1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Free way to promote your crafts on: October 12, 2009 06:03:33 AM
I would agree that article writing can be an effective method of generating visitors, but I don't necessarily agree with the 10-20% number you stated as clicking on your links. That sounds more like the response you'd get if you were doing it for a while and built up a readership or following. For me, articles are generally too time consuming to put together and unless they are really helpful, they tend to be obviously marketing techniques.
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Hi everyone I would value as many peoples opinion on this topic as possible? on: October 12, 2009 05:24:09 AM
Just to complicate things further, what you don't want to do is simplify it so much that search engines don't pick up important information needed for people to find you. Text has a purpose on a website. Just keywords listed in the tags doesn't cut it anymore.

Agreed. It is good to remember that. A fine balance of usability/searchability is key to the success of any website.

Anybody else remember that guy on TV who wore the full body suit that had internal organs all over it? Sorta reminded me of it when i saw these pics...very fun!
4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: To Frame or Not to Frame on: October 05, 2009 08:21:43 AM
I always like choice. Maybe you could offer it which ever way you like best (framed or non-framed) but offer the opposite as an option. Not sure if that works for you, but it came to mind as i read your post.
5  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Owlivia (HELP) on: October 05, 2009 08:18:12 AM
I agree with selling the pattern as the main product, but you could always do specialty owls to sell completed projects of. I'm thinking Seasonal (Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc...) or other themes.
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Family Christmas Cards on: October 01, 2009 12:53:54 PM
Anybody start thinking about their Christmas Cards? I've been designing them at work for a while, but thinking about my own is different somehow, right? I'd love to hear other ideas of what you all are planning to do.

You just have to start early thinking about holidays...think what would happen if you didn't...
8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Anyone have a love/hate relationship with Facebook? on: October 01, 2009 12:48:39 PM
I just wish there was some way to get notification that someone has posted on your fan page!

I'm still working out how best to use my FB fan page, but the first thing I did when I got it set up was to ask all of my friends to join so that if an actual fan finds it, they're not intimidated by being the first person to join.  It seems to have worked.

Can some of your friends join my fan page...  Smiley

I would add that a more cohesive single idea on the front page would be helpful. Maybe pick one thing to spotlight or a collage of things that get people excited to click on a button and find out more. Larger images, less of them and less text to read.

I have heard that before, I just can't seem to conclude with anything. I need to put a lot of thought into that.
Thanks for your suggestion Smiley

Don't worry about getting all that text in. You want to entice your visitors to click on something and get to your products...Show a big image of something in use.
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: Diaper Cake for Ducky Baby Shower (2nd Girl) on: September 29, 2009 06:00:27 AM
My wife had one of those for her baby shower...cool thing is, it's useful after the party and not just as leftovers...
