31  Re: Magnet Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spicytaco on: May 10, 2009 06:01:24 PM
Here are the two lovely magnets I've received.

First from or lovely organizer audio-astrophysics. She decided to not choose one of my selected themes and instead stalked me and found out I love the Mad Hatter. (Or it was just a really lucky guess.) I think this magnet is just the tops.

And next is a very lovely and cute octopus from Lunakitten. As many of you may now I adore octopi. I just love this magnet, it's so so cute.

My fridge is getting full and I love it.

Alright, so I've been a bit of a bad partner and am behind on posting pics. I've received four wonderful sets so far.

From whoami7891. I really like the old mans face. The little rocket ship had fallen off one unfortunately.:

From sonjabegonia. I just think these are so pretty.:

From lindyv321. This was the first set I received. I like the mushroom and the penny fortune card. I actually have a few of them that I bought for cause I thought they were cool, so it was really neat getting an inchie with one on it.

And last but not least, from Pinky yarn. Gotta love sheep dogs that go baa and pinup girls. (Please ignore the hair that seems to have fallen across the camera lens.):

Alright....here are the dotees I made and sent. Should be safe now, I think they've all been received.

Not the greatest picture ever. The charm hanging from the plaid one is a little pack of gum.

34  Paper Mache Pacaderm in Completed Projects by spicytaco on: April 13, 2009 06:33:41 AM
Little bit of a story here... Mr. Taco's birthday was approaching and he told me he wanted something artsy. I craft for everyone it seems, except him, so I think he was feeling a tad left out. Not long after him telling me this I was watching a show on television. In it the main characters brother is an artist, and he had made a silver elephant head (I think it had a yo-yo hanging from the trunk). Mr. Taco saw it and said it was cool. So...I made him a silver elephant head out of paper mache.

It's hanging above his computer so he always has to look at it. Mwahaha. Now...it didn't turn out exactly as planned. You could see the lines of the paper a lot more than I expected when I painted it. (It doesn't show that much in the pictures.) If anyone has a tip for me there....you rock.

And just for kicks, some construction pics.
Raw Materials. I used chicken fencing and masking tape for the frame. For the glue I went with watered down white glue. Strong, flexible, and not appetizing to insects.

Skeleton (I added on cardboard ears later):

Thanks for looking. Questions and comments welcomed.

35  Re: Jar of Whimsies 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spicytaco on: April 09, 2009 05:01:17 PM
Alright....picked up my package today. Had to beg Mr. Taco to take me, then when we got there it had just closed. I was totally bummed, so stood at the door pouting until the guy working let me in and gave me my package. (Very sweet of him.)

Now....kevsbabe told me I was getting a large package.....but this thing was huge! I think the label said 8 lbs. It barely fit in the front seat of the car with me where I began to tear into it.

So here's a whole slew of pictures that do not do this 'jar' justice at all.

First the 'jar':

Some of the smaller contents:

Present for my kitties:

Some of my favs. Buttons. I love these. Two are from Expos. ('84 and '85) Ernest! I love the Ernest movies. My aunt was even in one....the one with the big cannon. And I used to have the 'stop acid rain' one when I was a kid. Might still have it somewhere. (These are going on my numerous tote bags.)

Candy (Including the biggest box of nerds I've ever seen. Someone read my profile...)

I'd asked for magnets. Kevsbabe actually had my avatar made into magnets:

Some more bits and bobs:

And me wearing the wicked cool hat that came in my package:

Okay...and that's not even everything! I can't thank you enough kevsbabe. I'm just blown away by the fact that you'd put so much into being my angel! Thanks!

Alright....so I've been kinda a bad swap partner. I've had these for a while and am only now posting pics.

You've already seen this one from astormorray. (He's wearing his little woven shawl here):

And this lovely dotee is from pocketwatch:

Close up of facial details:

I'd like to thank you both for these awesome dolls.

Now...I didn't find shipping too bad at all. Only cost about $2 CND to ship from Canada to the States.  And they got to there places quite quickly.

37  Crocodile for a nefew I've never met. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spicytaco on: February 06, 2009 03:42:46 PM
Alright....so I've never met any of Mr. Taco's family except his mom. (We're not techinically married, but have been living together for well over a year.) This christmas I decided to make his nefew something. I knew that he likes beluga whales and crocodiles.....so I made a crocodile.

I made my own pattern and used this really cool faux fur that's two colours of green in a sort of little square pattern. I looks like scales. Then I had some yellow/gold fleece that had a sort of grid patten that I used for the tummy. Some big red child safe eyes are ta da. He's about 3 feet long I think.

Full on:

Tummy

In his box ready to ship with Nacho looking on:

Thanks for looking.

38  From ugly clock to skully time piece. in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by spicytaco on: February 03, 2009 02:56:11 PM
So my boyfriend went to throw the garbage down the shoot, and when he came back he had this ghastly clock that he'd found in the garbage room. It was bad. (I should have gotten a picture.) Dark wood finish that just looked dirty, blue face with a moon medallion in the middle. I stared at it forever, trying to figure out some way to make it nice.

Along comes the skull swap, and a lightbulb goes off. I took it apart, sanded, painted, covered the back with paper, added a couple of stickers and voila, a swap worthy clock.

39  Re: THE GREAT SKULL SWAP R2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by spicytaco on: February 02, 2009 04:31:17 PM
Here we go. My wonderful package from thepainfultruth.

A totally cute winged skeleton plushy and a skeleton troll doll. I love how the blue hair and blue wings match. They live on top of my tv with my zombies and Herman (my skull).

Earrings, a ruler bracelet that I think is to me used as a pin cushion, and a cute little bag.

Close up of the earrings. So cute.

Close up of the bracelet.

Cute little coin purse that holds my subway tokens.

And finally......the most amazing thing ever knitted:

A skull purse. I don't think I can even explain how much I love this. I can't even imagine how much work it was. I can't knit at all so this is just wicked. And it's so soft. And the handles are the same fabric as the coin purse. (They're lined with the same fabric too.

This was my first swap and it was soooooo amazing. I've just had so much fun and the stuff I got was so good.

Thanks so much thepainfultruth!!!

(Sorry I got a little pic happy I just didn't wanna leave anything out.

40  Eeekers E. Rainbowpants in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by spicytaco on: November 16, 2008 06:38:43 AM
This guy was inspired by two things: Domo-kun and the flying tofu/cubies that lurk around here. He's made out of scrap fabric from my mum. He's possibly the most cuddly thing I've made.

For size reference he's sitting in my favorite arm chair.
