1  How to Train your Dragon 2 headed dragon cake in Dessert by Maimee on: May 11, 2010 06:19:55 PM
My son was turning 6 and long story short he has autism. For years birthdays have been torture when he was 5 he decided they were okay, but still tolerated it didn't get all into it like most kids do. When he turned 6 this year he was AAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL about the birthday. He was very very specific that he wanted a "blue 2 headed 2 tailed zippleback dragon cake" from How to Train your dragon. Birthdays have never been fun so when he asked I jumped. The cake was almost 5 feet long. When we lit the candles the paper caught on fire. It was awesome. He loooooooved it. Here's a few pics but you can see the process here http://archibaldfive.com/?p=1236

Oh and my boys are all gluten free/casein free so the heads of the dragon were GFCF and the body was normal cake. The hungry hoard of kids slaughtered the cake in about 10 minutes including the rice krispy treat appendages. It was a HUGE hit.

2  My sons Anakin #3 costume in Halloween Costumes by Maimee on: October 19, 2007 07:43:05 AM
My son said he really wanted to be Anakin from Star Wars #3. He brought me all his toys and had his dad show me pictures for reference. We saw a costume at Target for $60 and I just couldn't pay that. So here's what I came up with for him. It cost me a little less than $10 and took 4 hours from start to finish -- that included sketching a pattern and cutting everything out. My son is THRILLED. A glove and outer belt are in the works but not sure exactly how to do the belt at the moment.

3  Star Wars **Death Star Pinata** in Party Planning by Maimee on: July 26, 2007 11:23:51 AM
My son was turning 6 and was not liking the cheap Darth Vader pinata at the party store and told me what he really wanted was a Death Star pinata. He was soooo cute describing it and how it would blow up and candy would fly everywhere that I couldn't resist.

This was my first time making a pinata. I've paper mached once before. Made a volcano that time that all the boys in the neighborhood exploded for quite some time.

I did about 8 layers of newspaper with flour/water and then smoothed on 1 layer of silver tissue paper. I just drew the lines on with sharpie and used green pipecleaners for the laser... The kids all took turns and finally it broke -- we had 30 kids at the party so it was one TOUGH pinata!!!

4  Halloween Hat/Costume : Star Wars **UPDATED** in Halloween Costumes by Maimee on: October 02, 2005 10:19:21 AM
**UPDATE*** I restored the pics to this, realize they weren't working anymore. Anyway this hat turned out to be a big hit, and I was asked to make an adult version. I attached a picture of me modeling the adult one. I wired the ears in the adult version so they'd stay up. Anyway we got lots of awesome feedback here (thanks!) and out at the Halloween functions we took our kiddos to. :0)

*********************************

I made this up last night for my youngest babe, he's almost 5 months, and is going to be Yoda for Halloween. I am in the process of making his robes to wear with it.

Considered felting the wool up some to make it more solid and fuzzy and fit a bit more snug but can't decide...

Either way my husband thinks this is the best thing ever...  Cheesy
