1  CANADA / Alberta / Calgary Weekend Market? on: March 23, 2011 03:25:14 PM
Has anyone been a vendor at one of these markets?
They "float" among 7 different community centres around town.
I wrote to them days ago, but no response -which makes me think the management might..uhhh..not be so great, if they don't answer emails even when actively seeking vendors!!

But I'll try to be patient... anyone have any experience with them??
2  CANADA / Alberta / biggest, best craft fair in Calgary? on: August 04, 2009 04:51:35 PM
HI everyone!

I have done a lot of craft fairs in the Calgary in the past 3 years , even one in Edmonton!
It might seem odd, but I have found that the best attendance has been at the large church sponsored events.

How about you? Anyone have a large church one to tell about?  I like Harvest Hills - but if you know of another one as good as that - give it up! lol
3  CANADA / Alberta / Looking for someone making handmade soaps in Calgary! on: October 26, 2008 12:46:21 PM
I make beeswax candles, and I think handmade soap would be a good companion product.

I'd like to share a table/booth with someone at the Crossroads Weekend Market.
We can split the expense, but most importantly, the time required to man the booth.

If interested - please email me at naturelites@hotmail.com

thanks!

4  CANADA / Alberta / How do ebay and etsy compare? on: October 03, 2008 11:26:00 AM
Considering selling on one or the other...

How do these compare, both to each other and to a website of your own?

I am interested to hear about any of your experiences with ost, fees, convenience...

thanks!

All I know about Mrl. show is that I spoke with them last year, and they flat out told me it was in the mall. Maybe it is a diferent show....

anyway - having trouble getting response from the Winter Club people. Never heard of the Millarville show, but I looked it up, and it is scheduled over 3 days. I'm not sure I am willing to drive that far for 3 days....maybe something closer would be better.

I love the idea of doing one of the farmer's market or Crossroads weekends, but it is a helluva long day.... I'd like to find someone who makes a compatible product - handmade soap, maybe? - and split a booth with them.

I tried posting to look for someone on another board, but the admin deleted it - said you can only advertise fairs there....

I have a domain name reserved..will probably get a website going over the next couple of months.

I'd love to see yours, tho!

Thanks for the response!!

I did about 8 shows last year. Using your scale...the bad ones were about 4 or 5 times the booth fee, and the best one was over 13x the booth fee.

It is hard for me to set aside an entire day, (and my bf's day too, since he helps), for only $200-$300. But for $1000, yeah, I'll do it!

I went to one of the fairs you mentioned last year as a good one....only ELEVEN people came through the doors the whole day.  All the vendors signed a petition wanting our money back, which of course, they refused.  I don't want to slam anyone, but I want to avoid a day like that this year.

I am still considering Marlborogh.....not sure if a "mall" setting is right for my stuff.  I make 100% pure Alberta beeswax candles - custom molds, and not cheap, so....I guess I think the typical mall shopper is not looking for a $20 candle, but....you never know.

I am doing Harvest Hills for the first time this year - it has a great rep.

I guess I'd just rather do 2 or 3 shows with big sales, than 8 or 9 for less money per show, but the same overall.

Ever hear anything about the Calgary Winter Club show?

Hi, I am new to the board - it looks very good.
Last year was my first doing craft fairs in Calgary some were great - some were a total bust.

So let's get down to it - I'd love to hear your opinions of specific fairs/sales.

For starters - Arbor Lake  - too small, too many "avon" type vendors - total waste of time.
On the other hand - Ft Calgary is amazing! Wel attended, beautiful facility, great sales.

anyone else??
Would esp love to hear about the winter club sale, or others with a good rep.

thanks!
