Boro embroidery

Slow Cloth

What can I do with these patches, you ask? You could use these to patch your jeans, your jacket, collect more and make a purse, or use them as part of a bigger art project!

We will be signing up for one to two partners (new swappers limited to one partner), and you and your partner will agree on the exact number of patches to swap, between 1 and 3 patches of equitable sizes. For example, if partner 1 would like a 4" x 6" patch and their partner wants 3" x 4" patches, partner 1 should be making two 3" x 4" patches for every 4" x 6" patch received. Communication with your partner is key and please make sure your exchanges are fair!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Boro embroidery patches? on: August 30, 2016 08:01:13 PM
Hi everyone!

I haven't swapped for awhile so I'm not sure if this has been done before. If it has, please let me know who the organizer is!

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in swapping boro embroidery patches? Either to use on clothing or to use in other art work? I think there are many ways we could do it - in small groups, or one, two or three partners? Different sizes? Choice of color? An example would be someone who wants to cover the knees of their jeans, and they would prefer two with a blue and white color palette. Someone else might want three small ones to put on a jacket in cream, brown and red. Someone else may want low volume neutrals in the color of linen (or actual linen?) to use in art quilt making or fabric collage.

I got the idea from this lady, who sells them on etsy: https://www.facebook.com/PockethouseTextiles/photos

Here are some other examples to feast your eyes on! https://www.google.com/search?q=boro+embroidery+patches&biw=1366&bih=635&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi-08jm0urOAhVB1mMKHRJ0C2IQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=_

What do y'all think?!
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Poppies - mini art quilt and mug rug on: May 30, 2012 01:39:09 PM
I recently made these for fiddlegirl8, for the Mini Art Quilt 5 Swap. She added poppies, at the last minute, to her list of themes and I just knew I had to do something with poppies. We both had a pillow on our wists with a white panel with embroidered poppies, surrounded by gray. So I dug around in my stash and found some poppy fabric and combined it with the pillow design to come up with this:

And because it ended up looking a bit like a placemat, I decided to make a mug rug as my extra (dimensions are about 5"x8" - accidently cut off the top binding in the photo):

I'm so glad that she liked them!!

7  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Quilted Mug Rug on: September 06, 2010 05:24:00 PM
Here's my first mug rug (roughly 7x7 inches), I made it as practice for someone on another site. It's much improved over my first art quilt I made for someone here on Craftster. I still have to work on the corner of my bindings, but the curves are SOOOOO much better. I'm usually a "I'll try to figure it out on my own" type of person, but I've discovered it helps to read how to do it FIRST :-)

And here it is with a big mug on it, although the photo makes the mug look GIANT.

Fun!
8  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / crocheted tea/coffee cups bookmark on: January 30, 2010 08:43:44 PM
I made this for my partner in the recent tea/coffee swap. It was my first time using crochet thread. I little fiddly and fussy, but I really like the results you get when you use thread.

9  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / DORMANT: 2010 200 Crochet Blocks CAL (w/pattern links) on: January 09, 2010 12:55:23 PM
Hi all -
I asked Sew Help Me is she was interested in resurrecting the 200 Crochet Blocks (book by Jan Eaton) CAL, and she gave me her blessing in starting it back up. In fact, I think she'll be joining us - yay!

For inspiration here is the #52 Lemon Peel pattern I did last year (in lime green):

I thought I would list a new square at the beginning of each month. If we want to rotate the decision among participants, that would be great. If not, I'll choose one. And because I hope to finish two or three 6-8" squares a month (to go along with my 12" squares I make in the other crochetalong), I thought I'd also post a bonus/filler pattern that I find elsewhere.

January
#189 Willow (my fave so far!)
Bonus: Castle's End Square

February
#161 Daisy Chain (chosen by craftADDchick - thanks!)
Bonus: Spider in the Barn Square (chosen by zombiecazz - thanks!)

March
#94 Gothic Square (chosen by zombiecazz - thanks!)
Bonus: 6 or 7 inch Gothic Square

April
#78 Briar Rose (chosen by Gspinn - thanks!)
Bonus: Wagon Wheel Granny Square - by our very own OnePinkHippo!

May
#111 Four Square or #209 Marigold (chosen by Selnith - thanks!)
Bonus: Circle of Friends Square (chosen by Gspinn - thanks!)

June
#76 Granny Stripes (chosen by love2teach - thanks!)
Bonus: #29 Bobble Stripes (Selnith chose either page 299 or #299, this book has neither so I chose #29)

July
#88 Edwardian Fancy (chosen by Junior_Mint - thanks!)
Bonus: Four-Pointed Star (chosen by love2teach - thanks!)

August
#86 Sunray
Bonus: Sunflower Square

September
#69 Fudge - chosen by craftADDchick - thanks!
Bonus: Chocolate Chip Cookie Square - chosen by zombiecazz - thanks!

October
#74 Seville
Bonus: Bess's Lace Square

November
#197 Fretwork
Bonus: Nordic Star Square

December

I hope you'll all join us!

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Let's strip! the swap with a twist - Round 2? on: October 18, 2009 12:38:38 AM
Unfortunately I missed this swap the first time around, and just noticed it in the gallery. I was wondering if there were plans/interest in doing a round 2? I'd love to join in!
