11  Re: Mini Art Quilt Swap 3 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spectrumsparksie on: September 18, 2010 05:18:01 PM
As seen in the previous post, Schnerby and I were paired for this swap and as we both live within a trip to Melbourne, we decided to exchange in person.
Schnerby absolutely nailed my theme.  I am a VCAL teacher: VCAL is a hands on learning program for students who want to stay in education for their senior years but they generally don't intend to take up tertiary education, they want to go into trades.
I requested a quilt that spelled out VCAL for decorating our classroom. Schnerby got it in spades!
Overall shot:

Each of the letters is so cleverly constructed. The V is a pair of pliers, the C is three paint brushes, the A is 3 rulers and the L is 2 spanners.  Brilliant!  The sashing is decorated with the real deal, screws and bolts and the like. The background is printed with little gears that schnerby did with a potato, cool!
Here is a closer view of my favourite block, the L, I really love the texture on the spanners>

Check out the pliers, so cool and shadow quilted

I can't wait to put it up in our classroom the boys (and 3 girls) will love having something made just for them. But it is the start of 2 weeks holiday so it will have to wait.  Cry
Thanks to Schnerby for being such a lovely partner.  You rock!

The lovely and talented Schnerby and I met up to exchange our quilts.  It was really lovely to meet a fellow craftster in person, and I am sure glad I chose Schnerby to be the first, she is lovely!
Here is a pic of our meeting.

More details of the quilt Schnerby made me, coming up in a jiffy.

13  Re: The Delightfully Devious Dexter Rd2 Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spectrumsparksie on: September 15, 2010 02:37:54 AM
Suffer in your bloody bathtubs craftsters, I had Vanillyz for my partner and she rocked this swap.
It was hard to decide what my fave item was, but I am pretty sure it is this Dark Defender Scoodie. (Modelled nicely by my daughter, but she will never lay hands on it again!)

Or how about this tote?  Little scapel wound on the cheek for Dexter's slide collection.

And if that wasn't cool enough, check out the lining!

Vanillyz also sent a cool zippered pouch, (with Barbie pull), a creepy Barbie necklace and some a cool syringe pen and candy.

Thanks for being an awesome partner Vanillyz. xxx

superstitch totally rocked it with a Mummy and me apron set for my daughter and I, the idea is straight off my wists, but superstitch totally went with the right colours of black and white with red accents.
You can tell by our faces how delighted we are. (only one problem, 6yo old son wants one for him!)
Seriously though, thanks to superstitch for totally nailing it.  beautifully designed and made.
A weekend of baking in store  I think

15  Re: Birds Birds Birds r2 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by spectrumsparksie on: June 21, 2010 03:19:36 AM
I received from OhThat last week and have been a slacker and am only putting up the pics of what she sent me today.  (Sorry ohThat!)  Here is the pic of the whole stash together (well except that I might have already demolished a couple more packets of sweets  Undecided )

She made me the cutest zipper purse/pouch which is so well made and she said she is only learning zippers, she did awesome!
And the cutest little birdy stuffie.  It is made with fabric that has US states on it, my kids loved it.  They also loved that in her little note to me she also included US coins.  My son now thinks we have money just like the Sim-Sims (The Simpsons).  She included a kit to make owl cards and owls are probably my favouritist bird.
Here are the close-ups, purse:

and the birdy, too cute huh?

Sorry for the dodgy indoor flash pics, I was trying for a daytime pic but have been flat out like a lizard drinking.
Thanks OhThat, you are a great partner.

16  Re: I <3 Owls Swap Gallery Sendouts 6/7/10 in The Swap Gallery by spectrumsparksie on: June 01, 2010 02:29:54 AM
Get your wisting fingers ready girls.  I have received and magsb80 is just too good to be true.  This was her first crafster swap, if you see her in another, grab hold with two hands, she is a keeper.  Wink  Thanks Magdalena for a package of awesomeness, I love everything!
Firstly, check out the cool doodles decorating the box (these are only a selection)

(how very true as you will soon see)

First out of the box was this little fella.  My son Will grabbed him and has only just let go, 3 hours later.

