Can't stop burnin' them spoons!  Smiley  This one came about as I tried to think of something that would go well in this odd "corner spoon" shape!

I found a salad fork and spoon - my next victims... Smiley

33  Ma Rainey in Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: July 19, 2013 04:43:00 PM
I have long been intrigued with "drawing" done on the sewing machine, and have always had it on my "to do" list of things to learn more about.  Finally I just said - the heck with it -I'm just gonna give it a try!
This is Ma Rainey - a blues singer who was in her prime in the 20's!! She was a lady ahead of her time.
This was actually a lot of fun - my thread broke a couple times, but other than that it really was like drawing!

34  Watch Work Birds in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: July 12, 2013 01:15:07 PM
I made a little bird for the OTB Swap. My partner had pinned some birds done in this style, so I went with it! - he's made from polymer clay and then painted and embellished with vintage snaps and watch works and some "antique" papers. He's sitting on an old wooden spool.

While doing this bird I got a few requests for MORE birds.  So far I've only made one more, but have been working on another one today.  This is bird number two:

He's  done with all watch parts and the same paper.  I also tried another method of making his legs.  He's also on an old spool - hope I can find more of those - I really love the look of them!

I had no idea this was such a serious problem.
Looking forward to figuring out something small and fantastic for amaryllisroze!!!

36  A Chicken Spoon? Why not! in Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: June 02, 2013 01:39:49 PM
Because I have found that when I browse through Pinterest I am drawn to the great wood burned spoons, I decided to give it a try.  This one is for my nephew's wife since they just got a big batch of chicks for their new farming endeavor!  Smiley

It's kind of fun and I like that burning wood smell...not so much the smell of burning hair when I leaned in a little too close.  Wink

37  Holy Mackerel!! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: May 19, 2013 06:56:59 PM
This is quite possibly not the right place for this - but close enough I think!  Smiley
I've been playing around with the idea of making a stringer of fish- in fabric - ever since I saw some carved out of wood on Etsy.  I loved the idea of having them hang on the wall somewhere, so I devised my own plan.  These are made of canvas - gessoed and then painted with acrylics and textile medium.  The paint is kind of shimmery and I intentionally frayed the edges on the tails and fins - just cause it kinda gave them a look I was going for.
All done - I gave them hooks and strung them up - ready to hang.  Smiley

38  Re: Completely Ghastly Edward Gorey Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 14, 2013 12:44:29 PM
I received an incredible package from erica_tattoos yesterday!!  It started out with a Gorey-rrific note complete with rhyming alphabetical silliness!  So fun!  First out of the box was The Wanton from "The Fatal Lozenge".  Spot on Erica!!  For those that are unfamiliar, the passage that goes with the illustration is: The Wanton though she knows the dangers. Must needs smear kohl about her eyes, And wake the interest of strangers, With long-drawn, hoarse, erotic sighs.

Next comes the "Black Doll" - totally, inexplicably creepy.  Erica added a bell because she said,"He told me he needed it".  MUAH-HA-HA-HA-HAAA!

And last but certainly not least - this bracelet with the man himself along with several Gorey-esque charms!  Check out this ingeniously improvised Doubtful Guest!

Thank you so much erica_tattoos!!  It's all wonderful!!

39  The Gashlycrumb Reaper in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 03, 2013 09:02:55 PM
I participated in the Edward Gorey swap, and made this for my partner.  The Gashlycrumb Tinies (for those not familiar) recounts the tragic demise of 26 children (in alphabetical order.)  The cover of that book is a classic Gorey illustration - the reaper surrounded by the kids.
AAAAAANYWAY... here he is - about 16" tall, fabric and sculpey.  His umbrella is stiffened fabric and he has a loop on his back so he can hang on the wall.  Smiley

40  Re: Anything Goes Tiny House Swap, rd. 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: March 06, 2013 09:00:58 PM
Okay all you teag fans - check out this fantastic little house I received today!  Way too cute for words - I hope my photos do it justice!!  Thanks so much teag - I love it!

The flash was a little bright - in case you can't tell, that's a little tea cup over the Mad Hatter's door!  Wink  (And a couple little birds sitting out back!)
