1401  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Adalbert, my first sock monster on: September 26, 2008 10:57:11 AM
I have that book too!! They are quite addictive. I've made quite a few and I'm always buying socks yet never have any to put on my feet. I've made sock monkeys for years...so this was a fun change. I don't have any pictures right now....but I'm about to make a bunch more for a charity craft sale at the hospital I work in.

My cat even has her own that I made from one sock and left featureless. (No buttons to come off and be swallowed.)
1402  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Re: Ram w/Gas Mask Stencil *first post!* on: September 14, 2008 08:56:59 AM
Man. I'd never ever be able to do that. I remeber trying to make a stencil once....just a small one for a t-shirt logo....and it completely fell apart. Since then I've moved on to silk-screening so I can just draw on a transparency and use a photo-emulsion to transfer the image. Unfortunately that's a lot more expensive than freezer paper.

Those are great! I'm impressed at your stencil-cutting abilities.
1404  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: Apparently I'm not a quilter on: September 14, 2008 08:49:27 AM
It's your first try so don't worry. Really it's kinda cute. And I think the fabrics match (read: coordinate) beautifully. My first was a single bed size patchwork thing of the tied variety. It turned out great because I kept it simple. (My second was a quilted skirt made of paper....my sewing machine still hates me). If I were to quilt again I think I'd stick to another simple look, but perhaps try quilting instead of tying, however I have limited work surfaces. My first quilt was cut and assembled on my landlady's floor and sewed at my computer desk.

Definatly keeping cuts neat and well measured is impotant, as is seam allowance. As for matching....I've found a great way around that is fat-quarters. They tend to come pre-matched as it were.

Keep at it though.....and finish it so that you remeber that first attempt. Keep it with you on you next profects and you'll be able to look back and see how you've improved.

Yeah....I hate to say it but that's pretty ugly. The inspiration purse is really adorable. I'd definatly be leaving some bad feedback.

Any chance on sharing the pattern? Pretty please, with sugar on top? Kiss

Oh! I agree! I love the Squid! Squids and Octopi are my favorite animals.....

The whale is totally cute. Who needs fins....really?