You might recognise his cousin from  here
He came in his own little drawstring bag, which will be very useful for other bits and bobs.

I love, love, love this Alexander Henry fabric and was so close to buying some to use in this swap too.  What great taste you have magsb80!
Everything else was beautifully wrapped in paper, decorated with feathers, and flowers, or these cute little owl printed brown paper bags.

Everything else you say?  Yep.  check it out.
This is where my first camera went flat and I swapped to another without realising there was a big slodge on the lens, so the next few pics have a splodge, please try hard to ignore it.

How about this awesome lined bag, with a zippered pocket inside. Envious? Ha! You should be.

More AH fabric in this cute little zippered pouch, and btw did you notice the cutest cute little tags magsb80 put on everything?  I did.

A pattern for the sock owls I have wisted from craft schmaft.  Can't wait to have a go at this.

A cute owl embroidered on a tea-towel.  He would almost make drying dishes fun.  Yeah, I said almost, who likes drying dishes?  Anyway, he is too spesh to get wet.  He can just hang out in the kitchen making wise owly comments.

Yep, still going can you believe it?

More AH, this time in the form of a tissue holder.  Man-o-man I am fit to burst.
And lucky last, with unfortunately a photo that does not go close to doing it justice, the apron I requested at the top of my list.  Magsb80 I love it, please, please please if you took a photo can you post it as this photo is not doing justice to the thing of beauty and function you have made for me. It is reversible and just truly too perfect.

Magdalena, thank you and thank you again for being an awesome partner.  You have made me the happiest little owlina and your package came at the end of a blerchy day teaching and really bucked me up.  Thank you.

17  Bright Cot Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by spectrumsparksie on: May 09, 2010 06:42:21 AM
My girlfriend at work's first baby is due tomorrow.  I finished this today!  Now she is allowed to go into labour.  I asked her months ago what her colour theme for the nursery was and she said just lots of bright primary colours.  I made her this:

I used this tutorial to make the centre panel. But then I had the problem that I had made it into a square and I needed a rectangle.  I added the two strips of black.  When I was quilting it I wasn't sure what to do.  I ended up using the pinwheel shapes and quilting them onto the black in variegated metallic multicoloured thread.  I am not sure I am a fan.
The quilt is self-bound (where you use the backing fabric and mitre the corners, I think that is what you call it?)

I am quite happy with it and hope she will be too.

Just opened my package from cyndiq, pics coming in a few mins. xxx
OMFG!  Cyndiq captured me perfectly and sent me the most awesomest of packagaes.  here are the pics in no particular order:
She made these 2 rocking headbands for my 9yo daughter who is in a huge dilemma as to which one to wear to school tomorrow.

Then there were these super cute owl shoe fresheners. (owls feature repeatedly in my Wists)

Are they cute or what?
Then there was a door label thingy (brain fart what are they called) name plate!

How cute are these?  I love polka dots.  They are scented drawer sachets, super duper fun.

This cute pendant which will go nicely with a scarf that I just bought

These amazing clips that are even cooler than the ones in my wist

A whole set of punchies for my scrapbooking pursuits.

And remember how I said the pics were in no particular order?  I lied.  I saved my absolute favourite til last:
This awesome owl picture, which has 4 owls, one for each family member.  It is totally, absolutely freakin' awesome. Love it, love it, love it.

The picture doesn't do it justice, it is super duper huge.
Cyndiq you are a fantastic partner and I am truly greatful for the awesome quality and quantity of what you sent me, thank you so much.
If you have better pictures, (mine suck because my camera battery charger is MIA, so these are off my phone) please post them, especially the owl picture so everyone can see it's true beauty.

Without further ado here is the evidence:
My first and foremost favourite, a spiderman coffee cup just like Elvis Cole's.  It is going straight to the poolroom!(if you have seen the movie The Castle you will know what I am talking about) Lolz

then there is the creepy Trinity kill scenes...

And from the sue grafton alphabet series a magnetic photo frame:

and one for school which my students will love to see me carrying about:

Thanks for being a fun, friendly and creative partner crazyda79!
