121  Bird Mobile! in Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: September 30, 2009 11:34:55 AM
I got this idea (and the little bird pattern) off of Spool.  Fun and easy - at least until you get up to the balancing part - a great way to use up lots of bits and pieces from your fabric stash!  Smiley
I had a hard time getting a good shot - finally hung it in the doorway.  This one will be going to Florida to live with my sister - her month-late birthday present!

Grrrr - this is completely in the WRONG place - I'm sure someone will be kind enough to boot it into the right compartment!  Sorry about that!

122  Barefoot sandals in Beads: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: September 21, 2009 05:40:28 PM
I'm not much of a beader and I know these have probably been posted a bunch of times, but here's my go at barefoot sandals.  A good friend of mine wanted a pair for a beach wedding she's going to in Cabo.  They are very pretty on, and if it weren't for my big feet with a broken toe you might be able to tell. Cheesy  They are made with purple, irridecent purple, clear & silver beads and pearls. A pretty simple project - they sell for between $40-$60 on the internet, so she got a deal having me make them for her! Wink

123  Re: Birds birds birds Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: September 14, 2009 04:13:38 PM
Okay - I can not tell you how this package made me giggle!  Soooooo cute and I am so impressed with mouser882's crocheting skills - not just because mine are non existent, but because she did an awesome job of duplicating a couple of my REAL birds!  So, without further ado.....(can you tell which ones are the real ones and which are the "Stand-ins"?)

-and look at these cute birdies that came too!!

There was also a box of Nerds in my package - they seem to have disappeared but funny how my daughters both have bright green tongues!!

Thank you soooooo much mouser882 - this was a fantastic surprise!  And thankyou craftewoman for such a great swap!

125  Deep Dish Apple Pie in Dessert by thisbirdsabsurd on: August 02, 2009 09:46:11 PM
Here's a collaboration between my daughter and me.  She has the knack for homemade pie crust so I leave that to her.  After rolling it out and putting the bottom crust in we filled it with 9 cups (3 lbs) of granny smith and Jonagold apples, a cup of dark brown sugar, a few tablespoons of flour, 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp nutmeg.  Popped the top crust on, slit it all around, gave it an egg wash and sprinkled with sugar then baked for about 45 minutes. (425 for 15 minutes and 375 for the rest of the time.)  It's delicious!  (Would have gotten a shot of the inside but we brought it to a dinner party and I didn't have a chance. Smiley

126  Octoman in Stenciling: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: July 16, 2009 03:10:55 PM
okay - so this is a first attempt at freezer paper stenciling, and of course I felt the need to make it complicated....anyway, I was trying to come up with something for my son's birthday and thought an octopus t shirt might be kinda cool, (he's a grown man - but still....) so as I was browsing through pictures on the net I was suddenly and out of no where inspired to do an octopus with my son's face.  Of course I had the perfect picture to use - goofing around as always as soon as the camera comes out, so I pieced them together, printed it on the freezer paper, pulled my hair out cutting it out and here's what I came up with.  Not perfect, but I'm pretty sure it will crack him up - AND... I know he'll wear it! Cheesy  Thanks for looking!

128  The elf and his bird of paradise in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: July 14, 2009 06:31:16 PM
Just finished this project based on a pattern by Julie McCullough (Magic Threads) .  I added the little needle felted beard and hair, and as always had a great time picking through my fabrics to find the right pieces.  Their faces and the feather embellishments are painted with acrylics and they hang from fishing line.  I have a few other patterns from Magic Threads that I'm excited to try - cute stuff!
Thanks for taking the time to look! Cheesy

129  Gooble! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: June 03, 2009 12:20:10 PM
A friend's daughter requested this one for her almost two year old daughter.  He is a lesser known Yo Gabba Gabba character, but she is intrigued by the fact that he's always sad.  Maybe she'll be able to make this one feel better.  Wink

He's made of soft velour and really - you can't get much simpler than this! Cheesy

130  Big Black Bear in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: May 24, 2009 08:12:25 AM
I made two of these a while ago - one to sit on my brother's couch in Vermont and one for my grandson.  Friday I made a bright pink one for my granddaughter's 5th birthday. Pink fur, white muzzle & pink heart ears and paw pads.(Of course I waited til the last minute and was up til 2 AM finishing it up!) - no pictures of it yet although I think some were taken at the party.  I have to say - I like the black ones best of all.  Smiley  (Not a great picture - but you get the idea?)
