3  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / My brand new Kiwi and first handpun on a wheel!!!! on: November 08, 2008 07:07:52 PM
I'm so excited about it! I got it a few days ago and decided to handpaint it and use clear waterbased polyurethane. I was going for a green gradient but The three colors kind of blended Smiley Anyways, here it is! And my first handspun is the free stuff that came with the wheel and a free sample from Cloudlover!

4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / My first born! on: October 16, 2008 01:35:17 PM

spun on a drop spindle, I think I did it a wee bit thick! I dont know the yardage, but it was from 2oz of fiber.

and knitted up, size 17 (I think !!!) needles.

I cant wait to try again!!! Smiley
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Should I buy this antique wheel?? on: October 15, 2008 07:27:10 PM
Ok, this is not a pic of the actual wheel....but I found one almost identical in an antique store today. I took some crappy cell phone pics but couldnt post them here so I found this...

It was originally priced at $350 and is at $129 currently, but I think I could talk them down to $100 ish. My question is...I have never spun on a wheel before, only a spindle... would this be a good idea? I searched the forum and read many times that the issues with antiques are that I may be stuck with only one bobbin and may have a hard time buying other parts for it as well. The wheel in question appeared to be in decent shape...but then again I didnt really know what to look for other than the basic parts. I am going to take my husband and a real camera with me tomorrow to look at it again and then maybe I can post some real pics! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

6  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Joann roving?? on: October 14, 2008 11:00:18 AM
Has anyone tried this besides me?? I am a brand new spinner and was needing a roving fix before some that I ordered came in the mail. So...I went to Joann and bought some of the little bags of roving they had and tried to spin it. I dont know if Im doing something wrong or what, but this stuff is so fuzzy, its almost like frizzy hair!!! I just got fed up and quit because this stuff wasnt looking anything like yarn. On top of that it was a bit pricey, $4 for 1.4 oz. Anyone else??
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / How many ounces?? on: September 26, 2008 07:52:25 AM
Hello, brand-newbie here! I was wondering...how do you know how many ounces of roving to purchase in order to have enough for each project? I ordered my first drop spindle and want to purchase some roving to spin for my first project. I would like to have enough yarn to knit at least a skinny scarf Smiley Any help would be great!!!
