132  The elf and his bird of paradise in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: July 14, 2009 06:31:16 PM
Just finished this project based on a pattern by Julie McCullough (Magic Threads) .  I added the little needle felted beard and hair, and as always had a great time picking through my fabrics to find the right pieces.  Their faces and the feather embellishments are painted with acrylics and they hang from fishing line.  I have a few other patterns from Magic Threads that I'm excited to try - cute stuff!
Thanks for taking the time to look! Cheesy

133  Gooble! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: June 03, 2009 12:20:10 PM
A friend's daughter requested this one for her almost two year old daughter.  He is a lesser known Yo Gabba Gabba character, but she is intrigued by the fact that he's always sad.  Maybe she'll be able to make this one feel better.  Wink

He's made of soft velour and really - you can't get much simpler than this! Cheesy

134  Big Black Bear in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: May 24, 2009 08:12:25 AM
I made two of these a while ago - one to sit on my brother's couch in Vermont and one for my grandson.  Friday I made a bright pink one for my granddaughter's 5th birthday. Pink fur, white muzzle & pink heart ears and paw pads.(Of course I waited til the last minute and was up til 2 AM finishing it up!) - no pictures of it yet although I think some were taken at the party.  I have to say - I like the black ones best of all.  Smiley  (Not a great picture - but you get the idea?)

You now have official cockatoo praise - great job - I know that had to be a little bit tricky! Cheesy

136  More Crazy Charms! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 07, 2009 10:23:29 PM
Okay - I was TOTALLY inspired by RSDenny's cha cha charm bracelet post and went right out and got the Naughty Secretary Club Book. Smiley  I spent a couple of weeks collecting all kinds of nonsensical charms and made the huge commitment of buying a three rowed expansion bracelet.  It seemed like no matter how many charms I put on, it never filled up! Well a week and a few sore fingers later I came up with this fantastically ridiculous bracelet and inadvertant bird charmer. Grin

137  Good Dog in Needlework: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: March 29, 2009 01:04:28 AM
I made this for a friend's birthday - she had a sweet, scruffy little mutt named Nellie that passed away a few months ago - it was really hard on her.  So...this is in honor of Nellie - a good dog.
Its all applique with a few touches of embroidery - its sitting on top of the frame glass for the picture so there won't be any glare.

138  Hi My Name's Harry in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by thisbirdsabsurd on: January 14, 2009 11:30:30 AM
Inspired by foureyedgirl's monster purse and the fact that this piece of fake fur has been turning up everytime I turn around since I used it at Halloween!!!
Didn't use a pattern, just made it to accommodate the size of the fur piece, then added the face and a furry strap. My daughters both want him so I have a feeling I'll have to dig up some more fur! Cheesy

139  monster dolls - lots o' pics <Now With Pseudo Tut! :)> in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: January 04, 2009 02:43:23 PM
kind of a take off on the ugly dolls, made from that super soft cuddle fleece.  Not as nice to work with as regular fleece, but it feels really good! - I made one for my grandson at Christmas and have since become inspired - gotta find homes for these guys!  (the keychain one was per my daughter's request - she's a keychain-aholic.) Cheesy

Okay - just to answer a few q's - no stablizer, and yes all the features are machine stitched - (I use a zig zag.)  The "bow" on the striped monster is just laid on top of the body fabric.  When I stitch on the face, I stitch that to the surface too - then sew it up with the rest of the body at the end (make sense?)  I made a new one tonight, with a little help from my friend, and took some pics of the simple process.....first I drew up a pattern, pinned it to the doubled fabric and cut it out leaving 1/4" - 1/2" around the edges.

lay out your face and pin it down - help is always welcome...

Zig zag around everything (I ladder stitched the "trunk") and put a french knot (or whatever) in the center of the eyes. then pin right sides together and stitch that baby up.  They're very quick and easy!

Hope this might inspire! Cheesy

140  Another Tree??? :) in Winter Holidays by thisbirdsabsurd on: December 15, 2008 09:48:55 AM
we finally got the tree up - an assortment of store bought ornaments and lots made by me, my kids, sister, aunt, mom - I love going through them every year!  I made the tree top angel several years ago.
By the way - this is my dog's first Christmas - she's a little too obsessed with the tree (and doing her best impression of the Ghost of Christmas Past".) Wink
