and it doesn't feel suffocating, haha.

Started with 2oz of 100% superwash merino wool. Dyed red, gray, blue. Spun into singles, and then navajo/chain plied into a squishy bulky yarn. Knitted with size 15 (10mm) needles.

The bottom two photos are just for silliness. It would look pretty cool as a hat! Tongue

My dad is coming back with my camera today so I'll be able to retake the blurry pictures, which were from my phone.

5  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / softening bamboo after dyeing? on: February 24, 2012 05:31:09 PM
Hi, I've dyed some bamboo and banana silk rovings with Procion MX, and after they're dyed and rinsed they're much stiffer than when undyed. I have no idea of what is causing this... I'm thinking maybe it's the soda ash? I keep experimenting with less each time and it seems softer but I'm already putting way less in than recommended. Anyway, can anyone help me out? Please? Smiley
6  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / How to dye Bamboo rayon? on: April 30, 2010 05:44:44 PM
Hi everyone! I've been reading through the board and Googling my hands off but I'm still pretty unclear on how to dye 100% bamboo rayon. I just bought 8 oz and want to get to it! Anyone have advice/tips/instructions? I've read mixed reviews and instructions for Procion MX so I'm kind of confused! Just so you know what kind of experience I have, I've been dyeing merino and superwash merino by oven dyeing.

Edit: I forgot to ask for tips on dyeing different colors on one piece of bamboo roving, instead of just one solid color.

Thanks!
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / First Skeins :) on: March 07, 2010 08:54:04 PM
The practice skein.
100% merino wool. 1.1 oz, 19-2/3 yd.

I bought the roving for this one predyed.
100% merino wool. 4.2oz, 77-2/3yd.

This one I dyed myself! I love the slightly varying greens. It's super soft, I keep petting it, haha! Cheesy
100% superwash merino wool. 1.9oz, 33-2/3yd.
8  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / convertible scarf on: February 21, 2010 11:20:37 PM
Hello... Smiley This is my first topic! I've been crocheting for a couple of months now but didn't really think anything was worth posting. I've made a bunch of hats for my friends and family and a few amigurumi. Here's a scarf I made today. It's pretty simple and I just made it up while I was crocheting. It's super soft and cozy. Smiley I'm also starting to spin & dye yarn... The merino wool was dyed while it was roving and then I spun it. I always wondered, though, if there's a difference between dying the roving vs. dying the yarn after it's been spun?
