1  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / needle felted bantha on: December 13, 2012 08:58:43 PM
Ok, last Christmas present related post (for now  Wink
my friends asked me to make her a bantha for christmas. This was my attempt. I'm not 100 percent happy with the face, but I think it looks cute, despite not being totally Bantha-like...for those of you who don't know, Banthas are from star wars  Grin

this last picture is him without his fur on yet. He has a full wire skeleton, including a kind of rib cage, to give him a stable form. I filled him with polyfill and then wrapped him with thread to keep it all inside the skeleton. Then, I wrapped with white wool batting before putting on the higher quality brown roving for fur.

4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / dragon on: December 08, 2012 05:42:27 PM
I started this dragon at a craft fair as a demonstration. A woman watching me asked if she could buy it, so I finished it up over the next few days and sold it to her. It had a pipe cleaner skeleton in the body, tail, legs, arms and wings. the spines were the most tedious part!

6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / business name help on: November 25, 2012 05:30:40 PM
I'm starting a crafting business and am trying to pick a name. I feel really self-conscious about picking a name because I can't tell if they are cheesey or not. Every time I ask friends for suggestions they tell me to call it Karen's Crafts, which just doesn't do it for me.

Anyway, my intention is to make waldorf toys. Right now I mostly have needle felted wands, fairies, mermaids and fairy crowns. I also plan to expand to play silks, waldorf dolls and needle felted playscapes if this works out.

These are my ideas so far :

Encanto

Shady Grove Wool Works

Snapdragon Toys

opinons on these names or suggestion for others would be much appreciated!
7  Category Challenges / Fiber Arts: Challenge Entries / midnight felting challenge nightmare moon on: November 23, 2012 09:11:58 PM
My daughter is obsessed with my little ponies, almost as much as I was when I was little. She has the figurines for all of the major ponies from the Friendship is Magic series, but she does not yet have nightmare moon. I've been making a lot of stuff for sale lately, and it's been making her feel left out since I she can't play with the stuff I make. When I read that the challenge was about midnight, I immediately thought of nightmare moon and figured I would make it for the challenge and let my little girl keep it.
Details - her body and legs are made from four pipe cleaners. Her head was shaped from wool batting and felted onto the body, which also has a wool batting core within the skeleton. Her horn was the only none needle-felted item. I wet felted it to make it a little more stiff. I took a wisp of black wool and rubbed it with hot water and dish soap, then rolled it between my palms like making a snake. The wings and ears were flat felted on a sponge and then attached. She is about five inches tall and she took me two nights to make

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Pricing advice needle felting crafts on: November 21, 2012 09:31:34 PM
Hi, I'm going to be selling at a craft fair for the first time and I'm agonizing over how much to charge. I know the materials formula, but I'm interestingly knowing how much people think I should charge
Thank you in advance for any advice!

What is the rule on selling crafts based on movies, books, chartoons etc. if I make a doll the is the likeness of something from a movie, can I sell it? What about patterns from a book. Can I make it and sell it?
