1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Mixing dye stock... on: August 28, 2012 12:50:29 PM
I'm going to assume you're already familiar with general dye stock solutions... i.e. 1% DOS = 1g dye poweder : 100ml water : 100g fiber. For handpainting, you're going to need to dilute it or it will go on extremely saturated, which is why you're getting so much bleeding. The hand painting stock should be diluted to about 1:5 dye stock to water, depending on how deep you want the colors. You should definitely do tests on small samples to get the feel of how much you like to dilute it.

Apparently my package got lost in the mail. Sad I'm working on a resend package, but maybe you'll get lucky and it will turn up! Here's what I sent, along with crochet booties and lacy fabrics for your sewing:

Blurry pictures since I didn't have my camera at the time and had to settle with my old old old 2mp camera phone.

I have yarn to remake these... should I? The surprise is ruined but I'm sure you would have loved these. I have one item done (different from these) for the new package and am now thinking about what to do next...

I wouldn't either, but I know a few spinners who have. I wouldn't want to do the fiber prep of washing and carding.

Thank you! Now I need to figure out what assignment I want to do next.. and not take ages on it again, lol.

Also, I'm listed under Ravenclaw but you can remove me from there! I was hoping to get sorted into Ravenclaw but got Gryffindor and I'm okay with that, haha.

I'd like to see another one! Smiley

Spinners usually go for a 1:1 ratio trade of fiber/yarn. For example, you send 2 pounds of fiber, they keep 1 for themselves and send you back 1 pound of yarn. If it's raw fleece, washing does have weight loss so the split would be for the weight after washing. I'm a spinner in the bay area, hint hint. Wink

I'm waiting (Impatiently... haha) for my package to arrive. Come on German post office!!

IS IT THERE YET???  Undecided

I haven't anything yet. I literally rush to the mailbox every day after work, but to no avail. Was there a tracking number by chance?

Hmmmph. I've sent to Germany before, it took 2-3 weeks. It's first class so there was only a customs number (I sent you via PM), I don't know if Germany post allows you to track it, but sometimes Canadian post does so maybe. From the US, the customs # just shows that it was sent and when it left the country.

There is a Wegner in my building, so I will go harass her/him/them to see if they got it by chance. My German is close to nil, so it may make for a good story...

It'll be a month next week so if you don't get it by then I'll get started on an "angel" package lol. Would you be willing to chip in for Priority mail? It has tracking and only takes 6-10 days. T~T
