When you are first applying your interfacing, press the two together.  Lift the iron up and put it down.  Don't iron.  I usually put the fabric on the bottom and the interfacing on top.  Once you have the interfacing pressed to the fabric, turn this over (so the fabric is on top).  Then you can iron.  Hopefully, this will help.
