1  needle felted bantha in Felting: Completed Projects by kchynoweth on: December 13, 2012 08:58:43 PM
Ok, last Christmas present related post (for now  Wink
my friends asked me to make her a bantha for christmas. This was my attempt. I'm not 100 percent happy with the face, but I think it looks cute, despite not being totally Bantha-like...for those of you who don't know, Banthas are from star wars  Grin

this last picture is him without his fur on yet. He has a full wire skeleton, including a kind of rib cage, to give him a stable form. I filled him with polyfill and then wrapped him with thread to keep it all inside the skeleton. Then, I wrapped with white wool batting before putting on the higher quality brown roving for fur.

4  dragon in Felting: Completed Projects by kchynoweth on: December 08, 2012 05:42:27 PM
I started this dragon at a craft fair as a demonstration. A woman watching me asked if she could buy it, so I finished it up over the next few days and sold it to her. It had a pipe cleaner skeleton in the body, tail, legs, arms and wings. the spines were the most tedious part!

6  midnight felting challenge nightmare moon in Felting: Completed Projects by kchynoweth on: November 23, 2012 09:11:58 PM
My daughter is obsessed with my little ponies, almost as much as I was when I was little. She has the figurines for all of the major ponies from the Friendship is Magic series, but she does not yet have nightmare moon. I've been making a lot of stuff for sale lately, and it's been making her feel left out since I she can't play with the stuff I make. When I read that the challenge was about midnight, I immediately thought of nightmare moon and figured I would make it for the challenge and let my little girl keep it.
Details - her body and legs are made from four pipe cleaners. Her head was shaped from wool batting and felted onto the body, which also has a wool batting core within the skeleton. Her horn was the only none needle-felted item. I wet felted it to make it a little more stiff. I took a wisp of black wool and rubbed it with hot water and dish soap, then rolled it between my palms like making a snake. The wings and ears were flat felted on a sponge and then attached. She is about five inches tall and she took me two nights to make

7  Pricing advice needle felting crafts in Get Product and Website Opinions by kchynoweth on: November 21, 2012 09:31:34 PM
Hi, I'm going to be selling at a craft fair for the first time and I'm agonizing over how much to charge. I know the materials formula, but I'm interestingly knowing how much people think I should charge
Thank you in advance for any advice!

9  Inspector Gadget cake! in Dessert by kchynoweth on: October 15, 2011 06:05:37 PM

my son just celebrated his fifth birthday and asked for an inspector gadget cake. he wanted lemon, so I made the 1,2,3 cake on the back of the Swan's Down box, but used lemon instead of almond extract, made a lemon curd for the filling and made vanilla/lemon buttercream for the frosting. I frosted it white and drew the face on with with black frosting. I then filled in the spaces with colored drop stars

10  Belle cake in Dessert by kchynoweth on: December 31, 2010 11:16:10 AM
My daughter asked for a princess cake for her 2nd birthday. I asked what flavor, and she insisted on "princess" flavor. I decided on champagne cake, since I figure that would be a suitable flavor for a princess. I used the Wilton's Wonder Mold with the brunette doll. I did the hair myself with a yellow ribbon and tied the little rose to her hand. The frosting is homemade butter cream dyed with lemon yellow and just a bit of orange and brown to give it that golden color.
When we brought it out to her, she immediately said "Belle!" and then ran her finger through the frosting and licked it off her hand!
