51  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Introducing my stuff Pic Heavy! on: January 22, 2009 01:39:27 PM
I realized last night that even though I roam the boards and post that I've never posted my jewelery here. Maybe it'd push me into making something new.

A bracelet repurposed from an old computer keyboard cable

Second pair of origami earrings after I made my sister a practice pair..

I have pictures of third pair I was commissioned for if you are interested. My first and only commission. ^^

Choker made to wear on my special anniversary trip to Disneyland

There you have it! I started making jewelery around summertime so there is six months progress to view. Though I must admit that even though I am self taught, I come from a family of jewelers so I always have some one to call when I am stuck.
52  California / California: South / Upcoming Los Angeles meet up? on: January 12, 2009 12:06:31 AM
I've been looking for a Los Angeles craft group and haven't found much..What I have found doesn't seem to have any recent meet ups.

I make my own jewelry and have started needle felting. Smiley

We've come up for something in February:
Craftster get together - LA fabric district Smiley

Would you like to meet some of the other Craftster members?
Would you like to explore the fabric district of downtown LA?
Would you like to visit the awesome fabric/sewing notions/patterns/yarn store Michael Levine?

Then come to the get together! We'd love to meet you.
So here's the plan.....

Saturday 7th February
11.00am
Meet up at Starbucks (9th Street & Santee St), then pop round the corner to the Michael Levine Store, then wander around the fabric district depending on the interests of those present.

Starbucks:
300 E. 9th Street

Michael Levine Store:

53  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Tastey Wool Treat on: January 11, 2009 11:37:44 PM
I just started needle felting...My first project was a baby dino that I got a kit for. I'm not finished because I'm not sure what details I want to finish it with.

Anyways...this is my second project done in one day. The white is some pillow stuffing that I have plenty of. The red is dyed roving. The roving has an uneven texture and coloring...I used that to my advantage to add texture. Did the best I could without a texture reference...Well, I don't think you can see the texture in these photos anyway.

I could possibly add more later...but I will probably look like a freak photographing meat at the market. (Cooking in my home isn't really an option and I have no influence on the grocery list)

54  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / End of Chemo Therapy Gift on: November 13, 2008 03:07:15 PM
This Thanksgiving my dad and his wife are having a party celebrating my dad's birthday (it's on the 15th), the end of his wife's Chemo therapy, and of course Thanksgiving.

My dad is turning 60 and since gardening is a hobby for both him and and wife I am set on a mini terrarium. I know he owns all the year-round spices so any other suggestions would be great. If not, I plan to pester the person at the local nursery for suggestions.

On to my step-mom. She has been going through therapy for breast cancer. She's been a trooper and it's soon to be her last treatment! She has enough wigs, scarves, and hats to keep her head warm i believe. Her name is Lianne, she's in her late 50s, and she's a pretty crafty person herself. Lianne loves to crochet and has recently joined a cancer knitting group. She also decorates her house A LOT. No inch is safe. She is very feminine, loves girly things. I often see her wearing spring colors, flowers, and in the summer she wears Hawaiian shirts. Sometimes she coordinates her Hawaiian clothes to match my dad's. *gag* She wears glasses so I was thinking of a necklace where her glasses can hang from but I think my dad, a jeweler, already gave her one.

I have recently started making jewelery myself and can make anything that doesn't require soldering or casting. I'm also up for easy crafts. Tutorials with pictures help TONS. Suggestions please?
