51  Re: Ongoing Fabric Swap in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by onetomatotwo on: April 17, 2006 09:28:01 AM
Okay! I'll take:

2. Bright floral cotton FQ
6. Andover red dots on pink, cotton FQ

List in a mo...
Here's my list:

All of these fabrics  are 100% cotton. Varying quality -- I've tried to note this in the descriptions.

1. Black and white cow print. Not the highest quality cotton (kinda thin). Quarter shows scale. 1/2 yd or FQ
2. Aqua stamp print. High quality cotton. Same pattern as #4, but in turquoise. High quality cotton. 1/2 yd or FQ
3. Little guitars/ukes on cream background. Another thinner cotton. Guitars are about 1.25 long. 1/2 yd or FQ
4. Pink stamp print. High quality cotton. Same print as #2, in hot pink. 1/2 yd or FQ

Lets Garden!
5. Veggies pattern by Debbie Mumm. Veggies included are: carrots, sugar snap peas, squash, sweet corn, cabbage and tomatoes. High quality cotton. Each rectangle (seed pack, I guess) is 5x7. 1/2 yd or FQ
6. Herb garden. Rosemary, thyme, lavender and chives. Each square o herb is about 6 x 6. You can't see it too well in this photo, but the names of the herbs are written in cursive around the pictures of them. Also, those little dark spots on the brownish squares are cute little bugs (printed on the fabric, not actual bugs). This fabric is kind of thin. 1/2 yd or FQ
7. Gardening tools. Matches the Herb garden fabric -- same colors and quality. Trowels, wheelbarrows, watering cans, etc. 1/2 yd or FQ

Merry Christmas!
8. Christmas trees, bells, snowmen on cream. "Joann Fabrics" quality. FQ only.
9. Snowmen on red. The snowmen are about 3/4 tall each. "Joann Fabrics" quality. FQ only.
10. Folksy Christmas trees, angels, and stars on cream. "Joann Fabrics" quality. FQ only.
11. Santa on green. Santa is shown in a heart, as well as skiing. The heart santa is about 4 tall. "Joann Fabrics" quality. FQ only.

All right! I'm posting 3 times in a row! Aren't I just the Attention Whore around here?

Oh, well. As promised, here is a photo of the cute earrings I got from my FOC:

This photo isn't very good, unfortunately. I have a hard time taking photos of small objects. But trust me when I tell you -- they're very cute! And note their cute little names -- the pink ones are called Pretty Princess Pink (with a backwards "k" in "Pink") and the green ones are called, "Lay with me in the grassy field green."

Thanks, FOC!

53  Re: Cabled hand bag in Knitting: Completed Projects by onetomatotwo on: March 29, 2006 02:22:10 PM
I ended up making one of these for the FOC swap... sorry for the cross-posting, but I had hammered this board with questions about the handles a few pages back, so I wanted to post my finished product:

And here's the interior. This was my first experiment w/ hand-sewing a lining. I also put two magnets inside the lining to sort of keep things together. For bag-making, I usually use ultra-strong magnet closures, but they were too aggressive for a knit bag, so I just put two magnets inside and that worked rather nicely.

I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Super Chunky -- it feels fantastic!

As for what I ended up doing for the dowels, I got some 5/8" ones and cut them down. Then I used a hand-sander to round the corners. It worked out pretty well, I think.

I received my final package from seaofstars yesterday! Sorry I didn't post last night, but I've been having a bear of a time getting a good shot of this bag -- black fabric = hard for me to photograph (I'm not the most skilled photographer... obviously). Seaofstars, if you have better photos, please post 'em!

I asked for a tote bag for carrying groceries... preferably, with a skull applique on it. And that's what I got!

Here's the (not so great) photo of the bag:

And here's a close up of the applique!

Thanks so much for everything! Your thank you note will be in the mail tomorrow!

55  Re: foc swap reveal in The Swap Gallery by onetomatotwo on: March 08, 2006 01:26:27 PM
All right! Since I've been revealed, I'll go ahead and post a re-cap of everything I sent to k8tykat.

First package, I sent these felt flowers pins. They're about 3" wide. I knitted them and fulled them -- first time I've made flowers that way, and I think they came out pretty nice.

Second package was the cabled handbag. I actually did some question posting over on the very long cabled handbag post, so I was worried that someone would post-stalk me over there and put two and two together, but I needed info about making the handles. This is my first attempt at cables and I think it went rather well:

I'm also rather proud of the lining. This was my first time hand sewing a lining into a bag:

And I sent her an extra spool of ribbon that's striped because the inspiration picture that she sent me had a striped ribbon on the bag. It matches the bag slightly better than it appears in this photo.

Even if she doesn't use it for the bag, it's blue and brown, which is her favorite color combination, so I figured she'd find something crafty to do with it.

For the third send out, I made her the bag that gave me away -- I've made these bags for some other swaps and they've been posted on craftster, so I knew this would be the "Here I am!" craft for those playing the Home Game:

For the final sendout, I bought her a retro-looking tealight holder that I think (I hope!) matches her style. Sounds like it's found a good home in her children's bathroom, which is great.

I'm so glad you liked the stuff, k8tykat -- I was nervous! I enjoyed crafting for you and I'm glad the packages were a bright spot during a difficult time.

Whew! I finally received from Urvi today! Her package had everyone in my office talking: "You've got some package at reception... it's like, cloth or something... I think it's from one of your crafty friends..." And it was! From India! How cool am I?

She sent me this really great bag (with a zippered pocket inside -- how great is she?) with an awesome painting on the front -- looks like tattoo flash with my name on it! The painting is really beautiful -- nice job, Urvi. This bag will be great for toting stuff around (knitting, groceries, etc). I can always use plenty of totes like that.

