1  Holy Mackerel!! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: May 19, 2013 06:56:59 PM
This is quite possibly not the right place for this - but close enough I think!  Smiley
I've been playing around with the idea of making a stringer of fish- in fabric - ever since I saw some carved out of wood on Etsy.  I loved the idea of having them hang on the wall somewhere, so I devised my own plan.  These are made of canvas - gessoed and then painted with acrylics and textile medium.  The paint is kind of shimmery and I intentionally frayed the edges on the tails and fins - just cause it kinda gave them a look I was going for.
All done - I gave them hooks and strung them up - ready to hang.  Smiley

2  Re: Completely Ghastly Edward Gorey Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 14, 2013 12:44:29 PM
I received an incredible package from erica_tattoos yesterday!!  It started out with a Gorey-rrific note complete with rhyming alphabetical silliness!  So fun!  First out of the box was The Wanton from "The Fatal Lozenge".  Spot on Erica!!  For those that are unfamiliar, the passage that goes with the illustration is: The Wanton though she knows the dangers. Must needs smear kohl about her eyes, And wake the interest of strangers, With long-drawn, hoarse, erotic sighs.

Next comes the "Black Doll" - totally, inexplicably creepy.  Erica added a bell because she said,"He told me he needed it".  MUAH-HA-HA-HA-HAAA!

And last but certainly not least - this bracelet with the man himself along with several Gorey-esque charms!  Check out this ingeniously improvised Doubtful Guest!

Thank you so much erica_tattoos!!  It's all wonderful!!

3  The Gashlycrumb Reaper in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 03, 2013 09:02:55 PM
I participated in the Edward Gorey swap, and made this for my partner.  The Gashlycrumb Tinies (for those not familiar) recounts the tragic demise of 26 children (in alphabetical order.)  The cover of that book is a classic Gorey illustration - the reaper surrounded by the kids.
AAAAAANYWAY... here he is - about 16" tall, fabric and sculpey.  His umbrella is stiffened fabric and he has a loop on his back so he can hang on the wall.  Smiley

4  Re: Anything Goes Tiny House Swap, rd. 2 Gallery in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by thisbirdsabsurd on: March 06, 2013 09:00:58 PM
Okay all you teag fans - check out this fantastic little house I received today!  Way too cute for words - I hope my photos do it justice!!  Thanks so much teag - I love it!

The flash was a little bright - in case you can't tell, that's a little tea cup over the Mad Hatter's door!  Wink  (And a couple little birds sitting out back!)

5  Big Ol' Stump Pillow in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by thisbirdsabsurd on: October 19, 2012 11:11:05 AM
-After finding that my log pillows seemed to be in demand I thought I might try my hand at something a little different.  I figured maybe this one lends itself more to propping yourself up after a long day at the saw mill.  Wink  It's pretty chunky - about 12" across, 15" or so high.  Maybe not for everyone's home decor...but I think it's kinda fun.  Smiley

6  Halloween Owl in Halloween Decor and Parties by thisbirdsabsurd on: October 10, 2012 10:55:49 AM
-I made this for the Vintage Halloween swap, inspired by some smaller vintage owls.  He's about 12" high, made of fabric and covered in (gulp) glitter.  The eyes were an accidental find, but I can't imagine any other use for those buttons than owl eyes!

and here's another view (borrowed from rackycoo!)  Smiley

7  Re: Vintage/Retro Halloween Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: October 04, 2012 11:06:10 AM
Okay - here we go!  My most awesome package from racky!!!
First - even if you already saw her post - is this ever so adorable little trick-or-treater!  I hear his name is Benjamin and how much do you love his little glasses??

See the little pencil propping him up?  Genius!
Next is this spooky shrine - I love opening up doors with surprises behind them - and how cool is that spider web door??

And then finally - this fantastic crow - all ready to party down on Halloween!  I love his little pedestal!

Thank you so much racky - this was so much fun!!!  (P.S. - yours is all done - just giving it a little dry time!)  Smiley

8  Re: Wicked Children Altered Tin Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: September 04, 2012 04:38:08 PM
Okay everyone - be verrrrrry quiet.  By no means do we want to wake this wicked child - it's best to let sleeping Medusas lie.
This horrid little baby grew too big for her little tin and had to be moved into a larger tin.  Look at her sweet little pillow and covers - so unassuming - but those baby snakes hint at something more sinister...
Thank you so much Killam creative - she's horrible!  (In the best way possible.)  Wink

9  The Grand High Witch in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by thisbirdsabsurd on: August 29, 2012 08:08:11 PM
-as a child that is. As part of the Wicked Child tin Swap my partner picked "The Grand High Witch" from "the Witches" by Roahld Dahl.  Now everyone KNOWS that real witches are bald - so of course my child had to be bald!  The number 86 (at the top and on the bottle) refer to Formula 86, which turns people into mice.

This is a quote from the book

And a good look at the frozen Charlotte head I found - pretty darn creepy if you ask me!

This was just too much fun!!

10  Re: Put a Bird On It! Swap - Send out Friday July 27th in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: August 09, 2012 05:00:23 PM
Hooray!  Hooray!  My package from camelama has arrived!!  It was full of goodies so I'll start off with the extras - including a couple of things from Archie McPhee, which just happens to be one of my favorite quirky stores!!

Next we have this fabulous reusable grocery bag!  Love this fabric!

None of you can possibly appreciate this next thing - sachets filled with organic lavender that camelama picked herself!   Mmmm-mmmm!

Check out this silly little chicken pouch!  And have you ever seen cuter fabric than this lining???

How about this t-shirt? I am SO wearing this tomorrow!!

And last but not least, a cute little bird toy - my cockatoo took an interest in it before I even had a chance to hang it up!!

Thank you so much camelama!  This was a lot of fun! Cheesy
