I recently made these for fiddlegirl8, for the Mini Art Quilt 5 Swap. She added poppies, at the last minute, to her list of themes and I just knew I had to do something with poppies. We both had a pillow on our wists with a white panel with embroidered poppies, surrounded by gray. So I dug around in my stash and found some poppy fabric and combined it with the pillow design to come up with this:



And because it ended up looking a bit like a placemat, I decided to make a mug rug as my extra (dimensions are about 5"x8" - accidently cut off the top binding in the photo):



I'm so glad that she liked them!!

Here's my first mug rug (roughly 7x7 inches), I made it as practice for someone on another site. It's much improved over my first art quilt I made for someone here on Craftster. I still have to work on the corner of my bindings, but the curves are SOOOOO much better. I'm usually a "I'll try to figure it out on my own" type of person, but I've discovered it helps to read how to do it FIRST :-)



And here it is with a big mug on it, although the photo makes the mug look GIANT.

I made this for my partner in the recent tea/coffee swap. It was my first time using crochet thread. I little fiddly and fussy, but I really like the results you get when you use thread.

I asked Sew Help Me is she was interested in resurrecting the 200 Crochet Blocks (book by Jan Eaton) CAL, and she gave me her blessing in starting it back up. In fact, I think she'll be joining us - yay!

For inspiration here is the #52 Lemon Peel pattern I did last year (in lime green):



I thought I would list a new square at the beginning of each month. If we want to rotate the decision among participants, that would be great. If not, I'll choose one. And because I hope to finish two or three 6-8" squares a month (to go along with my 12" squares I make in the other crochetalong), I thought I'd also post a bonus/filler pattern that I find elsewhere.

Unfortunately I missed this swap the first time around, and just noticed it in the gallery. I was wondering if there were plans/interest in doing a round 2? I'd love to join in!

It's October - is everyone just about ready for another embroidery swap? PerachYafeh suggested I survey everyone to see what you want to do and when. I'm in the mood for tea towels I think. What about the rest of you? Anyone, anyone?

We also briefly discussed the possibility of mid- or late-Oct signups and Nov crafting. Or some variation of that.

Any ideas or opinions?

They are asking for volunteers to crochet, knit and sew blankets and other accessories for serving military (and their families) and for wounded veterans. They are also looking for volunteers to "adopt" a soldier - which entails writing letters to them and sending a few care packages.

I've been crocheting three different afghans for awhile, two of which I thought I'd give as Christmas presents. I think I'll send them to a veteran instead.

Here is the poppet I made for mamarose22 for the recent Make Me a Doll Swap. She is the second poppet that I've made. And if I do say so myself, it was easier the second time around and she turned out better than the first. I think next time I may even be ready to try eyelids!
