I think I had already decided to dye my hair and was just trying to kid myself.
I did the deed on Friday in time for our town's annual Zombie Walk.
For those who haven't been with us before the commercial break, this is what my hair looked like before the dye:

Yup, that's a bleached blonde. My natural hair colour's a very dark brown.
And then,

And this is what it looks like after a few shampooings, complete with zombie makeup.

My hair looks brighter again now that I've reapplied the dye.

So about two years ago I had pink hair...

And a few months later I had red hair...

Then I went boring brown, then black...

When my natural hair colour was fairly grown out, I had it chopped off!

And bleached it. This is pretty much what it looks like now.


I'm out of work, and am dying (har har) to get back to a fun colour. My roommate has given me a bottle of blue dye that looks pretty awesome from the strand test. I just don't know if I have the guts!
I live in a neighbourhood where I'm not sure if I want to attract negative attention to myself... but what could go wrong if I already have brassy, bleachy hair, and eyebrow ring, and obviously "scenester" clothing?

Thoughts?

Anywhoo, here are the sets of earrings I made during my craftster's block. They're nothing much, but hey, they're scissors.

I feel silly now.

I thought I'd post what my hair looks like now.
It's been cut, then razored, then bleached, then dyed.
And I couldn't be happier.

I promised I'd take pictures... many months ago.
But for Christmas I got my very own digital camera!

I'm quite proud of my Pan-nymph couple costume idea.
I made all of it, too.
Horns: salt dough, glue, & tape
Panpipes: bamboo & that decorative straw stuff sold in bags at Wal-Mart
The Lower Half: CougarGrrl graciously provided me with instructions for this part. But me, being myself, followed *most* of it. Instead of platforms, I used plain ol' heels with the heel sawed off, and the long "pant" legs were pulled over the heel part and glued in place. The hooves were the toes of the shoe covered with plastic and a cleft drawn on with marker. I wish the hoof picture turned out... There's also a tail made from the nubby "leg" material, and long white faux fur underneath.
Ears: Same material as the "pants", but with light pink felt with the white fur on the inside (which you can't really see) for realism
Wings: vinyl, fake leaves, modified stuffed snake toy, ribbons, wire, jewels, etc. It would have been hilarious for me to see myself sewing the vinyl to the wire frame, balancing my sewing machine on my lap all the while.
Toga: strategically placed bracelet, neat-o cord, and well... a bedsheet. Sorry  

I had also pinned leaves in my hair for natural goodness.

Meet Marf.
Marf is a monster.
Marf is cute as all hell.
Marf is an MP3 player cozy!

I got inspired by the many monster-styled player cases and purses but decided that I wanted to do my own. So I grabbed some leftover velveteen, red silky fabric from a blouse, and got choppin'! Some white velcro for teeth, and googly eyes for, well, eyes, and whaddya know it's Marf!

Oh yeah, I got tired of all of the cosplay / anime ripoffs, and the wraparound summer dresses (not that they aren't cool in their own right), and I made a kimono. A traditional Japanese kimono. With the robe itself, obi, and obi-jime. I used the 4-rectangle pattern... which, in all honesty, isn't 4!... and I sewed it using my lovely royal blue floral jacquard. The obi is made from my dark rust paisley cotton. Hell, I even learned how to put it on right for the justice of honouring its tradition and for taking pictures of it without shaming either it or myself. Heh, having a boyfriend who's lived in Japan helps me understand these things. Would you like to see pictures?
