11  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Curling on: September 07, 2006 02:25:45 PM
I am a brand new knitter, I just learned (good) last night and I am working on a scarf but my edges are rolling under... does that mean I am knitting too tight? That would be my guess since I tend to crochet too tight too.
Is there any way to fix it? Can I iron them down when im done?
Sorry if I sound naive because I am when it comes to knitting!  Undecided

12  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / WHat am I doing wrong? (learning to knit) Please Help!!! on: September 04, 2006 12:27:47 PM
Ok please someone help me!!  Huh
I am just learning to knit and I bought a very good cd-rom and some needles and yarn, etc was all ready to go and I can not do the knit stitch!
I wish I could explain it better but I will try.

I insert the needle through the stitch on the left needle, pull it up and through so I have a loop over the right needle but when I get to the point to let the old stitch off the left needle, it just falls off and everything comes loose so I end up with no stitch on either needle. does that make sense?
I have studied everywhere online I and it looks like i am doing it right but when I study whats on my needle and what I am doing it makes sense it would fall out as the only thing holding the loop on the right needle is the stitch on the left so if I let that one off,  the loop just falls out and becomes a single piece of yarn again.

Ugh I am so frustrated, its been two days and I cant get past this first stitch...  Cry

Any advice on what I may be doing wrong??

14  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Whats in a logo? on: August 14, 2006 11:36:56 PM
Hey
I need help with a logo, my biz name is Prominent Penguin and so naturally I have a cute lil old penguin I drew in photoshop, etc and my name but I am wondering is it better to keep it simple or to add to it? I have tried different things, adding ice under the penguin, drop shadowing the words, etc and I keep coming back to the basic clean look I start with.

What do you all think?? Clean ans Simple or enhanced?

15  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / My Swap Journal on: August 01, 2006 08:10:56 PM
Ok so I didnt craft it entirely by hand but I love it so I wanted to share. Smiley

I had this journal forever, I bought it because I LOVED the beaded front but I never keep a journal so it was mostly lying around the house serving no purpose besides being a beaded beauty  Wink so I printed some pages for a swap journal and just glued them to the existing pages and it ended up working great. The other side of the paper (the normal lined part) I paste my DC receipt and write any notes that pertain to the swap.
The inside front has the definition of swap.

I love having a journal to remember all the swaps, etc. I also record what I sent and what my partner sent me so I will always remember what came from who lol.

16  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Altoid Tin Ideas - Help :D on: July 26, 2006 11:34:08 PM
Im planning early for Christmas and am planning Alotoid Tins for a lot of people based on their passions so I have a good start at it and most of my list the people are easy because they have certain passions and interests but I have a couple I am stuck on for decorating ideas...

My brother: He's brainy, smart, so I want to use a few einstein quotes, etc but any other ideas for the decorating part? maybe a pic of a brain lol... ?

My mother in law: she doesnt have a specific passion or collect anything. Shes not really into anything either except soap operas and country music lol so I am lost on what to do for her. HOWEVER, her son (my hubbys older brother) passed away like 12 years ago and shes always saying she wants a memoir thing of him, either a poem or something so I THOUGHT about a memoir tin in his honor but am not sure on ideas for it. Got any??

Thanks all you crafty clever people Smiley
17  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / 50's costume for my stepdaughter[img heavy] on: July 25, 2006 09:46:06 AM
Wasnt sure where to put this but she wanted me to share her pics with everyone  Smiley

I made this costume for her for a thing we have here called Cruise Night where everyone dresses like this and theres a dance, band, games, etc. Its a good time and the kids love it.
Her skirt, the dice on her skirt, purse, and wristband are all made from felt. For her hair I tied a pink scarf in it and drilled holes through dice to string on ribbon to wrap around her ponytail.

18  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Ste. Chapelle Wine Rack - What to do with it. on: May 17, 2006 01:15:04 AM
I just picked up this very cool ste. chapelle wine rack from the local auction house tonight, I paid more than I wanted to ($22.50) but I love it none the less. My entire kitchen is wine/grape/chefs/tuscan theme, almost overly so lol. But my question is now that I have this very cool wine rack that fits perfect in the decor. What can I do with it. Most people say fill it with veggies, potatoes, onions, etc but I never buy those in that much bulk to need bins for them and honestly I dont drink much wine (I know.. .. lol) so what could I use it for? ANy ideas. ? Huh

I apologize for the poor pics.

20  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / My First Coffee Pot Fish Tank :D on: June 04, 2005 01:21:47 AM
NOTE FROM LEAH (THE CRAFTSTER ADMIN): When choosing a vessel to keep fish in, please be absolutely sure you investigate whether it is large enough and whether it really is safe for that type of fish!!

First off... I know this will offend someone... but hey no matter what you do someone wont like it...  Lips sealed  I know some people are against this but believe it or not I asked the pet store guy and he said it would be fine and showed me the bowls they normally sell for betas and are TINY.

I saw the post on the coffee pot fish tank and had to try it, I was actually going to do the blender one but I am much more a coffee fanatic so I decided on it.

I got myself a good ol coffee pot.........

Then a trip to walmart to get some accessories....
and
I had a mini coffee cup with my name on it my friend from Denmark sent me and I had no idea what id ever do it with it.... do now! lol

I posted pics in both flash and non flash cause the non flash is more how it looks normally in real life  but he's (my cute fishy)  easier to see in flash.

I actually used lights in the part where the coffee filter goes to create a nightlight effect above (not shown in pics) .. and I use the back part where the water normally goes to store his accessories in (net, foods, extra stuff, etc) It works great! Its actually a pretty big coffee pot..
