1  Steampunk Parasol in Completed Projects by Zeenobia on: August 09, 2012 04:46:36 PM
Hello, all!  I'm getting ready for Dragon*Con, and decided I needed a parasol to go with my Steampunk costume.  I was inspired by the Alexia Tarabotti novels.

I took a paper parasol, spray painted it brown and stenciled some designs in gold.  Then I added an old candlestick as a handle, made a keypad on the upper handle, added some old lamp parts, and added some "aether crystals" to power it!

2  Worthy charity in Crochet: Completed Projects by Zeenobia on: January 16, 2011 07:15:26 PM
I just wanted to share with my fellow crocheters a charity that I make hats for.  Warmth for Warriors, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation, was formed to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by our soldiers and their families.  You might not realize it, but it's cold in the mountains of Afghanistan!  Just crochet (or knit) hats and mail them to the lovely ladies who run this organization.  They take care of getting them to the troops who need the warmth and the reminder that we remember them here in the states.
Please visit them at http://warmthforwarriors.com/

3  Make a duck...or something... in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Zeenobia on: January 15, 2011 09:16:50 PM
My mom asked me to make a stuffed animal for a baby shower she's going to attend.  I asked what she wanted.  "Whatever...make a duck...or something..."  So this is what she got!

Used the basic body I use for all amigurimi, then was inspired by patterns I found online for ducks.  Hope the baby likes it!

( Now I realize that with the blue shirt, it looks like Donald...)

4  First try at bath bombs and sugar scrub...Olive Oil for the win! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by Zeenobia on: January 15, 2011 09:12:27 PM
Well, I've tried my hand at making some bath goodies.  I made some bath bombs using Mare Mare's recipe (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=203285.0).  I added vanilla and lavender fragrance oil, as well as some lavender flower bits.  I used olive oil instead of something fancier because I'm cheap.  (also, since I know I had some problems finding citric acid in stores, I thought I'd mention that I found it at Ace hardware!  They have a canning section.  I love Ace!)  I also had to warn my husband not to eat the stuff in the muffin tin on the stove...I know him too well...

I also made a lemon tea sugar scrub (recipe here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=270092.0).  Also, used olive oil.  I thought at first that it was going to be way to oily and that I'd have to wash and wash it off.  But I found that rinsing with hot water, then washing normally left me so soft!

I love olive oil now on my skin now!  I've used bath bombs from Lush before, but never has one left me silky afterward.  The olive oil in the bomb was perfect!

No theme this year.  I bought blue lights, and was going to put up the blue and silver balls...but they've been lost in the move, and Im' too cheap to buy more.  So, ecclectic it is!

To show off the blue lights:

6  Yet more wreaths..... in Winter Holidays by Zeenobia on: December 07, 2009 01:53:09 PM
I fell in love with this idea as a gift for fellow crafters.  The blue and silver one is for my fiance's mother.  I never know what to give her for Chanukah; there are only so many knitting pattern books you can give before you feel cheesy, you know?

The "knitting needles" are wooden chopsticks with wooden pegs glued to the ends.

This one is for my best friend who loves purple.  "Then why did you do it in blue?" you might be saying....well, it really is super PURLE!  I swear!

7  Clank ami from "Girl Genius" in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by Zeenobia on: October 25, 2009 03:33:04 PM
My fianc loves the little stuffed animals I make and his desk is home to yet another...He reads an online comic called "Girl Genius".  It's a tale set in a steampunk world....the title character is a mechanical genius who makes little robots called "clanks."  The ones that do work for her are basically walking pocket watches.  So I made one....

And here's an image of the original for reference...

I must go now...Clank is taking apart my appliances to make more clanks.....

(And, if you're interested, read it here....http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/

8  woven crystal bracelet in Beads: Completed Projects by Zeenobia on: September 30, 2009 08:04:53 AM
My mom and I saw these at a local bead store, but figured $25 plus materials was way too much to pay to learn how to make it.  So we just figured it out at home.  Whatcha think?

9  Re: The Crafty Wedding Craftalong! in Weddings and Bridal Showers by Zeenobia on: September 30, 2009 06:07:29 AM
I've been engaged for 2 years, but we finally set a date!  June 13, 2010 (no, it's not a Friday...)

I bought my dress at David's this weekend.  It's simple except for the beading at the  neckline, which is exactly what I wanted.

We also found a dress for the bridesmaids, which will be in yellow.

Even found a dress for my mom!  It's a hot pink dress that has one little tear on a seam, so we got it for $50!  (BTW, why are "mother of the bride" dresses so freaking ugly?  They're all in black, beige and grey, and look like only dour old lady would wear them.  Ugh!)

Now that I have the dress and have booked the place (ceremony and reception will be at the Davis Islands Garden Club: http://www.digclub.org/), I'm not doing anything until December.  I have to pass Spanish 2 to graduate from college, and I'm not allowed to do anything else until the final!  Well, I guess this counts as doing something, but I have to dream a little, right?

Well, my list for things to make goes something like this:
(Wedding colors are dark green and yellow, btw)

Veil:  I bought one on ebay for $20, and I'm going to add green crytals to edge
Jewelry:  Brides earrings and bracelets (no necklace needed with halter top!)
Bridesmaids necklaces, earrings, and bracelets (3 sets)
Bouquets
Centerpieces
Invitations
Simple printable ones; Including maps and allergy warnings (no scented anything!)
Chuppah:  Since I and so many friends and FMIL crochet, I'm having everyone crochet a square or two, then put them together.
Card basket
Cupcake tier
Programs
Flower girl basket
Cake topper
Favors

Those are the ideas so far.  Now back to studying.....

10  Re: 2009 12" Squares- September in Crochetalongs by Zeenobia on: September 02, 2009 04:42:59 AM
Squeee!  I love this square!  I am totally going to geek out and do a blanket of just this square....As soon as i saw it, I immediately thought of Battlestar Galactica and the Eye of Jupiter!

If you've never seen it, it's recurring mystical theme throughout the show.  I'm so doing this square in red, yellow and blue!  I don't know if many people will get it, but I'll love it.

It's a great looking square, mochaxlight!
