Applications now online for 2009 Detroit Urban Craft Fair

The 4th annual Detroit Urban Craft Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit.

Hosted by Handmade Detroit, applications for the juried show are now available on the DUCF web site (www.detroiturbancra ftfair.com). The deadline to apply is September 11, 2009.

The fair, Michigan’s largest indie craft fair, is entering its fourth year with the same commitment to DIY community that made it a must-attend event the past 3 years. Over 50 Michigan and national DIY crafters will be selected to showcase their unique work in the market.

Handmade Detroit is hosting a Swap-O-Rama-Rama next weekend (May 1-3) in downtown Plymouth as a part of the Green Street Fair, and we're looking for some help!

First, we're looking for volunteers! Experienced sewers (nothing special, you know how to use a sewing machine and stitch a straight line is experience enough) are especially needed, but non-sewers are super appreciated too! An hour or a day, any of your time is helpful in teaching people of all ages how to repurpose their used clothing into a new useful something! If you are interested in volunteering, please email bethany@rewarevintage.com

We are also in need of clothing donations for the Swap-o-Rama-Rama! If you live in the Plymouth-ish area, and have some clothing or linens in your home you'd like to donate, please bring it to the Swap-O-Rama-Rama on any day at any time that weekend, and we'll find new uses for your donations!

Friday, May 1st noon-7
Saturday, May 2nd 10-7
Sunday, May 3rd 10-5

If you’re interested at putting your crafty/do-gooder skills to work May 3 or May 4, Handmade Detroit http://handmadedetroit.com is looking for volunteers to help out with Swap-O-Rama-Rama http://www.swaporamarama.org.

We will be teaching people of all ages how to sew and turn old clothing into something new! There are a dozen different tutorials (all are no-sew or basic sewing knowledge geared) that we will have around our tent for participants to use, but we need volunteers to help guide people through the process!

If you’ve got a lot of time or a little bit, one day or two, it doesn’t matter; we’d love for you to help out! If you’re a sewing queen, we’d love to have you come on out, but if you’re more of an overall helper or just want to part of the action, we can’t wait for you to help.

The Swap-O-Rama-Rama is from 10am-7-pm on Saturday May 3rd and from 10 am-5pm on Sunday May 4th. If you can help in any way, for any amount of time, please email  e-mail Lish at lish [dot] dorset [at] gmail [dot] com!

Hello!

Just wanted to give an update that the Baar Bazaar is still happening at the Magic Stick in Detroit on Wednesday nights from 6pm till 2am. Tables are free and provided by the bar, and no reservations are needed. Sell anything you want! We've had vendors selling cds, dvds, vintage clothing, books, stained glass items, adult novelties,  knitted and crocheted items, jewelry, art, even personal massage! Traffic is great, and makes the night well worthwhile.

We also set up a similar event at the Belmont in Hamtramck  on Tuesday nights called the Rock N Rummage. Same as the Baar Bazaar, tables are free and provided by the bar, no reservations needed. We set up at 9:30, after Punk Fitness is over, and it runs until 2am. Any and all merch is cool to sell, and there's great drink specials too!

Both events are alot of fun, and did I mention tables are FREE!!! Even if you don't want to sell, come on down and take a look at all the neat shopping! If anyone has any questions, please email me or post!

I wanted to let all know in the Metro Detoit area about the wonderfullness of the Baar Bazaar. It happens every Wednesday night from 6 - 1 or so in the Garden Bowl at the Magic Stick. It is sort of a flea market inside the bar, and you can sell anything you want and buy other peoples cool stuff. They provide a 6 foot table for you, and they don't even charge you anything to sell! There's different vendors selling records, videos, crafty stuff, and I sell vintage clothes and some of my own creations. Check it out - its alot of fun whether you are buying or selling!
