22  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / New to fusing and loving it! (Microwave Kiln) on: June 01, 2009 01:58:56 PM
Hi

I have had my Micro Kiln for about two weeks now, and I was on holiday last week so havent had much time to use it, but I am loving what I've done so far.

I have been experimenting and just 'seeing' what different bits of glass do and then noting it all down to help me make more purposeful pieces.

Heres a group shot of what I've managed so far.....

its not the best picture and many of the pieces still need more polishing and finishing but I'm quite happy with them so far, I've made a few mistakes but I'll know not to do it again, lol.

Heres an action shot of me checking the pieces formation

after a quick peek I either fire for longer or leave in the kiln to anneal.

I am using my tester glass to practice but will soon buy some stuff to make better pieces. I was very wary of a micro kiln but have to say now that I think its been a great way to start fusing.

Thanks for looking.
23  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Silver thumb Ring from art clay (Micro kiln) on: May 23, 2009 10:10:41 AM
I decided to try using art clay, in my new micro kiln. I made a rough ring shape and although it came out wonky and bubbled, I kind of like it, lol.

I had to file it and polish it up a bit, but for a first try I thought it wasnt too bad. Any opinions and advice greatly appreciated.

I need to look into buying the proper polishing kit, but for now it'll do Smiley
24  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Baby Girl - Blankie and cube on: May 23, 2009 10:05:30 AM
My brothers wife is expecting a  baby girl, next week and I am travelling home for the birth, I thought I'd make my niece a little gift

I hope that the baby will like it and that her parents do too. Let me know what you think.
25  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / My FIRST EVER fused glass piece (Micro kiln) on: May 23, 2009 09:58:05 AM
Hi

I made this pendant this afternoon in my microwave kiln, I used bullseye glass.

I am keen to get peoples opinions as I'm totally new to this. I realise at one section the green over spilled the white and so I'll need to play with arrangement a bit. I think I've caught the fusing bug!

Thanks for looking.

26  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / New & Improved Craft Room on: May 17, 2009 09:46:01 AM
I've spent the weekend reorganising and redecorating my crafts space. It used to look like this......

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=296885.0

But now it looks like this.........

The view from the door

shelves and storage area

my wicked themed shelf Smiley

my work space, with my sewing machine and serger

A close up of my notice board and 'SEW' letters, which I made from ceiling tiles Smiley

The wall with my Jewellery tree and my 'CREATE' letters, which double as notice boards Smiley

A quote from RENT above the door

A close up of the wall decoration, (Again made from ceiling tiles)

My Fabric stash, which is still a little messy!

This is a good way to store flat things and stencils etc, lol.

I'm much happier with how it looks now. I love green so knew I wanted that colour to be the main colour and usually I hate Pink but it goes really well with green (wicked inspires, lol) and so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm pleased with the result. Its a real haven for me Smiley What do you think?

27  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Help needed....Creative or Crafty quotes wanted!! on: May 12, 2009 01:26:16 PM
Hi All

I am redecorating my craft space and I have a large wall facing my desk, I would love to decorate this with quotes of inspiration either about crafting, making things, creativity, or anything inspirational really.

I have a hectic life and want my crafts space to be an escape of sorts, so anything that would tie in with that would be great.

So come on craftsters, give me some ideas please? I'll show pics when done!

28  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / The first thing I ever knit, ever!! on: March 20, 2009 05:22:09 PM
I've been trying to learn to knit for a few weeks now. I have the stitch and bitch book and although its good I cant quite get into it!

Anyway for a recent swap I knitted an ipod or phone cover for my partner. I didn't know what I was knitting when I started and it ended up being one of those, lol.

I put a cute little gnome button on to liven it up

29  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / My Craft Room on: March 15, 2009 08:44:37 AM
I have been trying to organise my crafts room, its not finished yet not by a long way, but wanted to share what its like now...

View from doorway, you can see my messy fabric stash, my table and my dummy. My work desk for paying bills, typing letters etc is to the left.

My fabric stash is really disorganised and I need to do something about that soon. The baskets on the top have zips, ribbon and interfacing in them.

My shelves with supplies on them. Recently bought the boxes to seperate everything need to work on labelling them and stuff. I hand pieces of jewellery and patterns of the end of the shelves too.

Notice board with fabirc samples, old stencils and different bits and pieces on there.

My work space with my sewing machine and brand new serger (not unpacked yet)

Closer view of my shelves, with the books and odds and ends.

So there it is. I love it, its my little haven - but it needs a lot done to it! PLease ignore the england curtains, they were there when we moved in and I havent gotten around to replacing them yet. I also have plans for a huge mural on the wall to the right, but persuading my partner is another issue as hes not so keen, lol.

Anyway felt like sharing!
