Ok so this was a bit of an ambitious scheme but it came off ok in the end. It was the birthday of two of my friends, and pretty much the only thing they have in common is a love of Doctor Who, so it was either this or Russell T Davies's face.
I'm still not sure I like the new dalek design, they look a bit like they're wearing a bustle, but the bright red was nice and easy to do with shop bought fondant. I'm sure none of these are news to anyone, but some quick tips;
a) I froze the brownies slightly, stuck them together in a stack with melted chocolate, froze again, and then just carved it to the right shape - this way it comes out much less likely to topple over or unbalance, and with less crumbs coming off
b) The nobbles (don't know what they're called) were getting so boring until I realised it was quickest to make a long snake of icing, chop it up into lots of equal small sections, then roll each one into a ball before snipping in half with scissors
c) For yet more stability I stuck kebab skewers down the middle at different angles. Can you tell I had to carry this thing to another city, on a bus and two trains?
Anyway on to the pictures, it was way too much fun posing big mothership cake dalek with the identical little toy one.
Uhoh, kitchen chaos....
It. Was. Massive.