Here's a shot of the whole bag:

And here's a close up shot of the amazing painting:

Along with my bag, I got some heart-themed goodies:

From the top, going clock-wise, is a painted box, a plastic hook, a compact w/ lip glosses in it, a key chain, earrings, and a little collection of tiny candles and incense burner+incense. Urvi -- did you make the earrings?

I think that this package took about 3 weeks to get here! Wow!

Okay... sorry to keep everyone waiting. You'll see in a moment how I got distracted from my Battery Hunt last night. In the meantime, here's the great stuff my FOC sent me:

To the left are kits for making fabric flowers. Right below that is the cool Paris-y tape measure. Then there's the coffee cream-filled chocolate (mmmm), beautiful fabrics (They're awesome! I can't decide what I'm going to do with them yet!), and some yarn that is absolutely perfect for me.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the yarn is orange and brown and pink. The reason it's perfect for me is that I'm a huge Cleveland Browns fan (that's football, for you non-sports fans) and the team colors are brown and orange. Awesome!

Meanwhile, here's how I got distracted yesterday night and didn't post photos... I got to looking at those little pin kits and thought, "Hmm... I have a shirt that matches this pin... if I make this tonight, I can wear it tomorrow..." So, yep! I got distracted from Craftster with crafting! Yay! Without further ado, here's my new pin:

I made a slight modification on the kit. It came with some white beads that I was supposed to string in the middle. Two things:
1. I didn't like the beads, and
2. I didn't want to hand sew anything.

Sooo... I used a technique that I learned from seaofstars (what an amazing craftster!) in a tutorial here for machine applique and I appliqued the center.

I really like how it came out and I'm wearing it today! Thanks, FOC. And, um, thanks, seaofstars! (Hee hee...)

Urvi finally recieved from me this weekend (she's in India, I'm in the States... slooow) and she asked me to post photos, since her camera is down.

First up, we have a zebra print bag w/ an appliqued heart on the front. I didn't make two -- the second one is just to show the interior of the bag. In the lower corner, you can see a round tin that I decorated w/ heart paper. Inside of that tin are some heart-y 1" buttons in assorted colors.

Next up, we have a knitted pouch. Again, two shots of it, one to show the exterior and the other to show the lining. I've never lined a knitted bag before, so I'm very proud of it. I've actually never knit a pouch before, so this was an adventure for me. The size is 3"x5", per Urvi's request, and has a heart-shaped button closure.

I also made her some heart-themed note cards, using stencils, paper, and some cute heart stickers. I think they look better in person than this photo shows, but here they are:

And then... I bought her some stuff. First, some felt squares, since I could tell from post-stalking that she loves felt and has a hard time getting it in India. The three on the right are actually sparkly felt. Oooo... sparkly!

And then I loaded up on Valentine's Day goodies... except for the Scrabble stickers, which are not heart related, but I also found her lusting for in another post. So there's... some pre-cut felt hearts, heart pencils, heart erasers, some heart-shaped chocolate (in the red bag) and... not to be outdone by my fellow Target-lovers, that's a little heart-shaped clip I got at the One Spot.

Whew! Glad you liked the package, Urvi. Now I can't wait for mine to finally arrive!

As Nessa mentioned, I did receive yesterday -- I got an awesome package from my Secret FOC. She was worried that this bag would be too small, but it's perfect for me -- plenty big to hold my stuff. And it's adorable. She says it's her first time stencilling, but I can't believe it -- it looks great!

You can also see a cute little Eiffel Tower pin pinned to the board next to the purse -- it's adorable! (Even though you can't tell in this photo).

I can see that Mysterious Craftster Photo Shrinking is not doing the bag or stencil justice, but it's perfect in person. Trust me. The fabrics that she chose to go with the buttons are really cool. In her note, she said the colors were inspired by the movie, and I think she really hit it. Plus, it's got a pocket inside!

For the Paris-themed bathroom, she sent me this lovely box. Again, claiming that she's never decoupaged before... I can't believe it! It looks great! You can't see it too well from the photo, but all of the text is in French. She said in her note that the text was taken from an old French textbook. I love that idea! Thanks for the inspiration there!

Meanwhile, I do have some sad news to report... when I got the box, the tape along the bottom had been split and the box was open. At first, it looked like the contents were all there, but then I read her note... she mentioned including some postcards that she got in Paris... and they weren't in there. I was heart-broken... but then, I realized that it's a good reason to go back to Paris!

Thanks, Secret FOC! I have no idea who you are!

60  Fabric Junkie Swap in The Swap Gallery by onetomatotwo on: February 10, 2006 12:19:19 PM
The fabric's a-flyin'! Here's the gallery for posting the awesome fabric-y goodness everyone got.

Original thread here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=76519.0

I'll get this party started w/ my photos:

From aeronberry, I got some beautiful cotton fabric...one yard of the background and 1/2 yd of the purple. I think I am going to immediately make these into a purse! Thank you! They're lovely!

And from raindrops, I got this wonderful chiffon-y, rayon-y, drape-y piece of fabric that caused me to run through the house, floating it behind me singing, "I feel pretty! Oh so pretty!" Now I have to *make* it into something. She sent 2 yds (wow!) So perhaps a skirt!

She also sent me a bonus piece... will wonders never cease? This looks like a nice standard toile, but (hold onto your hats here), it's actually super-soft flannel!! This 1yd piece might become a backing for a baby quilt. It's sooo soft.

Thanks so much for the great fabric! This is fun!
